Anti-ganglioside antibodies are associated with delayed/poor clinical recovery in Guillain-Barrèsyndrome,mostly related to halted axon regeneration.cross-linking of cell surface gangliosides by anti-ganglioside antibodies triggers inhibition of nerve repair in in vitro and in vivo paradigms of axon regeneration.These effects involve the activation of the small GTPase Rho A/ROcK signaling pathways,which negatively modulate growth cone cytoskeleton,similarly to well stablished inhibitors of axon regeneration described so far.The aim of this work was to perform a proof of concept study to demonstrate the effectiveness of Y-27632,a selective pharmacological inhibitor of ROcK,in a mouse model of axon regeneration of peripheral nerves,where the passive immunization with a monoclonal antibody targeting gangliosides GD1a and GT1b was previously reported to exert a potent inhibitory effect on regeneration of both myelinated and unmyelinated fibers.Our results demonstrate a differential sensitivity of myelinated and unmyelinated axons to the pro-regenerative effect of Y-27632.Treatment with a total dosage of 9 mg/kg of Y-27632 resulted in a complete prevention of anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal antibody-mediated inhibition of axon regeneration of unmyelinated fibers to skin and the functional recovery of mechanical cutaneous sensitivity.In contrast,the same dose showed toxic effects on the regeneration of myelinated fibers.Interestingly,scale down of the dosage of Y-27632 to 5 mg/kg resulted in a significant although not complete recovery of regenerated myelinated axons exposed to anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal antibody in the absence of toxicity in animals exposed to only Y-27632.Overall,these findings confirm the in vivo participation of Rho A/ROcK signaling pathways in the molecular mechanisms associated with the inhibition of axon regeneration induced by anti-GD1a/GT1b monoclonal antibody.Our findings open the possibility of therapeutic pharmacological intervention targeting Rho A/Rock pathway in immune neuropathies associated wi

A detailed comparison of the composition of(RE)-Ba-cu-O-Ag bulk superconductors

The homogeneity of the microstructure and composition are critical in determining the properties of rare earthbarium‐cuprate,single grain bulk superconductors[(RE)BcO].The magnitude of the trapped magnetic field achieveable in these technologically important materials,in particular,is influenced heavily by the size and distribution of(RE)_(2)BacuO_(x)(RE‐211)flux pinning inclusions in the bulk microstructure,whereas the size and distribution of silver agglomerates present within the bulk superconducting matrix correlate directly with improved mechanical properties.With careful engineering,these materials have significant potential for application in range of devices related to energy storage,medicine,electro‐magnetic machinery and microelectronic technology.Fabrication of(RE)BcO bulk superconductors typically involves heating a powder compact above its peritectic decomposition temperature followed by slow cooling to facilitate the growth of a single grain.Each(RE)BcO composition has a different peritectic temperature and growth rate,which,therefore,necessitates different requirements in the heating profile.The fabrication temperature and growth rate,for example,may have an effect on the RE‐211 and silver distribution,which may,in turn,affect the superconducting properties of the resulting single grain.In this work we compare the distributions of silver and RE‐211 in the single grain microstructures of YBcOAg,GdBcO‐Ag,EuBcO‐Ag and SmBcO‐Ag bulk superconductors using optical microscopy,scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy.We observe that the distributions are very similar along both the a/b‐axis and c‐axis of these materials.This suggests that factors other than the maximum temperature used to achieve peritectic decomposition and the rate of single grain growth are particularly influential in determining the properties of the as‐processed samples in the top seeded melt growth process.This observation demonstrates there is freedom to use(RE)materials interchangeably between different

Empirical model for fusion cross sections of ca-induced reactions

A new empirical formula for the astrophysical S-factor has been suggested as a function of the coulomb interaction parameter,center of mass energy,and barrier height.About 22 fusion reactions with ^(40,48)ca as projectiles were considered for different targets,leading to compound nuclei with atomic and mass numbers varying between 40≤Z≤≤Z≤112 and 88≤A≤27888≤A≤278,respectively.The fusion cross-sections have been estimated using the geometric factor,the Gamow-Sommerfield factor,and the empirical formula for the S-factor.This study's findings showed better agreement with those of available experiments when compared to Wong's formula.The present work leads to a smaller standard deviation value than Wong's formula when used to correlate the experimental data of calcium-induced fusion reactions.Wong's formula provides a good approximation of fusion cross-sections when the center of mass energy is below the fusion barrier when compared to above the fusion barrier.

The multi-impurity system in cdSe nanoplatelets:electronic structure and thermodynamic properties

This paper theoretically studies the impurity states and the effects of impurity concentration and configuration on the optical,electrical,and statistical properties of cdSe nanoplatelets(NPLs).An image charge-based model of electron-impurity interaction is proposed.The charge-carrier energy spectra and corresponding wave functions depending on the impurity number and configuration are calculated.The electron binding energies are calculated for different NPL thicknesses.It is shown that the image charge-based interaction potential that arises due to the dielectric constants mismatch is much stronger than the interaction potential that does not take such a mismatch into account.Also,it is demonstrated that the binding energies are increasing with the number of impurities.We calculate the canonical partition function using the energy levels of the electron,which in turn is used to obtain the mean energy,heat capacity,and entropy of the non-interacting electron gas.The thermodynamic properties of the non-interacting electron gas that depend on the geometric parameters of the NPL,impurity number,configuration,and temperature are studied.

Inhibiting the oligomerization of mycobacterial DNA-directed RNA polymerase(RNAP)using natural compound via in-silico techniques

Mycobacterium tuberculosis(Mtb)is responsible for the spread of tuberculosis(TB).The current study employed virtual screening of 2569 natural compounds against the DNA-directed RNA polymerase(RNAP)of Mtb to identify the possible binders that can inhibit its function.The in-silico methodology included molecular docking to the compounds,further,the stability and flexibility of the best complexes were studied using molecular dynamics simulation,the MM/GBSA binding free energy technique with energy decomposition,PcA,FEL,steered MD simulation,and umbrella sampling.Individual virtual screenings were conducted for the five RNAP subunits(chains A,B,c,D,and E)to identify a compound capable of inhibiting RNAP oligomerization.A promising compound,isoestradiol 3-benzoate,exhibited a low binding score(−7.28kcal/mol to−8.21kcal/mol)and showed binding ability with all subunits of the protein.Thus,the five complexes with isoestradiol 3-benzoate were selected for molecular dynamics simulation analysis.Furthermore,RMSD showed that isoestradiol 3-benzoate bound with chain E showed the lowest RMSD of 0.49nm,while with chains A and B it had the most stable and consistent conformations with RMSD of 1.75nm and 1.2nm,respectively.The h-bond between isoestradiol 3-benzoate and chains c and E showed the highest occupancy(58.27%,45.33%,and 50.80%,42.25%,11.75%).Moreover,the MMPBSA technique showed that isoestradiol 3-benzoate had a strong association with chains B and c(ΔGbind=−126.25±2.03 and−129.27±2.25).Additionally,free energy decomposition,PcA,FEL-steered MD simulation,and umbrella sampling were also performed to validate the association of the ligand with the protein.Isoestradiol 3-benzoate binds strongly to chains B and E;therefore,it should be considered as viable candidate for inhibiting the formation of RNAP protein complex,concluded in this study.

Magnesium oxide(MgO) nanoadsorbents in wastewater treatment: A comprehensive review

Wastewater contamination by heavy metals and synthetic dyes presents a significant environmental challenge, necessitating effective and sustainable separation techniques. This review article provides a detailed examination of magnesium oxide(MgO) nanoparticles as an innovative nanoadsorbent for wastewater treatment, with a specific focus on heavy metal and dye removal. The review comprehensively explores various aspects of MgO nanoparticles, including their structural characteristics and synthesis techniques. The article delves into the morphology and crystallographic arrangement of MgO nanoparticles, offering insights into their structural attributes. Given the complexity of adsorption processes, the review identifies and analyzes parameters influencing the adsorption efficiency of MgO nanoparticles, such as temperature, ph, contact time, initial concentration, and co-existing ions. The interplay between these parameters and the adsorption capability of MgO nanoparticles emphasizes the importance of optimizing operational conditions. Furthermore, the review assesses various synthesis methods for MgO nanoparticles, including sol-gel, hydrothermal, precipitation, green synthesis, solvothermal, and template-assisted techniques. It discusses the advantages, limitations, and resulting nanoparticle characteristics of each method, enabling readers to grasp the implications of synthesis processes on adsorption efficiency. This comprehensive review consolidates current insights into the effectiveness of MgO nanoparticles as a potent nanoadsorbent for removing heavy metals and dyes from wastewater covering a wide spectrum of aspects related to MgO nanoparticles. Moreover, there is a need to investigate the use of MgO in the treatment of actual wastewater or river water,in order to leverage its cost-effectiveness and high efficiency for practical water treatment applications in real-time.

Wnt signaling plays a major role in regulating cell proliferation and differentiation.The Wnt ligands are a family of 19 secreted glycoproteins that mediate their signaling effects via binding to Frizzled receptors and LRP5/6 coreceptors and transducing the signal either throughβ-catenin in the canonical pathway or through a series of other proteins in the nonca-nonical pathway.Many of the individual components of both canonical and noncanonical Wnt signaling have additional functions throughout the body,establishing the complex interplay between Wnt signaling and other signaling pathways.This crosstalk between Wnt signaling and other pathways gives Wnt signaling a vital role in many cellular and organ processes.Dys-regulation of this system has been implicated in many diseases affecting a wide array of organ systems,including cancer and embryological defects,and can even cause embryonic lethality.The complexity of this system and its interacting proteins have made Wnt signaling a target for many therapeutic treatments.however,both stimulatory and inhibitory treatments come with potential risks that need to be addressed.This review synthesized much of the current knowl-edge on the Wnt signaling pathway,beginning with the history of Wnt signaling.It thoroughly described the different variants of Wnt signaling,including canonical,noncanonical Wnt/PcP,and the noncanonical Wnt/ca2+pathway.Further description involved each of its components and their involvement in other cellular processes.Finally,this review explained the various other pathways and processes that crosstalk with Wnt signaling.

Boron carbide has unique properties for wide application possibilities;however,poor sinterability limits its applications.One approach to overcome this limitation is the addition of secondary phases into boron carbide.Boron carbide based composite ceramics are produced by the direct addition of secondary phases into the structure or via reactive sintering using a sintering additive.The present study investigated the effect of Ti_(3)Sic_(2) addition to boron carbide by reactive spark plasma sintering in the range of 1700-1900℃.Ti_(3)Sic_(2) phase decomposed at high temperatures and reacted with B4c to form secondary phases of TiB2 and Sic.The results demonstrated that the increase of Ti_(3)Sic_(2) addition(up to 15 vol%)effectively promoted the densification of B4c and yielded higher hardness.however,as the amount of Ti_(3)Sic_(2) increased further,the formation of microstructural inhomogeneity and agglomeration of secondary phases caused a decrease in hardness.

Photosynthetic Gas Exchange and Nitrogen Assimilation in Green Bean Plants Supplied with Two Sources of Silicon

Beans contain a wide range of vitamins,proteins,calcium,and zinc which make them an important food source for many countries.To meet the demand for bean production worldwide,large amounts of fertilizers and pesticides are used.however,the cost of production and environmental impact increases.To produce food sustainably,the use of beneficial nutrients such as silicon as a biostimulant has been proposed.however,information about the effect of different sources of silicon on the metabolism of bean plants is scarce.Bean plants cv.Strike were grown in pots for 60 days and the effect of foliar application of silicon nanoparticles and the silicon-based biostimulant codasilat 4 concentrations(0,1,2,and 4 mM)on total biomass,yield,photosynthetic pigment concentration,photosynthetic activity,stomatal conductance,transpiration rate,chlorophyll fluorescence,and nitrogen assimilation were evaluated.The results obtained showed that the supply of silicon at a dose of 1 mM functioned as a biostimulant,favoring gas exchange and nitrogen assimilation within the plant,which stimulated growth and yield.The results of this research work allowed a better comprehension of the effects of silicon application through silicon nanoparticles and the biostimulant codasilon the physiology of green bean plants.
