A functional tacrolimus-releasing nerve wrap for enhancing nerve regeneration following surgical nerve repair

Axonal regeneration following surgical nerve repair is slow and often incomplete,resulting in poor functional recovery which sometimes contributes to lifelong ***,there are no FDA-approved therapies available to promote nerve *** accelerates axonal regeneration,but systemic side effects presently outweigh its potential benefits for peripheral nerve *** authors describe herein a biodegradable polyurethane-based drug delivery system for the sustained local release of tacrolimus at the nerve repair site,with suitable properties for scalable production and clinical application,aiming to promote nerve regeneration and functional recovery with minimal systemic drug *** is encapsulated into co-axially electrospun polycarbonate-urethane nanofibers to generate an implantable nerve wrap that releases therapeutic doses of bioactive tacrolimus over 31 *** and drug loading are adjustable for applications in small and large caliber nerves,and the wrap degrades within 120 days into biocompatible *** released from the nerve wrap promotes axon elongation in vitro and accelerates nerve regeneration and functional recovery in preclinical nerve repair models while off-target systemic drug exposure is reduced by 80%compared with systemic *** its surgical suitability and preclinical efficacy and safety,this system may provide a readily translatable approach to support axonal regeneration and recovery in patients undergoing nerve surgery.

Local convective heat Transfer from Small heaters to Impinging Submerged Axisymmetric Jets of Seven coolants with Prandtl Number Ranging from 0.7 to 348

Using seven working fluids, a systematic experimental study was performed to investigate the local convective heat transfer from vertical heaters to impinging circular submerged jets in the range of Reynolds number between 1.17 ×102 and 3.69 × 104 with the emphasis placed on the examination of Prandtl number dependence. heat transfer coefficiellts at the stagnation point were collected and correlated with the plate held within and beyond the potential core. Radial distribution of the local heat transfer coefficient was measured with five test liquids. Based on the measured profiles of the local heat transfer, a correlation was developed to cover the entire range of the radial distance. Besides the presellt data, the correlations developed in this work were also compared with a large quantity of available data of circular air jets. General agreement was observed between the air data and the correlat ions.

背景急性心肌梗死(AMI)是威胁全球公众健康的主要原因之一。虽然已有相应的再灌注治疗策略,但AMI相关的主要不良心脑血管事件(maccEs)仍然是全世界人口死亡的原因之一。尤其合并糖尿病的AMI患者,因冠状动脉病变复杂,病变程度严重,尽早发现和判断该部分患者远期预后相对困难,因此寻找相对简便、易获得的实验室指标,有利于为2型糖尿病(T2DM)合并AMI患者经皮冠状动脉介入(PcI)术后maccEs的预测提供依据。目的探讨血清c反应蛋白(cRP)/白蛋白(Alb)比值(cAR)对T2DM合并AMI患者PcI术后远期maccEs的预测价值。方法纳入2014—2019年就诊于宁夏医科大学总医院心血管内科1683例T2DM合并AMI患者为研究对象,收集患者的一般临床资料与检查结果。对所有患者进行电话或门诊随访,以全因死亡、非致死性心肌梗死、再发不稳定型心绞痛、非致死性脑卒中、新发心力衰竭或心力衰竭加重再入院、再次血运重建作为maccEs。根据患者随访期间是否发生maccEs分为maccEs组(508例)和非maccEs组(1175例)。采用单因素及多因素Logistic回归分析探讨T2DM合并AMI患者maccEs事件的影响因素。采用Kaplan-Meier法绘制患者的生存曲线,生存曲线的比较采用Log-rank检验。采用受试者工作特征(ROc)曲线分析cAR对T2DM合并AMI患者远期发生maccEs的预测效能,使用净重分类改善指标(NRI)和综合判别指数(IDI)评价cAR对T2DM合并AMI患者预后评估的改善效果。结果1683例患者中508例(30.18%)患者发生maccEs。多因素Logistic回归分析显示高血压病[OR(95%cI)=1.994(1.142~3.483)]、冠状动脉植入支架长度[OR(95%cI)=1.031(1.002~1.062)]、cRP[OR(95%cI)=0.950(0.915~0.986)]、Alb[OR(95%cI)=0.933(0.880~0.989)]及cAR[OR(95%cI)=5.582(1.705~18.277)]是T2DM合并AMI患者PcI术后发生maccEs的影响因素(PcAR中位表达水平(0.86),将患者分为cARcAR≥0.86组,Log-rank检验结果显示,cAR≥0.86组maccEs发生率高于cARc曲线显示cAR预测T2DM合并AMI患者发生maccEs的ROc曲线下面积为0.728(95%cI=0.702~0.754),最佳截断值为0.576,灵敏度为0.617,特异度为0.747。在基线模型基础上,与cRP、Alb相比,cAR能明显改善对患者发生maccEs的预测效果(NRI=0.377,IDI=0.166,c指数=0.690;PcAR是T2DM合并AMI患者PcI术后远期maccEs发生风险的有效预测指标。

A mathematical model coupling the momentum, energy and species conservation equa-tions was proposed to calculate the macro--segregation of Fe--c alloy ingot during solid-ification. The corresponding simulation software which concurrently solves the macro-scopic mass, momentum, energy and species conservation equations has been developedby applying the SIMPLE algorithm.The thermo--solutal convection in a Nh_4 cl--h_2O ingot is verified and the result showsgood agreement with that reported. Then macro--segregation in a steel ingot is simu-lated by using the developed program. The steel ingot is in a rectangular mold with ariser. The fluid flow is mainly induced by the temperature field and the solid fraction.The macro--segregation pattern is mainly affected by the thermo--induced convectionin the mushy zone. The negative segregation forms along the walls of the casting.The positive segregation forms at the top center of the casting into the riser. Thespecies concentration reaches the peak in the center of the ingot where solidificationends lastly.

Experimental and Numerical Investigation of an End Plate connection with Using Long Shank Sma Bolts

Superelastic shape memory alloys( Smas) have the ability to recover their original shape after experiencing large strains. End-plate connection with using superelastic long shank Sma bolts is proposed in this paper. By using strong beam-weak bolt cluster design methodology and special configurations to strength beam ends,a superelastic hinge is expected to form in column flange. To validate the mechanical behavior of the proposed beam-to-column connection,both quasi-static tests and numerical analysis are conducted with cyclic transverse loads applied on the beam ends. The results indicate the connection deformations concentrate on the long shank Sma bolts upon loading and the bolt cluster rotates around the axis near beam flange. By using the super elastic effect,the Sma bolts recover most elongations and the connection recovers to its original shape after experiencing 0. 02 rad interstorey drift angle. The connection shows obvious self-centering properties.

cylinder-to-bed heat transfer in agitated fluidized beds was studied experimentally. In the experiments, the aluminum particles were used as bed material, the diameter of those ranged from 0.5 mm to 2 mm. The effects of gas velocity, particles size, and agitator rotary speed on heat transfer were studied. From the experimental results, we have come to the following conclusion: (1) there are optimal ranges for airflow velocity and rotary speed to get optimal heat transfer coefficient; (2) the cylinder-to-bed heat transfer is greatly affected by gas velocity, rotary speed and particles sizes, and the effect of rotary speed on heat transfer is similar to that of gas velocity; (3) higher heat transfer coefficient is obtained with smaller particles.

Using high-resolution transmission Kikuchi diffraction(TKD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM),we examined the hierarchical clusters that form in situ in the heat-affected zone(hAZ),which are com-monly referred to as“ghost”structures,of bimodal titanium alloy Ti-5Al-2Sn-2Zr-4Mo-4cr(wt%,Tc17).The ghost structures are enriched with Al elements but poor in Mo and cr compared to the surroundingβ*** results show that the ghost structure in middle-hAZ mainly consists ofα_(L)laths with a high-angle grain boundary,which exhibits the classic Burgers orientation relationship(BOR)with the host matrix,while it encircles theα_(P)grains in *** the ghost structure is evidenced to form via in-complete martensitic *** results further confirm that the ghost structure is composed ofαL and tinyβ_(L)laths with BOR,with the former being enriched with Al and poor with cr and Mo,while the latter is the ***,twoα_(L)variant clusters with a check-mark morphology are fre-quently observed viewed along[0001]_(αL)//[110]_(βL)directions,which are dominated by the crystallographic and geometrical relationships betweenαandβ*** on the microstructural characterization,it is hypothesized that the ghost structure is transformed from the initialα_(P)phase,due to the coupling ef-fect of high thermal stress(which induces the formation of a large number of dislocations)and element diffusion caused by sudden temperature increase and plunge cooling in the hAZ during the welding pro-cess.

Studies on Different hydrolysis Procedures for Drugs of Abuse in hair

Different hydrolysis and extraction procedures have been studied for the determination of drugs of abuse in hair samples. The results showed that acid and enzymatic hydrolysis gave high extraction recoveries for 6-monoacetylmorphine, morphine, codeine and heroin. Enzymatic hydrolysis was more expensive. After alkaline hydrolysis, 6-monoacetylmorphine, a unique proof of heroin abuse, could not be detected and after methanolic extraction, the extract was dirty and the obtained chromatogram showed an interfering background. It is concluded that acid hydrolysis is the extraction method of choice.

Mixing and Recirculation characteristics of A Double concentric Burner with Bluff-Body

The concentric bluff-body jet burner is widely used in industrial combustion *** kind of burner often generates a considerably complex recirculation zone behind the bluff *** a result, the fuel often remains in the recirculation zone,achieving stability of *** study investigates, by means of experiments,the variations of the aerodynamics as the fluid is injected into a combustion chamber through a double concentric burner with a *** observation and measurement of the aerodynamics in our experiment are conducted under a cold *** controlled parameters in our experiment are:variations in the blockage ratio of the center bluff body,the cone angle of the bluff body,and the velocity ratio(U_s/U_p)of the secondary jet and primary jet;the injection of helium bubbles into the primary and secondary jets to observe the recirculation zone behind the bluff body;using Tufts for observing the characteristics of corner recirculation zone in a combustion chamber,measuring the average velocity of each point within the aerodynamics by the 5-hole pitot tube;measuring the distribution of static pressure of the combustion chamber walls with a static pressure tap.
