Th. North.Atlantic Ocean h.sts th. largest volume of global subtropical mode waters(STMWs) in th. world,wh.ch.serve as h.at,carbon and oxygen silos in th. ocean *** are formed in th. Gulf Stream region wh.re th.rmal fronts are pervasive and result in feedback with.th. ***,th.ir roles in STMW formation h.ve been *** eddy-resolving global climate simulations,we find th.t suppressing local frontal-scale ocean-to-atmosph.re(FOA) feedback leads to STMW formation being reduced almost by *** is because FOA feedback enlarges STMW outcropping,attributable to th. mixed layer deepening associated with.cumulative excessive latent h.at loss due to h.gh.r wind speeds and greater air-sea h.midity contrast driven by th. Gulf Stream *** enh.nced h.at loss oversh.dows th. stronger restratification induced by vertical eddies and turbulent h.at transport,making STMW colder and h. *** more realistic representation of FOA feedback,th. eddy-present/rich.coupled global climate models reproduce th. observed STMWs much.better th.n th. eddy-free *** improvement in STMW production cannot be ach.eved,even with.th. oceanic resolution solely refined but with.ut coupling to th. overlying atmosph.re in oceanic general circulation *** findings h.gh.igh. th. need to resolve FOA feedback to ameliorate th. common severe underestimation of STMW and associated h.at and carbon uptakes in earth.system mo dels.

Four field trials were conducted over a th.ee-year period (2011-2013) at various locations in Ontario to evaluate th. level of weed control provided by h.losulfuron applied PPI,PREor POST at 17.5, 35 and 70 g·ai·h.-1 in wh.te bean. h.losulfuron applied PPI or PRE at 17.5, 35 and 35 g·ai·h.-1 caused 2% or less visible injury 1 and 4 WAA in wh.te bean. h.wever, h.losulfuron applied POST at 17.5, 35 and 70 g·ai·h.-1 caused 2% - 8% and 1% - 3% wh.te bean injury at 1 and 4 WAA, respectively. Th.re was no decrease in wh.te bean seed yield relative to th. weed free ch.ck due to weed interference with.h.losulfuron applied PPI or PRE at doses evaluated, except wh.n applied PRE at 17.5 g·ai·h.-1 wh.ch.resulted in a decrease in seed yield of 25%. Weed interference caused a decrease in wh.te bean yield of 47%, 42% and 44%, wh.n h.losulfuron was applied POST at 17.5, 35 and 70 g·ai·h.-1, respectively. h.losulfuron applied PPI, PRE and POST controlled AMARE 92% - 100%, 85% - 99% and 47% - 75%;Ch.AL 95% - 100%, 83% - 99% and 36% - 51%;and SINAR 97% - 100%, 99% - 100% and 100%, respectively. h.losulfuron applied PPI and PRE reduced AMARE density 93% - 97% and 75% - 95%;Ch.AL density 89% - 98% and 81% - 93%;and SINAR density 99% - 100% and 99% - 100%, respectively. h.losulfuron applied PPI and PRE reduced dry weigh. of AMARE 96% - 98% and 86% - 96%;Ch.AL 96% - 98% and 87% - 93%;and SINAR 100% and 100%, respectively. h.losulfuron applied POST at rates evaluated reduced SINAR density and dry weigh. 100% but caused no significant reduction in AMARE and Ch.AL density or dry weigh. compared to th. weedy ch.ck. Based on th.se results, h.losulfuron applied PPI orPREat 35 g·ai·h.-1 can be used safely for th. control of selected broadleaf weeds in wh.te bean production.

Th. auth.rs propose new Bayesian models to obtain individual-level and time-varying regression coefficients in longitudinal data involving a single observation per response unit at each.time period. An application to explore th. association between customer satisfaction and sh.reh.lder value is included in th. paper. Th. Bayesian models allow th. flexibility of incorporating industry and firm factors in th. context of th. application to h.lp explain variations of th. regression coefficients. Results from th. analysis indicate th.t th. effect of customer satisfaction on sh.reh.lder value is not h.mogeneous over time. Th. proposed meth.dology provides a powerful tool to explore th. relationsh.p between two important business concepts.

Perceptions and Barriers to Contraceptive Use among Adolescents Aged 15 - 19 Years in Kenya: A Case Study of Nairobi

Even after th. launch.of family planning program in Kenya, in 1967, contraceptive use among adolescents h.s remained below 10 percent wh.le ch.ld bearing h.s increased from 2 percent at age 15 to 36 percent at age 19. To understand th. roles of perceptions and barriers on contraceptive use, a mixed meth.d study design was applied to a conceptual framework th.t operationalized th.se concepts using data from different sources of social interactions in Nairobi, Kenya. Quantitative data were collected from 1119 adolescents aged 15 - 19 years. Qualitative data were collected from adolescents, adolescents’ parents and th.ir sch.ol teach.rs. Th. later were analyzed and interpreted togeth.r with.th. results from cross-tabulations and logistic regression in order to understand th. roles of perceptions and barriers. Contraceptive use was found to be 8.6 percent among th. adolescents. Overall, unfavourable perceptions among adolescents, parents and teach.rs seemed to h.ve contributed to low contraceptive use. Unfavourable perceptions played greater role compared to barriers such.as sexual partner communication, opinion on adolescents to use a contraceptives and ability to seek contraceptives. Qualitative data sh.w th.t teach.rs and parents lack adequate information and skills to discuss sexuality issues. Linking data among adolescents, parents and teach.rs h.lp to understand th. roles of perceptions and barriers to contraceptive use in Kenya. Th. findings suggest capacity building of teach.rs and parents on accurate sexuality information for adolescents wh.le services sh.uld be youth.friendly.

Th.re is little information on th. tolerance of dry bean to pendimeth.lin. Field studies were conducted in 2007 to 2009 at Exeter, Ontario and in 2008 and 2009 at Ridgetown, Ontario to evaluate tolerance of black, cranberry, kidney, otebo, pink, pinto, Small Red Mexican and wh.te bean to th. pendimeth.lin applied preplant incorporated at 1080 and 2160 ***-1. Pendimeth.lin PPI caused minimal injury in most market classes of dry bean at 1 and 2 WAE. Th.re was no injury in various market classes of dry bean with.th. low dose at 1 and 2 weeks after emergence (WAE). h.wever, at th. h.gh.dose th.re was 0 to 4% injury at 1 WAE and 0 to 7% injury at 2 WAE in black, cranberry, kidney, otebo, pink, pinto, SRM and wh.te bean. Pendimeth.lin PPI was more injurious in wh.te bean th.n in black, cranberry, kidney, otebo, pink, pinto and SRM bean. Pink and SRM bean exh.bited th. most tolerance to pendimeth.lin applied PPI at 1080 ***-1 or 2160 ***-1. Pendimeth.lin caused no adverse effect on plant h.igh., sh.ot dry weigh., seed moisture content and seed yield of black, cranberry, kidney, otebo, pink, pinto, SRM and wh.te bean. Based on th.se results, th.re is an adequate margin of crop safety for pendimeth.lin applied PPI at th. proposed dose of 1080 ***-1 in black, cranberry, kidney, otebo, pink, pinto, SRM and wh.te bean in Ontario.

Samarium doped Yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) nanopowders with.different concentration (0.5%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 5% and 8% mol) were prepared by simple and low cost co-precipitation meth.d. We found th.t th. precursor begins converting to pure YAG at relatively low temperature around 900°C, and no intermediate ph.ses were detected. Th. powders annealed at 900°C and 1000°C in air with.average particle size around ≈30 nm were ch.racterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and infrared (IR) spectroscopy. Th. ph.toluminescent measurements sh.wed th.t th. reddish.orange (RO) emission transition 4G5/2:6h./2 is more prominent. In addition, th. optimum concentration of doped Sm ions th.t lead to maximum intensity was reported. Also, fluorescence efficiencies as pumping power dependence for different Sm3+ ions concentrations were explored.
