Cadaveric liver transplantation for non-acetaminophen fulminant hepatic failure:A 20-year experience

AIM: To investigate the long-term results of liver transplantation (lT) for non-acetaminophen fulminant hepatic failure (FhF). METhODS: Over a 20-year period, 29 FhF patients underwent cadaveric whole lT. Most frequent causes of FhF were hepatitis B virus and drug-related (not acetaminophen) liver failure. All surviving patients were regularly controlled at the out-patient clinic and none was lost to follow-up. Mean follow-up was 101 mo. reSUlTS: One month, one-, five- and ten-year patient survival was 79%, 72%, 68% and 68%, respectively. One month, one-, five- and ten-year graft survival was 69%, 65%, 51% and 38%, respectively. Six patients needed early (retransplantation, four for primary non-function, one for early acute refractory rejection because of ABO blood group incompatibility, and one for a malignant tumor found in the donor. Two patients with hepatitis B FhF developed cerebral lesions peri-transplantion: One developed irreversible and extensive brain damage leading to death, and one suffered from deep deficits leading to continuous medical care in a specialized institution. CONClUSION: long-term outcome of patients transplanted for non-acetaminophen FhF may be excellent. As the quality of life of these patients is also particularly good, lT for FhF is clearly justified, despite lower graft survival compared with lT for other liver diseases.

Internet-based process control is becoming new generations of control systems, in which the Internet is used as a platform for global remote monitoring and control. The obvious benefit is to enable global collaboration between operators from geographically dispersed locations, data sharing and data provision for remote monitoring and control. however, connection to an open network and the use of universal technology present new problems that did not exist with the conventional design and construction of control systems, such as time delay and data loss in Internet transmission and security. This paper reviews the latest research results and presents design guidance of Internet based monitoring and control systems.

This study analyzes the level of total and bound pirimiphos-methyl residues in treated wheat grain and its toxic effects on *** grain was treated with[(14)~C]pirimiphos-methyl of 16.36 mCi/mmol specific activity to determine the bioavailability of bound residues in *** the same time,grain was treated with nonlabeled pirimiphos-methyl as required to determine any possible toxic effects of bound residues in a subacute feeding study in *** dose levels were used:10 and 100 ppm(the former being the recommended dose level in practical treatment). A new space era is bringing deployments of thousands of networked assets in near-Earth and ***-Tolerant networking(DTN)protocols and algorithms such as Contact Graph Routing(CGR)are state-of-the-art technologies certainly capable of achieving this ambitious ***,in this paper,we highlight and analyze the roots of current scalability limits of CGR,to then propose more efficient *** particular,we leverage a different graph modeling approach that enables optimizations such as priority queues and spanning-tree searches in the core route determination *** such abstract data types are difficult to adapt to CGR,we incorporate them into a novel Shortest-Path Tree Approach for Routing in Space networks(SPSN),which is presented as a compute-efficient *** paper thoroughly describes the SPSN approach including route object modeling,capacity-oriented search,and potential route management *** evaluations analyzed in this paper present significant evidence that SPSN outperforms legacy CGR in more than an order of magnitude in contact plans comprising thousands of contacts.

The objective of the present study was to identify dietary parameters for predicting body weight change (ΔBW) in Mexican-born women (Mexicans) following immigration to Quebec City, Canada. Methods: Changes in fruit (ΔF), vegetable (ΔV), fruit and vegetable (ΔFV), and fat (ΔFat) intake were assessed according to post-immigration periods (1-5 years, 6-10 years, 11-20 years) using a food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Anthropometric measures were also conducted in 87 Mexicans (study group) and 88 native-born Quebecers (comparison group) aged 18-65 years. Associations were calculated using full and partial robust regression models adjusting for potential confounders (origin, education, income, age, length of residence in Quebec City). results: There was no difference in ΔBW between the groups. Body weight (BW) increased significantly in both Mexican (5.5 ± 0.9 kg, P ly correlated with ΔFat (β = 0.03, P = 0.003), but not correlated with origin, ΔF, or ΔV. ΔBW was negatively associated with education (β = –4.33, P = 0.007) and positively associated with length of residence (β = 0.3, P = 0.003). Partial models indicated ΔF (β = –1.35, P β = –1.04, P = 0.0001), and ΔFV (β = –2.27, P re associated with origin, whereas net annual household income (β = 0.16, P = 0.04) was positively associated with ΔFat. Conclusions: Change in body weight could be predicted by length of residence, education, and change in fat intake in Mexican immigrant women and native-born Quebecers whereas changes in fruit and vegetable intakes could be predicted by Mexican or Quebec origin.

Aim: The goal is to simulate different stages of the endovascular procedure in the preoperative phase. Methods: We have developed a numerical model of the endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) using finite element analysis (FEA), we took into account the geometry of the biological region reconstructed from scans, a local characterization of the guidewire/catheter mechanical properties, a mapping of material properties depending on the degree of calcification, a real behavior of the vascular walls, and a projection of the aorta environment. results: Our results present the endovascular system navigation from the femoral artery to the neck of the aneurysm, predict the deformation of femoral, iliac and aortic arteries while driving flexible and stiff endovascular devices, and detect stress concentration due to tortuous and calcified artery zones. A given group of patients with very angulated and calcified arteries were validated, based on a tuning between clinical data and our endovascular simulation. Conclusion: Our model allows controlling with accuracy the delivery system rise during surgery, predicting the feasibility of the surgery with reliability as well as choose the best guide for each patient, taking into account the risk of rupture of calcified areas in the case of high angulations, and using planning simulated images with deformation of artery walls to propose stent sizing.
