Seasonal differences in sources and formation processes of PM2.5 nitrate in an urban environment of North China

Nitrate(NO_(3)^(−))has been the dominant ion of secondary inorganic aerosols(SIAs)in PM_(2.5) in North *** the formation mechanisms and sources of particulate nitrate are vital to mitigate air *** this study,PM_(2.5) samples in winter(January 2020)and in summer(June 2020)were collected in Jiaozuo,China,andwater-soluble ions and(δ_(15)N,δ_(18)O)-NO_(3)^(−)were *** results showed that the increase of NO_(3)^(−)concentrations was the most remarkable with increasing PM_(2.5) pollution level.δ_(18)O-NO_(3)^(−)values for winter samples(82.7‰ to 103.9‰)were close to calculated δ_(18)O-HNO_(3)(103‰±0.8‰)values by N_(2)O_(5) pathway,while δ_(18)O-NO_(3)^(−)values(67.8‰ to 85.7‰)for summer samples were close to calculated δ_(18)O-HNO_(3) values(61‰±0.8‰)by OH oxidation pathway,suggesting that PM_(2.5) nitrate is largely from N_(2)O_(5) pathway inwinter,while is largely from OH pathway in *** fractional contributions of P_(N2O5+H2O) were 70% and 39% in winter and summer sampling periods,respectively,those of POH were 30% and 61%,*** δ_(15)N-NO_(3)−values for winter samples(3.0‰to 14.4‰)than those for summer samples(-3.7‰to 8.6‰)might be due to more contributions from coal combustion in *** combustion(31%±9%,25%±9%in winter and summer,respectively)and biomass burning(30%±12%,36%±12%in winter and summer,respectively)were the main sources using Bayesian mixing *** results provided clear evidence of particulate nitrate formation and sources under different PM_(2.5) levels,and aided in reducing atmospheric nitrate in urban environments.

The effect of micro-void on transverse stiffness and strength for fiber-reinforced composites subjected to load perpendicular to fiber is studied using the state-based peridynamic(PD)*** heterogeneous microstructure with micro-voids are discretized with irregular and non-uniform grids on *** PD representative volume element with randomly distributed and sized micro-voids has been established with periodic boundary conditions.A parametric study was performed to evaluate the effects of void fraction and void size on transverse *** was found that the transverse modulus decreases with the void fraction in the range of 0.5–2%.A smaller void has a greater impact on the transverse modulus than a larger void under the same void *** crack growth path for the multi-fiber model subjected to transverse tension was *** PD predictions show that cracks initiate at the interface between fiber and matrix,then deflect to the micro-voids *** PD predictions match well with the analytical and experimental observations available in the literature.

Development of two continuous hemocyte cell sublines in the Asian corn borer Ostrinia furnacalis and the identification of molecular markers for hemocytes

Granulocytes and plasmatocytes play important roles in clearing foreign objects in insects,but it is difficult to distinguish between them in immune *** on the hemocyte cell line SYSU-OfHe-C established at our lab,two cell sublines,SYSU-OfHe-C Granulocyte(Gr cells)and SYSU-OHe-C Plasmatocyte(PI cells),which possess the morphological characteristics of granulocytes and plasmatocytes,respectively,were *** and PI cells showed different behaviors in immune reactions,such as spreading,phagocytosis and *** cells were easier to spread,but Gr cells tended to undergo aggregation,indicating that they may take different strategies to clear foreign *** results also suggested that granulocytes and plasmatocytes may express some different *** comparing the gene expression in cells from the two sublines,1662 differentially expressed genes were identified,and 13 out of 30 transmembrane proteins highly ex pressed in PI cells(six)or Gr cells(seven)were further screened and confirmed by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(PCR).Finally,three transmembrane genes specifically expressed in Pl cells and two transmembrane genes specifically expressed in Gr cells were screened out based on their expressions in immune reactions by quantitative PCR *** genes may potentially be used as molecular markers to distinguish between granulocy tes and plasmatocytes in Ostrinia fiurnacalis,and further to clarify the functions of immune hemocytes in cellular immune reaction such as encapsulation and so on.

Objective:Cytogenetic abnormalities have been proven to be the most valuable parameter for risk stratification of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL).However,studies on the prevalence of cytogenetic abnormalities and their correlation to clinical features in Chinese pediatric patients are limited,especially large-scale ***:We collected the cytogenetics and clinical data of 1541 children newly diagnosed with ALL between 2001 and 2014 in four Chinese hospitals,and retrospectively analyzed their clinical features,prognosis and risk factors associated with pediatric ALL.

As an indispensable part of identity authentication,offline writer identification plays a notable role in biology,forensics,and historical document ***,identifying handwriting efficiently,stably,and quickly is still challenging due to the method of extracting and processing handwriting *** this paper,we propose an efficient system to identify writers through handwritten images,which integrates local and global features from similar handwritten *** local features are modeled by effective aggregate processing,and global features are extracted through transfer ***,the proposed system employs a pre-trained Residual Network to mine the relationship between large image sets and specific handwritten images,while the vector of locally aggregated descriptors with double power normalization is employed in aggregating local and global ***,handwritten image segmentation,preprocessing,enhancement,optimization of neural network architecture,and normalization for local and global features are exploited,significantly improving system *** proposed system is evaluated on Computer Vision Lab(CVL)datasets and the International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition(ICDAR)2013 *** results show that it represents good generalizability and achieves state-of-the-art ***,the system performs better when training complete handwriting patches with the normalization *** experimental result indicates that it’s significant to segment handwriting reasonably while dealing with handwriting overlap,which reduces visual burstiness.

Triassic deep-marine sedimentation in the western Qinling and Songpan terrane

Triassic sequences in both the western Qinling and Songpan terrane are composed mostly of deep-marine sediments. A detailed study was carried out on main sedimentary facies of Triassic successions, showing that they resulted from diverse sedimentary processes, such as submarine debris-flows, turbidity currents, bottom-flows, suspension fallout, and fluidized sediment flows. Debris-flows are dividable into two types, gravelly and sandy debris-flows, respectively, and the sandy debris-flow deposits make up considerable portion of the Triassic successions concerned. Turbidite is characterized by occurrence of normal grading, and the whole Bouma sequences, though widely developed, are not totally attributed to true turbidity currents. The non-graded Ta division is thought to originate from sandy debris flows, whereas the rest divisions result from low-density currents or from bottom-current modification if they contain sedimentary structures related to traction currents. Four types of facies associations are distinguished within Triassic deep-marine successions: massive and thick-bedded coarse-grained facies association, medium- and thick-bedded sandstone with interlayered fine-grained facies association, interlayered thin-bedded fine-grained facies association, and syn-sedimentary slump/breccia facies association. Spatial distribution of the different facies associations suggests that Lower Triassic sedimentation occurred primarily in continental slope, submarine channels, and base-of-slope aprons in the Hezuo-Jianzha region of the western Qinling, whereas the Middle Triassic consists mainly of sedimentary facies of base-of-slope aprons and submarine incised valleys. The counterparts in the Dangchang-Diebu region, in contrast, are characterized by platform carbonates. The shallow-marine carbonates evolved into deep-marine facies since the Ladinian, indicative of rapid drowning of the Carnian carbonate platform in Middle Triassic times. How functional programming mattered

In 1989 when functional programming was still considered a niche topic, hughes wrote a visionary paper arguing convincingly ‘why functional programming maters’. More than two decades have passed. Has functional programming really matered? Our answer is a resounding ‘Yes!’. Functional programming is now at the forefront of a new generation of programming technologies, and enjoying increasing popularity and inluence. In this paper, we review the impact of functional programming, focusing on how it has changed the way we may construct programs, the way we may verify programs, and fundamentally the way we may think about programs.

Covariate-adaptive designs with missing covariates in clinical trials

Many covariate-adaptive randomization procedures have been proposed and implemented to balance important covariates in clinical trials. These methods are usually based on fully observed covariates. In practice,the covariates of a patient are often partially missing. We propose a novel covariate-adaptive design to deal with missing covariates and study its properties. For the proposed design, we show that as the number of patients increases, the overall imbalance, observed margin imbalance and fully observed stratum imbalance are bounded in probability. Under certain covariate-dependent missing mechanism, the proposed design can balance missing covariates as if the covariates are observed. Finally, we explore our methods and theoretical findings through simulations.

Early identification of stroke through deep learning with multi-modal human speech and movement data

Early identification and treatment of stroke can greatly improve patient outcomes and quality of *** clinical tests such as the Cincinnati Pre-hospital Stroke Scale(CPSS)and the Face Arm Speech Test(FAST)are commonly used for stroke screening,accurate administration is dependent on specialized *** this study,we proposed a novel multimodal deep learning approach,based on the FAST,for assessing suspected stroke patients exhibiting symptoms such as limb weakness,facial paresis,and speech disorders in acute *** collected a dataset comprising videos and audio recordings of emergency room patients performing designated limb movements,facial expressions,and speech tests based on the *** compared the constructed deep learning model,which was designed to process multi-modal datasets,with six prior models that achieved good action classification performance,including the I3D,SlowFast,X3D,TPN,TimeSformer,and *** found that the findings of our deep learning model had a higher clinical value compared with the other ***,the multi-modal model outperformed its single-module variants,highlighting the benefit of utilizing multiple types of patient data,such as action videos and speech *** results indicate that a multi-modal deep learning model combined with the FAST could greatly improve the accuracy and sensitivity of early stroke identification of stroke,thus providing a practical and powerful tool for assessing stroke patients in an emergency clinical setting.

Revised damage evolution equation for high cycle fatigue life prediction of aluminum alloy LC4 under uniaxial loading

The fatigue life prediction for components is a difficult task since many factors can affect the final fatigue life. Based on the damage evolution equation of Lemaitre and Desmorat, a revised two-scale damage evolution equation for high cycle fatigue is presented according to the experimental data, in which factors such as the stress amplitude and mean stress are taken into account. Then, a method is proposed to obtain the material parameters of the revised equation from the present fatigue experimental data. Finally, with the utilization of the ANSYS parametric design language （APDL） on the ANSYS platform, the coupling effect between the fatigue damage of materials and the stress distribution in structures is taken into account, and the fatigue life of specimens is predicted. The outcome shows that the numerical prediction is in accord with the experimental results, indicating that the revised two-scale damage evolution model can be well applied for the high cycle fatigue life prediction under uniaxial loading.
