Anticancer Activity of Peganum harmala and haloxylon salicornicum Leaf Extracts on Lung Cancer A549 and Prostate Cancer PC-3 Cell Lines

Cancer is a worldwide disease that ranks as the second-largest cause of death after cardiovascular disease. In 2019, the estimated number of cancer deaths was around 10 million worldwide and 600,000 in the United States. Due to the high side effects of the available treatments for cancer, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, a demand for alternative treatments has been a goal for scientists with less toxicity and side effects. Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer worldwide and the leading cause of death in the United States. In addition, prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men after lung cancer. Natural sources discovered to have therapeutic medicinal properties against human diseases are the plants Peganum harmala and haloxylon salicornicum. The aim of this study is to test the anticancer activity of leaf extracts of Peganum harmala and haloxylon salicornicum on lung cancer (A549) and prostate cancer (PC3) cell lines. The anticancer activity of P. harmala and h. salicornicum was studied using the assays: crystal violet viability, lipid peroxidation, and caspase-3 techniques, which were evaluated in vitro on two human cancer cell lines. The results of the study showed that both plants’ extracts reduced the viability of both cancer cell lines, which depended on the concentration of the extract. Also, P. harmala showed more potent activity against both types of cancer than h. salicornicum. P. harmala and h. salicornicum decreased the lipid peroxidation that induces cancer as well as increased the expression of caspase-3, which causes apoptosis and cell death. This study concluded that P. harmala and h. salicornicum leaf extracts showed significant anticancer properties, which might be due to the presence of phytochemicals, including flavonoids and phenolics.

Neotectonic Indications from the Western and Southern Deserts of Iraq

The Iraqi Western and Southern deserts are part of the Iraqi Stable Shelf (Inner Platform) that belongs to the Arabian Plate. Therefore, both deserts lack tectonic forms like folds and faults;however, very rarely faults and regional lineaments can be seen in both deserts. Although both deserts are tectonically stable, tens of Neotectonic indications can be seen everywhere in both deserts. Among those indications are: Straight valleys, perpendicular valley bendings, sinkholes aligned along straight lines, dislocated valleys, knickpoints within valleys aligned along straight lines, regional lineaments, anomalous valley shapes, trends, and types, dissected alluvial fans. We have used existing geological maps of different scales and Esri World Imagery to recognize those Neotectonic indications. All those recognized features are excellent indications that both the Iraqi Western and Southern deserts are tectonically not stable. Accordingly, new terminology is suggested instead of the Stable Shelf (Inner Platform) which is the “Less Disturbed Shelf”.

Although Cu was studied extensively,the hall-Petch relationship was mainly reported in the coarsegrained *** this work,fully recrystallized Cu specimens with a wide grain size regime of 0.51–14.93μm manifest a two-stage hall-Petch *** is a critical grain size of 3μm that divides stagesⅠandⅡwhere the hall-Petch slope k value are quite *** stageⅡis supposed to be validified down to 100 nm at least by comparing with a Cu-Ag *** critical grain size varies in different materials systems,and the underline mechanisms are discussed based on the dislocation glide modes.

Objectives:To determine the association of human leukocyte antigen B(hLA‑B)alleles with ankylosing spondylitis and the allelic association of hLAB27 with endoplasmic reticulum aminopeptidase 1(ERAP1)single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)rs30187 in patients with ankylosing spondylitis(AS).Methods:We studied 48 consecutively enrolled well-defined AS patients and 48 healthy controls recruited from the outpatient clinic of the rheumatology department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University(BSMMU),Dhaka,*** genotype hLA-B alleles from peripheral blood DNA,we designed sequence-specific primers for polymerase chain ***'s sequencing method was used to detect the ERAP1 rs30187 *** hLA-B allele distributions were compared between cases and *** infer an allelic association between hLA-B27 and ERAP1,allele distributions from both loci were compared using ***-squared test or Fisher's exact test was used to quantify the association,and their strength of association was tested by odds ratio(OR)with 95%confidence interval(CI).Results:The frequency of hLA-B27 was found to be higher in AS patients(60.4%)than in healthy controls(8.3%).hLA-B27 allele had an OR of 16.8(95%CI=5.2–54.4)for the development of ***,4%of AS patients had both hLA-B27 and *** significant association was found between ERAP1 rs30187 SNP and hLA-B27 in patients with AS(OR=1.7,95%CI=0.5–5.6).Conclusions:hLA-B27 was significantly associated with AS in patients in ***,no association between ERAP1 rs30187 SNP and hLA-B27 was observed.

Predicting Bursting Strength Behavior of Weft Knitted Fabrics Using Various Percentages of Cotton, Polyester, and Spandex Fibers

The bursting strength is an essential quality parameter of knit fabric. The fabric structure, weight, types of fibers, and fiber blend proportion influence the bursting strength parameter. The tenacity of polyester fiber is better than cotton and spandex. The study focused on predicting knit fabric bursting strength test value using different fibers (cotton, polyester, and spandex) with varying percentages of the blend ratio. This study used fifteen categories of blended fabrics. The Pearson Correlation and the hypothetical ANOVA regression analysis were conducted to do the statistical significance test. The experimental result reveals that the bursting strength test result increased with the increased percentage of polyester and suggested a suitable regression equation. The dominance of the polyester fiber was observed throughout the experiment, i.e., the higher the polyester blend proportion, the higher the bursting strength value. The inclusion of polyester in blends can reduce the cost of fabric. The developed prediction model or equation can help the fabric manufacturer make appropriate decisions regarding getting the expected bursting strength. The researcher hopes that the findings from this study will motivate new researchers, advanced researchers, and the textile manufacturing industry.

为了预测某裂缝性气藏在18年规划周期内的累计产量,建立了3种元模型,并结合数值模拟累计产量预测结果对各模型进行了验证和对比。估算了气藏的基本参数(孔隙度、渗透率及含水饱和度)并对气藏进行了数值模拟。将气藏内某井18年内的累计产量表示为各气藏参数的函数,采用储量计算经验函数排除了研究空间内的低潜力点,并基于最大熵准则选取25个高潜力点作为设计点。建立了二次模型、乘性模型和RBF模型3种元模型,基于各模型预测了25个设计点和7个试验点处的累计产量。预测结果表明:各模型均能比较准确地预测累计产量;RBF模型的累计产量预测准确性优于另外2种模型;与数值模拟方法相比,元建模方法的计算时间大幅缩短。

DLC super-hard films have been deposited on the substrates of single crystalline Si, pure Ti and stainless steel 18-8 by a method of vacuum cathode arc deposition (VCAD). The composition, microstructure and micro-hardness of the films have been studied in this paper. The results indicate that hardness of the DLC films is different on the different substrates. hardness of the films increases with decreasing in surface roughness of the films. The maximum value of micro-hardness belongs to the DLC films deposited under the hydrogen pressure of 0.35Pa and the negative bias of 100V.

Rapid cooling and solidification during laser additive manufacturing(LAM)can produce ultra-fine microstructure with higher ***,the non-uniform cell/grain structure can easily result in early stress concentration and fracture during deformation,which remains a major challenge for the LAM *** Al-12Si as the model alloy,we employed the external static magnetic field(SMF)to modulate the laser powder bed fusion process(L-PBF),demonstrating a uniform microstructure with a refined cell *** mechanical properties show that the SMF can produce a combination of high tensile strength of 451.4±0.5 MPa and large uniform elongation of 10.4%±0.79%,which are superior to those of previously-reported Al-Si alloys with post-treatment or element *** mechanism analysis based on multi-scale simulation reveals the determining role of SMF in rapid solidification,and this method is applicable to the microstructure control of other metallic materials during LAM.
