In this paper, the application of modified genetic algorithms (MGA) in the optimization of the ARX Model-based observer of the Pneumatic Artificial Muscle (PAM) manipulator is investigated. The new MGA algorithm is proposed from the genetic algorithm with important additional strategies, and consequently yields a faster convergence and a more accurate search. Firstly, MGA-based identification method is used to identify the parameters of the nonlinear PAM manipulator described by an ARX model in the presence of white noise and this result will be validated by MGA and compared with the simple genetic algorithm (GA) and LMS (Least mean-squares) method. Secondly, the intrinsic features of the hysteresis as well as other nonlinear disturbances existing intuitively in the PAM system are estimated online by a Modified Recursive Least Square (MRLS) method in identification experiment. Finally, a highly efficient self-tuning control algorithm Minimum Variance Control (MVC) is taken for tracking the joint angle position trajectory of this PAM manipulator. Experiment results are included to demonstrate the excellent performance of the MGA algorithm in the NARX model-based MVC control system of the PAM system. These results can be applied to model, identify and control other highly nonlinear systems as well.

Objectives： Chunghyuldan （CHD）, a combinatorial drug that has anti-hyperlipidemic and anti inflammatory activities, has been shown to reduce infarct volume in a focal ischemia-reperfusion rat model. To explore the molecular basis of CHD＇s neuroprotective effect, we examined whether CHD shows a cell-protective activity and has a regulatory effect on Bax and/or B-cell leukemia/lymphoma 2 （Bcl-2） expression in mouse neuroblastoma 2a （N2a） cells subjected to hypoxia-reoxygenation （H/R）. Methods： In order to evaluate the effects of CHD on the cytotoxicity induced from hypoxia or H/R condition, lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） assay was performed. To explore whether the suppression of neural damage when pre-treated with CHD is associated with its anti-apoptotic effect, the CHD effect on the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax was analyzed by Western blotting analysis. Results： Cytotoxicity of N2a cell line was slightly increased in 42 h hypoxia condition and dramatically increased under the H/R condition. CHD treatment markedly decreased the cytotoxicity in both conditions （P〈0.01, P〈0.05）. H/R markedly increased the expression of the pro-apoptotic protein, Bax, but slightly increased the expression of the anti-apoptotic protein, Bcl-2, compared with the normoxia or hypoxia group. CHD significantly decreased Bax expression （P〈0.01） and slightly decreased Bcl-2 expression （P〉0.05）, resulted in a reduction of Bax/Bcl-2 ratio in N2a cells subjected to H/R. Conclusion： CHD has neuroprotective effect in N2a cells subjected to H/R, which might be derived at least in part from its ability to decrease the expression of the pro-apoptotic protein, Bax.

OBJECTIVE: To show whether Danggui Sini plus Wuzhuyu Shengjiang Tang(DSWST) has any transient effect on erythrocyte deformability in normal ***: A total of 25 subjects [mean age(27.8± 1.8) years] was enrolled in this study. The study was designed as a cross-over trial in which the subjects took part for 2 d. On the first day, blood samples were collected at baseline and 1-2 h after administration of water, whereas, on the second day, instead of water, the subjects were administered DSWST after the baseline blood sampling. The blood samples collected at baseline and after the administration water or DSWST, were examined for erythrocyte ***: The elongation index increased significantly after 2 h(P = 0.009) compared to the baseline after DSWST intake. however, after water intake, there was no significant differenceobserved. When comparing the percent change of erythrocyte deformability between DSWST and water, we found that after 2 h of administration,DSWST improved erythrocyte deformability significantly compared to water(P < 0.001).CONCLUSION: DSWST has a transient effect on erythrocyte deformability in normal subjects.

Acupuncture has been broadly used as a major therapeutic tool for at least 2,100 years in East Asia. Acupuncture is used for improving the pathological condition of remote organs, such as stomach, liver, brain, etc. by stimulating skin and muscle with fine metal needles through meridians which have been regarded as pathways of Qi within the body （Ernst, 2006）. Physicians in East Asia have tried to treat many kinds of diseases by acupuncture and it was considerably success- ful. Various diseases for which acupuncture is known to be effective, are neurological diseases, including sequelae of stroke, Alzheimer＇s disease （AD）, Parkinson＇s disease （PD）, and so on （nam et al., 2013）.

This study analyzes change in carbon storage by applying forest growth models and final cutting age to actual and potential forest cover for six major tree species in South Korea. Using National Forest Inventory data, the growth models were developed to estimate mean diameter at breast height, tree height, and number of trees for Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida, Larix kaernpferi, Castanea crenata and Quercus spp. stands. We assumed that actual forest cover in a forest type map will change into potential forest covers according to the Hydrological and Thermal Analogy Groups model. When actual forest cover reaches the final cutting age, forest volume and carbon storage are estimated by changed forest cover and its growth model. Forest volume between 2010 and 2110 would increase from 126.73 to 157.33 m^3 hm^-2. Our results also show that forest cover, volume, and carbon storage could abruptly change by 2060. This is attributed to the fact that most forests are presumed to reach final cutting age. To avoid such dramatic change, a regeneration and yield control scheme should be prepared and implemented in a way that ensures balance in forest practice and yield.

AIM To evaluate portal vein(PV) stenosis and stent patency after hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, using abdominal computed tomography(CT).METhoDS Percutaneous portal venous stenting was attempted in 22 patients with significant PV stenosis(> 50%)-after hepatobiliary or pancreatic surgery- diagnosed by abdominal CT. Stents were placed in various stenotic lesions after percutaneous transhepatic portography. Pressure gradient across the stenotic segment was measured in 14 patients. Stents were placed when the pressure gradient across the stenotic segment was > 5 mm Hg or PV stenosis was > 50%, as observed on transhepatic portography. Patients underwent followup abdominal CT and technical and clinical success, complications, and stent patency were *** Stent placement was successful in 21 patients(technical success rate: 95.5%). Stents were positioned through the main PV and superior mesenteric vein(n = 13), main PV(n = 2), right and main PV(n = 1), left and main PV(n = 4), or main PV and splenic vein(n = 1). Patients showed no complications after stent placement. The time between procedure and final follow-up CT was 41-761 d(mean: 374.5 d). Twenty stents remained patent during the entire follow-up. Stent obstruction-caused by invasion of the PV stent by a recurrent tumor- was observed in 1 patient in a follow-up CT performed after 155 d after the procedure. The cumulative stent patency rate was 95.7%. Small in-stent low-density areas were found in 11(55%) patients; however, during successive follow-up CT, the extent of these areas had *** Percutaneous transhepatic stent placement can be safe and effective in cases of PV stenosis after hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. Stents show excellent patency in follow-up abdominal CT, despite development of small in-stent low-density areas.

The short release half-life of carbon monoxide(CO)is a major obstacle to the effective therapeutic use of carbon monoxide-releasing molecule-2(CORM-2).The potential of CORM-2-entrapped ultradeformable liposomes(CORM-2-UDLs)to enhance the release half-life of CO and alleviate skin inflammation was investigated in the present ***-2-UDLs were prepared by using soy phosphatidylcholine to form lipid bilayers and Tween 80 as an edge *** deformability of CORM-2-UDLs was measured and compared with that of conventional liposomes by passing formulations through a filter device at a constant *** release profile of CO from CORM-2-UDLs was evaluated by myoglobin *** vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory effects of CORM-2-UDLs were assessed in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated macrophages and TPA-induced ear edema model,*** deformability of the optimized CORM-2-UDLs was 2.3 times higher than conventional ***-2-UDLs significantly prolonged the release half-life of CO from 30 s in a CORM-2 solution to 21.6 ***-2-UDLs demonstrated in vitro anti-inflammatory activity by decreasing nitrite production and pro-inflammatory cytokine ***,CORM-2-UDLs successfully ameliorated skin inflammation by reducing ear edema,pathological scores,neutrophil accumulation,and inflammatory cytokines *** results demonstrate that CORM-2-UDLs could be used as promising therapeutics against acute skin inflammation.

AIM: To analyze predictive factors for lymph node metastasis in early gastric ***: We analyzed 1104 patients with early gastric cancer(EGC) who underwent a gastrectomy with lymph-node dissection from May 2003 through July 2011. The clinicopathologic factors and molecular markers were assessed as predictors for lymph node metastasis. Molecular markers such as microsatellite instability, human mut L homolog 1, p53, epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2(HER2) were included. The χ2 test and logistic regression analysis were used to determine clinicopathologic ***: Lymph node metastasis was observed in 104(9.4%) of 1104 patients. Among 104 cases of lymph node positive patients, 24 patients(3.8%) were mucosal cancers and 80 patients(16.7%) were submucosal. According to histologic evaluation, the number of lymph node metastasis found was 4(1.7%) for well differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma, 45(11.3%) for moderately differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma, 36(14.8%) for poorly differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma, and 19(8.4%) for signet ring cell carcinoma. Of 690 EGC cases, 77 cases(11.2%) showed EGFR overexpression. HER2 overexpression was present in 110 cases(27.1%) of 406 EGC patients. With multivariate analysis, female gender(OR = 2.281, P = 0.009), presence of lymphovascular invasion(OR = 10.950, P hovascular invasion and EGFR overexpression were predictive risk factors for lymph node metastasis in EGC.

Graphene nanostructures with complex geometries have been widely explored for plasmonic applications,as their plasmonic resonances exhibit high spatial confinement and gate ***,edge effects in graphene and the narrow range over which plasmonic resonances can be tuned have limited the use of graphene in optical and optoelectronic *** we present a novel approach to achieve mechanically reconfigurable and strongly resonant plasmonic structures based on crumpled *** calculations show that mechanical reconfiguration of crumpled graphene structures enables broad spectral tunability for plasmonic resonances from mid-to nearinfrared,acting as a new tuning knob combined with conventional electrostatic ***,a continuous sheet of crumpled graphene shows strong confinement of plasmons,with a high near-field intensity enhancement of~1×10^(4).Finally,decay rates for a dipole emitter are significantly enhanced in the proximity of finite-area biaxially crumpled graphene *** findings indicate that crumpled graphene provides a platform to engineer graphenebased plasmonics through broadband manipulation of strong plasmonic resonances.
