Genetic background analysis and breed evaluation of Yiling yellow cattle

Traditionally, Chinese indigenous cattle is geographically widespread. The present study analyzed based on genome-wide variants to evaluate the genetic background among 157 individuals from four representative indigenous cattle breeds of hubei Province of China： Yiling yellow cattle （YL）, Bashan cattle （BS）, Wuling cattle （WL）, Zaobei cattle （ZB）, and 21 indi- viduals of Qinchuan cattle （QC） from the nearby Shanxi Province of China. Linkage disequilibrium （LD） analysis showed the LD of YL was the lowest （~=0.32） when the distance between markers was approximately 2 kb. Principle component analysis （PCA）, and neighbor-joining （NJ）-tree revealed a separation of Yiling yellow cattle from other geographic nearby local cattle breeds. In PCA plot, the YL and QC groups were segregated as expected; moreover, YL individuals clustered together more obviously. In the N J-tree, the YL group formed an independent branch and BS, WL, ZB groups were mixed. We then used the FST statistic approach to reveal long-term selection sweep of YL and other 4 cattle breeds. According to the selective sweep, we identified the unique pathways of YL, associated with production traits. Based on the results, it can be proposed that YL has its unique genetic characteristics of excellence resource, and it is an indispensable cattle breed in China.

Aldosterone induces inflammatory cytokines in penile corpus cavernosum by activating the NF-κB pathway

Emerging evidence indicates that aldosterone and mineralocorticoid receptors （MRs） are associated with the pathogenesis of erectile dysfunction. However, the molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. In this study, freshly isolated penile corpus cavernosum tissue from rats was treated with aldosterone, with or without MRs inhibitors. Nuclear factor （NF）-kappa B （NF-κB） activity was evaluated by real-time quantitative PCR, luciferase assay, and immunoblot. The results demonstrated that mRNA levels of the NF-κB target genes, including inhibitor of NF-κB alpha （IκB-α, NF-κB1, tumor necrosis factor-alpha （TNF-α, and interleukin 6 （IL-6）, were higher after aldosterone treatment. Accordingly, phosphorylation of p65/RelA, IκB-α, and inhibitor of NF-κB kinase-β was markedly increased by aldosterone. Furthermore, knockdown of MRs prevented activation of the NF-κB canonical pathway by aldosterone. Consistent with this finding, ectopic overexpression of MRs enhanced the transcriptional activation of NF-κB by aldosterone. More importantly, the MRs antagonist, spironolactone blocked aldosterone-mediated activation of the canonical NF-κB pathway. In conclusion, aldosterone has an inflammatory effect in the corpus cavernosum penis, inducing NF-κB activation via an MRs-dependent pathway, which may be prevented by selective MRs antagonists. These data reveal the possible role of aldosterone in erectile dysfunction as well as its potential as a novel pharmacologic target for treatment.

Tribological study of N-containing borate derivatives and their synergistic antioxidation effects with T531

Two N-containing borates, BTES and BMES, were synthesized with dodecyl phenol, 2-(N-containing heterocyclic) ethan-1-ol, boric acid, and dibutylamine, and their tribological properties in rapeseed oil(RSO) were investigated using a four-ball tester. The results showed that the load-carrying ability(P_B value) of RSO can be improved by 40.9% and 67.9%, respectively, when using 0.5 wt% BTES and BMES. Moreover, the antiwear and friction-reducing performances of the additive-containing oils increased with the additive concentration. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results of the worn steel ball surfaces showed that BTES and BMES formed protective films, which contained boron oxide, iron oxide, ferrous sulfate, ferrous sulfide(for BMES), and other organic nitrogen compounds, on the metal surfaces. The better load-carrying and antiwear performances of BMES than those of BTES might be due to their different sulfur contents, which result in different tribochemical reaction films on the contact surfaces. The oxidation stability tests showed that BTES and BMES possessed synergistic antioxidation activity with N-phenyl-α-naphthylamine(T531), and consequently, the oxidation activation energy of the oil sample increased by 77.85% and 82.19%, respectively, compared with that of RSO when the oil sample contained 0.05 wt% BTES/BMES and 0.25% T531.

Intestinal obstruction is a common clinical entity encountered in surgical *** objective of this report is to corroborate an atypical scenario of intestinal obstruction in a Chinese patient and to focus on the diagnosis and treatment.A 27-year-old male presented with a history of gastric pain combined with nausea and abdominal distension that had been present for 5 *** presence of a foreign body was detected by computed tomography and observed as an abnormal density within the stomach.A diospyrobezoar was revealed during gastroscopy,the extraction of which was preventeddue to its size and *** endoscopic holmium laser joined with a snare was used to fragment the obstruction,which was followed by management with a conservative"sandwich"treatment strategy involving intestinal decompression with an ileus tube and Coca-Cola lavage between endoscopic lithotripsy fragmentation *** strategy resulted in the successful removal of the diospyrobezoar along with multiple small bowel *** patient was discharged after abatement of *** case presented here demonstrates the implementation of a conservative,yet successful,treatment as an alternative to conventional surgical removal of intestinal obstructions.

Study on interface failure of shape memory alloy(SMA)reinforced smart structure with damages

Shape memory alloy （SMA） reinforced smart structure can be used to make structural shape and strength selfadapted and structural damage self-restrained. Although SMA smart structures without damages were extensively studied, researches on SMA smart structures with damages have rarely been reported thus far. In this paper, thermo-mechanical behaviors of SMA fiber reinforced smart structures with damages are analyzed through a shear lag model and the variational principle, Mathematical expressions of the meso-displacement field and the stress-strain field of a typical element with damages are obtained, and a failure criterion for interface failure between SMA fibers and matrix is established, which is applied to an example. Results presented herein may provide a theoretical foundation for further studies on integrity of SMA smart structures.

The acquisition of images with a fish-eye lens can cause serious image distortion because of the short focal length of the *** a result,it is difficult to use the obtained image *** make use of the effective information in the image,these distorted imagesmust first be corrected into the perspective of projection images in accordance with the human eye’s observation *** solve this problem,this study presents an adaptive classification fitting method for fish-eye image *** degree of distortion in the image is represented by the difference value of the distances fromthe distorted point and undistorted point to the center of the *** target points selected in the image are classified by the difference *** the areas classified by different distortion differences,different parameter curves were used for fitting and *** algorithm was verified through *** results showed that this method has a substantial correction effect on fish-eye images taken by different fish-eye lenses.

LiCoO_2 is one of the most important cathode materials for high energy density lithium ion batteries. The compressed behavior of LiCoO_2 under high pressure has been investigated using synchrotron radiation x-ray diffraction. It is found that LiCoO_2 maintains hexagonal symmetry up to the maximum pressure of 30.1 GPa without phase transition. The elastic modulus at ambient pressure is 159.5(2.2) GPa and its first derivative is 3.92(0.23). In addition, the high-pressure compression behavior of LiCoO_2 has been studied by first principles calculations. The derived bulk modulus of LiCoO_2 is 141.6 GPa.

Effects of estimating the ionospheric and thermospheric parameters on electron density forecasts

Based on the thermosphere-Ionosphere-Electrodynamics General Circulation Model(TIEGCM), a thermosphericionospheric data assimilation and forecast system is developed. Using this system, we estimated the oxygen ions, neutral temperature, wind, and composition by assimilating the simulated data from Formosa Satellite 3/Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate(COSMIC) occultation electron density profiles to evaluate their effects on the ionospheric forecast. An ensemble Kalman filter data assimilation scheme and combined state and parameter estimation methods are used to estimate the unobserved parameters in the model. The statistical results show that the neutral and ion compositions are more effective than the neutral temperature and wind for improving the forecast of the ionospheric electron density, whose root mean square errors in the assimilation period decreased by approximately 40%, 30%, and 10% due to the estimations of the neutral composition, oxygen ions, and neutral temperature, respectively. Due to the different physical and chemical processes that these parameters primarily affect, their e-folding times differ greatly from longer than 12 h for neutral composition to approximately 6 h for oxygen ions and 3 h for neutral temperature. The effect of estimating the neutral composition on improving the ionospheric forecast is greater than that of estimating the oxygen ions, which can be also be seen in an actual data assimilation experiment. This indicates that the neutral composition is the most important thermospheric parameter in ionospheric data assimilations and forecasts.

Possible Role of DNA Polymerase beta in Protecting human Bronchial Epithelial Cells Against Cytotoxicity of Hydroquinone

Objective To explore the toxicological mechanism of hydroquinone in human bronchial epithelial cells and to investigate whether DNA polymerase beta is involved in protecting cells from damage caused by hydroquinone. Methods DNA polymerase beta knock-down cell line was established via RNA interference as an experimental group. Normal human bronchial epithelial cells and cells transfected with the empty vector of pEGFP-C1 were used as controls. Cells were treated with different concentrations of hydroquinone （ranged from 10 μmol/L to 120 μmol/L） for 4 hours. MTT assay and Comet assay [single-cell gel electrophoresis （SCGE）] were performed respectively to detect the toxicity of hydroquinone. Results assay showed that DNA polymerase beta knock-down cells treated with different concentrations of hydroquinone had a lower absorbance value at 490 nm than the control cells in a dose-dependant manner. Comet assay revealed that different concentrations of hydroquinone caused more severe DNA damage in DNA polymerase beta knock-down cell line than in control cells and there was no significant difference in the two control groups. Conclusions Hydroquinone has significant toxicity to human bronchial epithelial cells and causes DNA damage. DNA polymerase beta knock-down cell line appears more sensitive to hydroquinone than the control cells. The results suggest that DNA polymerase beta is involved in protecting cells from damage caused by hydroquinone.
