A prospective cancer chemo-immunotherapy approach mediated by synergistic CD326 targeted porous silicon nanovectors

Combination therapy via nanoparticulate systems has already been proposed as a synergistic approach for cancer treatment. Herein, undecylenic acid modified thermally hydrocarbonized porous silicon nanoparticles （UnTHCPSi NPs） loaded with sorafenib and surface-biofunctionalized with anti-CD326 antibody （Ab） were developed for cancer chemo-immunotherapy in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. The cytocompatibility study showed no significant toxicity for the bare and antibody-conjugated UnTHCPSi （Un-Ab） NPs at concentrations lower than 200 μg·mL^-1. Compared to the bare UnTHCPSi, Un-Ab NPs loaded with sorafenib reduced the premature drug release in plasma, increasing the probability of proper drug targeting. In addition, high cellular interaction and subsequent internalization of the Un-Ab NPs into the cells expressing CD326 antigen demonstrated the possibility of improving antigen-mediated endocytosis via CD326 targeting. While an in vitro antitumor study revealed a higher inhibitory effect of the sorafenib-loaded Un-Ab NPs compared to the drug-loaded UnTHCPSi NPs in the CD326 positive MCF-7 cells, there was no difference in the anti-proliferation impact of both the abovementioned NPs in the CD326 negative MDA-MB-231 cells, suggesting CD326 as an appropriate receptor for Ab-mediated drug delivery. It was also shown that the anti-CD326 Ab can act as an immunotherapeutic agent by inducing antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity and enhancing the interaction of effector immune and cancer cells for subsequent phagocytosis and cytokine secretion. Hence, the developed nanovectors can be applied for simultaneous tumor-selective drug targeting and immunotherapy.

Analysis of Factors Determining the Demand for Water： A Case Study of Sabie Administrative Post, Moamba District, Mozambique

Water is an important resource for human being. However, it has been increasingly becoming the limited resource. Therefore, the debate of water issues has been centered in mechanisms to implement sustainable water management. Hence, understanding the determinants of water demand might help design appropriate water management policies, however, they are not known in Mozambique. Due to the lack of knowledge about the determinants of water demand in Mozambique in general and in Sabi6 in particular, the present study was conducted to analyse the factors determining the water demand for irrigation and domestic use using a linear regression model and travel cost method, respectively. The results show that an increase in 1 h of irrigation time increases the quantity demanded of irrigation water by 362.04 m3 and an increase in one irrigation per week increases the quantity demanded of irrigation water by 1,065.61 m3. Additionally, the results show that an increase in 1% of time spent in water collection decreases the number of trips by 0.3% and an increase in 1% in the number of household members involved in water collection decreases the number of the water collection trips by 0.23%. Household having private taps have less number of trips collecting water compared to those collecting water from public taps and boreholes as well as rivers. Therefore, the water demand for irrigation is determined by time spent for irrigation per day and the number of irrigations per week, and water demand for domestic use is determined by time spent for water collection, number of household members involved in water collection, the volumes of the containers used to collect water, the number of containers used to collect water, the quantity of water consumed by the household as well as the main source of water （river, boreholes and public tap）.

Variability and Trends of Precipitation in Quelimane, Central Mozambique, and Their Relation to El Niño Southern Oscillation

Understanding precipitation variability and trends is very important for sustainable water management. In this paper, we used 65 years (1951-2016) long- term precipitation data to evaluate the precipitation variability and trends in Quelimane, and their relation to El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO). The analysis includes annual, inter-annual inter-decadal variations, Mann-Kendall trend test, and drought frequency. The study also evaluated the relationship between Oceanic Niño Index (ONI) and precipitation patterns during ENSO positive, normal and negative phases. The results show two distinct seasons of precipitation in Quelimane, the wet season extending between December and April and the dry season extending from May to November. ENSO was found to influence the inter-annual variations of precipitation during the wet season, with warm ENSO (El Niño) and cold (La Niña) events tending to reduce and increase the precipitation amounts, respectively. Decreasing trends in inter-annual variations of precipitation and increase of drought frequency and severity are highlighted in this study. Both decreasing trend of inter-annual variations and increasing of drought frequency and severity have intensified after the 1970s climate shift. These intensifications seem to be associated with the strengthening of ENSO

Osteocyte morphology and orientation in relation to strain in the jaw bone

Bone mass is important for dental implant success and is regulated by mechanoresponsive osteocytes. We aimed to investigate the relationship between the levels and orientation of tensile strain and morphology and orientation of osteocytes at different dental implant positions in the maxillary bone. Bone biopsies were retrieved from eight patients who underwent maxillary sinus-floor elevation with β-tricalcium phosphate prior to implant placement. Gap versus free-ending locations were compared using 1) a three-dimensional finite-element model of the maxilla to predict the tensile strain magnitude and direction and 2) histology and histomorphometric analyses. The finite-element model predicted larger, differently directed tensile strains in the gap versus freeending locations. The mean percentage of mineralised residual native-tissue volume, osteocyte number(mean ± standard deviations:97 ± 40/region-of-interest), and osteocyte shape(90% elongated,10% round) were similar for both locations. However, the osteocyte surface area was 1.5-times larger in the gap than in the free-ending locations, and the elongated osteocytes in these locations were more cranially caudally oriented. In conclusion, significant differences in the osteocyte surface area and orientation seem to exist locally in the maxillary bone, which may be related to the tensile strain magnitude and orientation. This might reflect local differences in the osteocyte mechanosensitivity and bone quality, suggesting differences in dental implant success based on the location in the maxilla.

The disposal of mining tailings has increasingly focused on the use of dry *** structures offer more security since they use filtered and compacted *** of the construction method and the heights achieved,the material that compounds the structure can be subjected to different stress paths along the failure *** theoretical framework considered in the design of these structures generally is the critical state soil mechanics(CSSM).However,the data in the literature concerning the uniqueness of critical state line(CSL)is still controversial as the soil is subjected to different stress *** respect to tailings,this question is even more *** paper studies two tailings with different gradings due to the beneficial processes over extension and compression paths.A series of drained and undrained triaxial tests was conducted over a range of initial densities and stress *** the q-p'plane,different critical stress ratio(M)values were obtained for compression and extension stress ***,the critical state friction angle is very similar with a slightly higher critical state friction angle for extension *** stress path dependent CSLs were obtained in the n-lnp0 plane with the extension tests below the CSL defined in *** the fines content,the studied tailings presented very similar M and critical state friction angle ***,the fines content af-fects the volumetric behavior of the studied tailings and the CSLs on the n-lnp0 plane shift downwards with the increasing fines content for compression and extension *** relation to dilatancy analysis,the fines content did not present an evident influence on the dilatancy of the ***,different values of mean stress ratio N were obtained between compression and extension tests and can corroborate the existence of non-unique CSLs for these materials.

The coastal human population has been growing in many countries around the *** is currently estimated that about half of the globe population lives in coastal zones,although there is large variation among *** several countries,coasts currently face severe sea-level rise problems as a consequence of tectonic and anthropogenically induced *** coastal systems should be considered vulnerable to changes in climate,given increasing population density in coastal zones,long lead times for implementation of many adaptation measures,and institutional,financial and technological *** long as population grows,maintenance of existing revetments and other shoreline structures is becoming more *** a result,inspection,repair,and rehabilitation of existing structures represent a large part of a coastal work.A regular structural and environmental forcing monitoring programme enables structures to be evaluated for safety,condition and functionality,as the cost of maintaining this existing coastal infrastructure is high,there are being developed and employed new methods to reduce *** rock and concrete armoured structures need ongoing maintenance to ensure they continue to perform acceptably. In Portugal there are about 290 coastal protection structures along the coastline and it is of vital national interest to study its stability and *** 70%percent of these structures are groins and *** project aims to be a contribution to its geoengineering,by developing new methodologies for the rock material evaluation since its origin (quarry) until the project.A case study of the coastal protection structures from Espinho region(NW Portugal,Iberian Peninsula) is presented,which includes a GIS-based recognition and characterization of armourstone quarries. Generalized Algorithms of Discrete Optimization and Their Power Engineering Applications

Generalized algorithms for solving problems of discrete, integer, and Boolean programming are discussed. These algorithms are associated with the method of normalized functions and are based on a combination of formal and heuristic procedures. This allows one to obtain quasi-optimal solutions after a small number of steps, overcoming the NP-completeness of discrete optimization problems. Questions of constructing so-called “duplicate” algorithms are considered to improve the quality of discrete problem solutions. An approach to solving discrete problems with fuzzy coefficients in objective functions and constraints on the basis of modifying the generalized algorithms is considered. Questions of applying the generalized algorithms to solve multicriteria discrete problems are also discussed. The results of the paper are of a universal character and can be applied to the design, planning, operation, and control of systems and processes of different purposes. The results of the paper are already being used to solve power engineering problems.

Rubblization of Shaybah Airport Runway Pavement—A Sustainable Circular Economy Solution

Shaybah airport runway upgrade construction work was successfully completed in 77 days, four months ahead of the contractual construction execution schedule. The project was honored with the PMI 2020 Project Excellence Award for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Rubblization of existing concrete pavement was one of the key factors for the early completion and project achievements and awards. Rubblization technology was used to crush existing worn-out Shaybah airport runway concrete pavement, keeping the integrity of underneath sub-grades, and reused as a structurally strong base course to overlay hot mix asphalt. This paper will share the success story behind the process of selection, definition, sourcing, implementation, validation and acceptance of rubblized concrete pavement, and its contribution to the Shaybah Airport Runway Upgrade Project’s achievements. This paper presents Rubblization as a practical, cost effective and sustainable option for repairing deteriorated airfield concrete pavement, and will also demonstrate how the implementation of rubblization of runway pavement contributes to the Saudi Aramco initiative to adopt circular economy principles. The circular economy unlocks economic opportunities, preserves natural resources, and improves environmental performance, an initiative sponsored by Saudi Aramco executive management.

Perception of Forensic Accountants About Elaboration of Free Judicial Expertise in Brazil

The Article 23 in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights mentions that all work must have a fair and favorable remuneration. However, in Brazil, the State uses the free legal aid as a way of minimizing the social and economic inequality, making it possible for the needy to have access to justice. Through the free legal aid, the litigant is exempted from payment of fees and legal expenses and court, thus, transferring the burden of work to professionals who assist in the judicial process. So, the magistrate can appoint an expert accountant to assist him in the trial of the legal question when the proof requires accounting knowledge. In this way, this article discusses the accounting expertise that is free of charge from the perception of expert accountants. The authors had applied questionnaires in August and September in 2008, and obtained 131 responses and 2,859 data. From this research, the authors observed that the majority of respondents when solicited to work with the possibility of non-payment attended the demand, and believed that this would contribute to society and assist the magistrate.
