In this study,the uninjured periventricular area of a female patient who presented with complete paralysis of the left extremities following middle cerebral artery infarction was analyzed using diffusion tensor tractography,transcranial magnetic stimulation,and functional magnetic resonance *** tensor tractography revealed interrupted corticospinal tract at the infarct lesion in the corona radiata at 2 weeks after onset,which descended through the spared periventricular area at 6 months after *** magnetic stimulation and functional magnetic resonance imaging revealed a motor pathway of the affected hand that was compatible with the lateral corticospinal *** 6 months after onset,motor function in the affected extremities recovered to normal levels,which suggested that motor function in the affected hand recovered by the corticospinal tract that passed through the spared periventricular *** arterial territory of the spared periventricular area corresponded with the anterior choroidal *** results suggest that care should be taken in spared periventricular areas in patients with lesions at the corona radiata level.

Hypoxic-ischemic brain injury （HI-BI） is one of the most common causes of severe neurological disability, Some studies have reported diffusion tensor imaging （DTI） findings of neonatal patients with HI-BI. however, very little is known about DTI in the adult brain. The present study reports on a 15-year-old male patient with HI-BI, who exhibited no specific focal lesions on conventional brain MRI at 5 weeks. however, neural tract injuries were revealed by DTI. Seven control subjects were also evaluated. The patient suffered from cardiac arrest due to ventricular fibrillation for a period of 10 15 minutes. At 4 weeks after onset of cardiac arrest, although he was conscious and alert, he exhibited mild quadriparesis and severe cognitive dysfunction. DTI was acquired at 5 weeks after HI-BI onset. Decreased fractional anisotropy or voxel number of neural tracts suggested partial injury of the corticospinal tract, fornix, and cingulum. Disruptions of the fornix and cingulum on DTI confirmed neural tract injury. DTI could serve as a useful tool for evaluating the state of neural tracts in patients with HI-BI.

We highlight strategies in hong Kong, China that have enabled preoperative prognostication for judicious patient selection, downstaging therapy to definitive treatment, and postoperative therapies that have provided a growing role for liver transplantation in patients with more advanced hepatocellular carcinoma.

Aqueous Ni-Zn microbatteries are safe,reliable and inexpensive but notoriously suffer from inadequate energy and power ***,we present a novel mechanism of superoxide-activated Ni substrate that realizes the redox reaction featuring three-electron transfers(Ni↔Ni3+).The superoxide activates the direct redox reaction between Ni substrate and KNiO_(2)by lowering the reaction Gibbs free energy,supported by in-situ Raman and density functional theory *** prepared chronopotentiostatic superoxidation-activated Ni(CPS-Ni)electrodes exhibit an ultrahigh capacity of 3.21 mAh cm^(-2)at the current density of 5 mA cm^(-2),nearly 8 times that of traditional one-electron processes *** under the ultrahigh 200 mA cm^(-2)current density,the CPS-Ni electrodes show 86.4%capacity retention with a Columbic efficiency of 99.2%after 10,000 *** CPS-Ni||Zn microbattery achieves an exceptional energy density of 6.88 mWh cm^(-2)and power density of 339.56 mW cm^(-2).Device demonstration shows that the power source can continuously operate for more than 7 days in powering the sensing and computation intensive practical application of photoplethysmographic waveform *** work paves the way to the development of multi-electron transfer mechanisms for advanced aqueous Ni-Zn batteries with high capacity and long lifetime.

The validity of the Reynolds equation in spool valve analysis considering cavitation

The purpose of this research is to investigate the validity of the Reynolds equation in spool valve analysis under cavitation. This study is carried out for a laminar and isothermal flow between a sleeve and spool with grooves. The pressure and lateral force obtained from the Reynolds equation and the Navier-Stokes equation are compared with variations of aspect ratio, cross sectional area, and number of grooves. The cavitation phenomenon is considered by using a cavitation model in the Navier-Stokes equation and the Reynolds cavitation boundary condition in the Reynolds equation. A large difference of more than 20% is found between the equations for a lateral force of spool valve with many grooves. It was found that the Reynolds equation is not suitable for calculation of a lateral force of the spool valve with multiple-grooves of which the width and depth are even larger than the clearance under cavitation.

Peri-infarct reorganization has been reported in stroke patients with a lesion at the cerebral cortex, corona radiata, or pons, separately. however, there have been no reports describing the patients with peri-infarct reorganization at multiple levels. The present study reported a patient with a middle cerebral artery infarct who showed complete paralysis of the right extremities at stroke onset. Results showed that at 3 years after stroke onset, patient＇s motor function of the affected hand appeared to have been recovered by the motor tract, which reorganized into the anterior areas of the infarcted centrum semiovale and corona radiata, as demonstrated by diffusion tensor tractography study analyzed using functional MRI activation results. This result indicates that the human brain can show extensive brain plasticity and that saving the adjacent area or penumbra around the infarct even though the lesion from multiple levels is important for functional recovery after stroke.
