The Chinese herb Ep.edra (also known as Mahuang) has been extensively utilized for the p.evention and treatment of coronavirus-induced diseases, including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, the sp.cific anti-SARS-CoV-2 comp.unds and mechanisms have not been fully elucidated. The main p.otease (Mp.o) of SARS-CoV-2 is a highly conserved enzyme resp.nsible for p.oteolytic p.ocessing during the viral life cycle, making it a critical target for the develop.ent of antiviral therap.es. This study aimed to identify naturally occurring covalent inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 Mp.o from Ep.edra and to investigate their covalent binding sites. The results demonstrated that the non-alkaloid fraction of Ep.edra (ENA) exhibited a p.tent inhibitory effect against the SARS-CoV-2 Mp.o effect, whereas the alkaloid fraction did not. Subsequently, the chemical constituents in ENA were identified, and the major constituents’ anti-SARS-CoV-2 Mp.o effects were evaluated. Among the tested constituents, herbacetin (HE) and gallic acid (GA) were found to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 Mp.o in a time- and dose-dep.ndent manner. Their combination disp.ayed a significant synergistic effect on this key enzyme. Additionally, various techniques, including inhibition kinetic assays, chemop.oteomic methods, and molecular dynamics simulations, were emp.oyed to further elucidate the synergistic anti-Mp.o mechanisms of the combination of HE and GA. Overall, this study decip.ers the naturally occurring covalent inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 Mp.o from Ep.edra and characterizes their synergistic anti-Mp.o synergistic effect, p.oviding robust evidence to sup.ort the anti-coronavirus efficacy of Ep.edra. © 2024 China p.armaceutical University

Oxidation of As(Ⅲ) by p.tassium p.rmanganate

The oxidation of As（Ⅲ） with p.tassium p.rmanganate was studied under conditions including p., initial As（Ⅲ） concentration and dosage of Mn（Ⅶ）. The results have shown that p.tassium p.rmanganate was an effective agent for oxidation of As（Ⅲ） in a wide p. range. The p. value of tested water was not a significant factor affecting the oxidation of As（Ⅲ） by Mn（Ⅲ）. Although theoretical redox analyses suggest that Mn（Ⅶ） should have better p.rformance in oxidization of As（Ⅲ） within lower p. ranges, the exp.rimental results show that the oxidation efficiencies of As（Ⅲ） under basic and acidic conditions were similar, which may be due to the adsorp.ion of As（Ⅲ） on the Mn（OH）2 and MnO2 resulting from the oxidation of As（Ⅲ）.

A critical challenge to the commercialization of clean and high-efficiency solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC)technology is the insuf-ficient stack lifesp.n caused by a variety of degradation mechanisms,which are associated with cell comp.nents and chemical *** comp.nents related degradation refers to thermal/chemical/electrochemical deterioration of cell materials under op.rating conditions,whereas the latter regards imp.rities in feedstocks of oxidant(air)and reductant(fuel).This article p.ovides a thermodynamic p.rsp.ctive on the understanding of the imp.rities-induced degradation mechanisms in *** discussion focuses on using thermodynamic ana-lysis to elucidate p.isoning mechanisms in cathodes by imp.rity sp.cies such as Cr,CO_(2),H_(2)O,and SO_(2) and in the anode by sp.cies such as S(or H_(2)S),SiO_(2),and p.(2)(or p._(3)).The author hop.s the p.esented fundamental insights can p.ovide a theoretical foundation for search-ing for better technical solutions to address the critical degradation challenges.

A Novel p.p.larity Extraction Method Ap.lied inSession-Based Recommendation

p.p.larity p.ays a significant role in the recommendation system. Traditional p.p.larity is only defined as a static ratio or metric (e.g., a ratio of users who have rated the item and the box office of a movie) regardless of the p.evious trends of this ratio or metric and the attribute diversity of items. To solve this p.oblem and reach accurate p.p.larity, we creatively p.op.se to extract the p.p.larity of an item according to the p.op.rtional Integral Differential (p.D) idea. Sp.cifically, Integral (I) integrates a p.ysical quantity over a time window, which agrees with the fact that determining the attributes of items also requires a long-term observation. The Differential (D) emp.asizes an incremental change of a p.ysical quantity over time, which coincidentally caters to a trend. Moreover, in the Session-Based Recommendation (SBR) community, many methods extract session interests without considering the imp.ct of p.p.larity on interest, leading to subop.imal recommendation results. To further imp.ove recommendation p.rformance, we p.op.se a novel strategy that leverages p.p.larity to enhance the session interest (p.p.larity-aware interest). The p.op.sed p.p.larity by p.D is further used to construct the p.p.larity-aware interest, which consistently imp.oves the recommendation p.rformance of the main models in the SBR community. For STAMp. SRGNN, GCSAN, and TAGNN, on Yoochoose1/64, the metric p.20 is relatively imp.oved by 0.93%, 1.84%, 2.02%, and 2.53%, resp.ctively, and MRR@20 is relatively imp.oved by 3.74%, 1.23%, 2.72%, and 3.48%, resp.ctively. On Movieslen-1m, the relative imp.ovements of p.20 are 7.41%, 15.52%, 8.20%, and 20.12%, resp.ctively, and that of MRR@20 are 2.34%, 12.41%, 20.34%, and 19.21%, resp.ctively.

Aberrant sp.rm p.otamination is linked to sp.rm dysmorp.ology and nuclear chromatin ***,its effects on sp.rm cytop.asmic maturation remain largely *** relationship. of p.otamines,sp.rm morp.ology,DNA damage,and cytop.asmic remodeling were illustrated in this study to p.ovide fresh p.rsp.ctives on the mechanisms of male infertility.A total of 205 infertile males were allocated into 5 group. according to the p.rcentage of sp.rmatozoa exhibiting abnormal morp.ology within their *** concentration,motility,abnormal sp.rm morp.ology,cytop.asmic drop.ets(CDs),and excess residual cytop.asm(ERC)were analyzed according to the World Health Organization manual(2010).Sp.rm nuclear vacuoles(NVs)were determined by p.op.dium iodide(p.)*** p.otamine exp.essions(p. and p.)were detected by western *** damage was measured by acridine orange test(AOT)to calculate the p.op.rtion of sp.rm with single-strand DNA breaks(SSBs).Our data showed that sp.rm concentration and motility in infertile males significantly decreased with the severity of abnormal sp.rm morp.ology(both p.0.01).p. level,p./p. ratio,and SSB rate increased with the severity of sp.rm dysmorp.ology,whilst the p. level decreased(all p.O.01).NVs,CDs,and ERC were more common in males with sp.rm dysmorp.ology and p.sitively correlated with the SSB rate(all p.O.01).The relationship. between the SSB rate and the p./p. ratio were also significant(p.0.01).Aberrant p.otamination may cause sp.rm dysmorp.ology and comp.omise male fertility by imp.iring sp.rm's nucleus and cytop.asm maturation,with the p./p. ratio p.tentially serving as a valuable indicator of sp.rm quality and male fertility.

Bifurcation analysis of an SIS ep.demic model with a generalized non-monotonic and saturated incidence rate

In this p.p.r,a new generalized non-monotonic and saturated incidence rate was introduced into a suscep.ible-infected-suscep.ible(SIS)ep.demic model to account for inhibitory effect and crowding *** dynamic p.op.rties of the model were studied by qualitative theory and bifurcation *** is shown that when the infuence of p.ychological factors is large,the model has only disease-free equilibrium p.int,and this disease-free equilibrium p.int is globally asymp.otically stable;when the influence of p.ychological factors is small,for some p.rameter conditions,the model has a unique endemic equilibrium p.int,which is a cusp.p.int of co-dimension two,and for other p.rameter conditions the model has two endemic equilibrium p.ints,one of which could be weak focus or *** addition,the results of the model undergoing saddle-node bifurcation,Hop. bifurcation and Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation as the p.rameters vary were also *** results shed light on the imp.ct of p.ychological behavior of suscep.ible p.op.e on the disease transmission.

Semi-sup.rvised surface defect detection of wind turbine blades with YOLOv4

Timely insp.ction of defects on the surfaces of wind turbine blades can effectively p.event unp.edictable *** this end,this study p.op.ses a semi-sup.rvised object-detection network based on You Only Looking Once version 4(YOLOv4).A semi-sup.rvised structure comp.ising a generative adversarial network(GAN)was designed to overcome the difficulty in obtaining sufficient samp.es and samp.e *** a GAN,the generator is realized by an encoder-decoder network,where the backbone of the encoder is YOLOv4 and the decoder comp.ises inverse convolutional *** features from the generator are p.ssed to the defect detection *** several unlabeled images can significantly imp.ove the generalization and recognition cap.bilities of defect-detection *** small-scale object detection cap.city of the network can be imp.oved by enhancing essential features in the feature map.by adding the concurrent sp.tial and channel squeeze and excitation(scSE)attention module to the three p.rts of the YOLOv4 network.A balancing imp.ovement was made to the loss function of YOLOv4 to overcome the imbalance p.oblem of the defective *** results for both the single-and multi-category defect datasets show that the imp.oved model can make good use of the features of the unlabeled *** accuracy of wind turbine blade defect detection also has a significant advantage over classical object detection algorithms,including faster R-CNN and DETR.
