Mechanism of tobacco osmotin gene in plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress tolerance:A brief history

Plants are recurrently exposed to myriads of biotic and abiotic stresses leading to several biochemical and physiological variations that cause severe impacts on plant growth and *** overcome these challenges,plants activate two primary defense mechanisms,such as structural response(cell wall strengthening and waxy epidermal cuticle development)and metabolic changes,including the synthesis of anti-microbial compounds and proteins,especially the pathogenesis-related(PR)*** proteins are members of a super large family of defense proteins that exhibit antimicrobial *** over-expression in plants provides tolerance to many abiotic and biotic *** proteins have been classified into 17 families,including PR-5–also called thaumatin-like proteins(TLPs)that involve osmotin and osmotin-like proteins(OLPs).Osmotin was first identified in tobacco(Nicotiana tabacum *** 38),and then its homolog proteins(OLPs)were reported from the whole plant *** and OLPs are ubiquitous in all fruits and *** expression has been detected in various plant tissues and *** phylogenetic tree studies revealed that the osmotin group originated from ***,the atomic structure of OLP has shown similarity to thaumatin and TLPs from monocot and eudicot species,which determines a strong evolutionary pressure in flowering plants for conserving thaumatin *** is associated with the role of these proteins against pathogens as defense molecules and to induce stress tolerance to plants against several biotic and abiotic *** this review,we have briefly described the development history of osmotin,including its function and mechanism to induce biotic and abiotic stress tolerance to plants.

Identification and selection of resistance to Bemisia tabaci among 550 cotton genotypes in the field and greenhouse experiments

Plants have developed sophisticated systems to cope with herbivore challenge, including morphological barriers and secondary metabolites to reduce damage. In this study, 550 Gossypium genotypes were evaluated for whitefly(Bemisia tabaci) resistance in five experiments including two in the field and three in the greenhouse, with23 resistant and 19 susceptible genotypes ***-resistance index determination showed that a leaf having a high density of hairs had resistance to whitfly egg/nymph production. Longer leaf hairs were also important for resistance. This study revealed that okra shaped leaves reduced adult whitefly oviposition preference, while glabrous leaves and high hair density helped not only in the reduction of the adults but also decreased oviposition preference. Gossypol was also observed to be involved in the reduction of adult whitefly development and/or survival.

The selection of heterotic F1 hybrid varieties is a key agronomic strategy for improving crop yields,quality,and disease resistance(Bohra et al.,2016).Large-scale,low-cost hybrid seed production involves generating large populations of female plants,otherwise known as male *** techniques implying environmentally conditioned nuclear male sterility or mitochondria-driven cytoplasmic male sterility(CMS)have been used to this end,each with their own advantages and disadvantages(Kim and Zhang,2018).Because of its low cost and high purity,CMS hybrid breeding is by far the most widely used hybrid technology and has been implemented in many field and horticultural crops(Bohra et al.,2016).It usually relies on a three-component assembly involving a male-sterile CMS line,a fertility restorer line,and a maintainer *** between CMS and maintainer lines allow large-scale multiplication of female plants,whereas crosses with the restorer line produce heterotic malerestored hybrids that can thus set fruits(Figure 1).

Spectroscopic Observations of Ten Galactic Wolf-Rayet Stars at Bosscha Observatory:Determination of Stellar Parameters and Mass-loss Rates

We present optical spectra of 10 Galactic Wolf-Rayet(WR)stars that consist of five WN and five WC *** optical observation was conducted using a low-resolution spectrograph NEO-R1000(λ/Δλ~1000)at GAO-ITB RTS(27.94 cm,F/10.0),Bosscha Observatory,*** implemented stellar atmosphere Postdam Wolf-Rayet(PoWR)grid modeling to derive stellar *** normalized optical spectrum can be used to find the best model from the available PoWR grid,then we could derive stellar temperature and transformation *** derive luminosity,stellar radius and color excess,we conducted a Spectral Energy Distribution(SED)analysis with additional data on the near-ultraviolet spectrum from the International Ultraviolet Explorer(IUE)database,and UBV and 2MASS JHK broadband filter *** analysis to derive asymptotic terminal wind velocity was conducted from the P-Cygni profile analysis of the high-resolution IUE ultraviolet *** previously derived parameters,we could determine the mass loss rate of the WR ***,we compared our results with previous work that used PoWR code and the differences are not more than 20%.We conclude that the PoWR spectral grid is sufficient to derive WR stellar parameters quickly and could provide more accurate initial parameter input to the PoWR program code.

Model variables identification of a gas turbine using a subspace approach based on input/output data measurements

This paper deals with a state model identification of a gas turbine used for gas transport, using a subspace approach of the state space model. This method provides a reliable and robust state representation of the model, taking advantage of its benefits in the control, monitoring, and supervision of this machine. The model for each variable is set so that the state matrices associated with the gas turbine model are determined from their real input/output data. The comparison of the obtained identification results with those of the actual turbine operation serves to validate the proposed model in this work. This numerical algorithm of the subspace identification method is full of information and more accurate in terms of residual modeling error, and expresses a very high level of confidence in the identified turbine system dynamics. Hence, the controllability and observability tests of turbine operation for different input/output variables allowed to validate the real-time operating stability of the turbine.

Numerical Methods for Two-Fluid Dispersive Fast MHD Phenomena

The finite volume wave propagation method and the finite element RungeKutta discontinuous Galerkin(RKDG)method are studied for applications to balance laws describing plasma *** plasma fluid equations explored are dispersive and not *** physical dispersion introduced through the source terms leads to the wide variety of plasma *** dispersive nature of the plasma fluid equations explored separates the work in this paper from previous *** linearized Euler equations with dispersive source terms are used as a model equation system to compare the wave propagation and RKDG *** numerical methods are then studied for applications of the full two-fluid plasma *** two-fluid equations describe the self-consistent evolution of electron and ion fluids in the presence of electromagnetic *** is found that the wave propagation method,when run at a CFL number of 1,is more accurate for equation systems that do not have disparate characteristic ***,if the oscillation frequency is large compared to the frequency of information propagation,source splitting in the wave propagation method may cause phase *** Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin method provides more accurate results for problems near steady-state as well as problems with disparate characteristic speeds when using higher spatial orders.

Assessment of ship manoeuvrability by using a coupling between a nonlinear transient manoeuvring model and mathematical programming techniques

In this paper, a numerical method based on a coupling between a mathematical model of nonlinear transient ship manoeuvring motion in the horizontal plane and Mathematical Programming （MP） techniques is proposed. The aim of the proposed procedure is an efficient estimation of optimal ship hydrodynamic parameters in a dynamic model at the early design stage. The proposed procedure has been validated through turning circle and zigzag manoeuvres based on experimental data of sea trials of the 190 000- dwt oil tanker. Comparisons between experimental and computed data show a good agreement of overall tendency in manoeuvring traiectories.
