Effects of a soybean milk product on feto-neonatal development in rats

Since estrogenic pollutants and phytoestrogens can cause the disorder of the reproductive system, the effects of a soybean milk product（Vegemil^（？） containing 162 ppm isoflavones） on the feto-neonatal development, including male reproductive function, were investigated. Pregnant rats were fed the soybean milk（5% or 100% in drinking water）from gestational day（GD） 6 to parturition or to post-natal day（PND） 56. Specifically, the rats were divided into 4 groups： the control group（drinking water）, the GD5% group（5% soybean milk during only the GD period）, the GDPND5% group（5% soybean milk during the GD and PND periods）, and the GD-PND100% group（100% soybean milk instead of water during the GD and PND periods）. During the gestational, lactational, and developmental periods, the reproductive and developmental parameters of dams and offspring were observed. Feeding soybean milk did not affect the birth and physical development of both male and female offspring. At PND57, the weights of the testes and epididymides of F1 males significantly increased by feeding a high concentration of the soybean milk（GDPND100%）. In addition, feeding of the soybean milk during both the GD and PND periods（GD-PND5% and GDPND100%） enhanced the sperm counts and motility. The results indicate that soybean milk is safe for embryos,fetuses, and offspring, and improves the post-generational development of male reproductive function.

Background: Controlled-release oxycodone/naloxone(OXN-CR) maintains the effect of opioid-induced analgesia through oxycodone while reducing the occurrence rate of opioid-induced constipation through naloxone. The present study was designed to assess the non-inferiority of OXN-CR to controlled-release oxycodone(OX-CR) for the control of cancer-related pain in Korean ***: In this randomized, open-labeled, parallel-group, phase IV study, we enrolled patients aged 20 years or older with moderate to severe cancer-related pain [numeric rating scale(NRS) pain score ≥4] from seven Korean oncology/hematology centers. Patients in the intention-to-treat(ITT) population were randomized(1:1) to OXNCR or OX-CR groups. OXN-CR was administered starting at 20 mg/10 mg per day and up-titrated to a maximum of80 mg/40 mg per day for 4 weeks, and OX-CR was administered starting at 20 mg/day and up-titrated to a maximum of 80 mg/day for 4 *** primary efficacy endpoint was the change in NRS pain score from baseline to week4, with non-inferiority margin of-1.5. Secondary endpoints included analgesic rescue medication intake, patientreported change in bowel habits, laxative intake, quality of life(QoL), and safety ***: Of the ITT population comprising 128 patients, 7 with missing primary efficacy data and 4 who violated the eligibility criteria were excluded from the efficacy analysis. At week 4, the mean change in NRS pain scores was not significantly different between the OXN-CR group(n = 58) and the OX-CR group(n = 59)(-1.586 vs.-1.559,P = 0.948). The lower limit of the one-sided 95% confidence interval(-0.776 to 0.830) for the difference exceeded the non-inferiority margin(P < 0.001). Performances of Volume-PTV and Tomo-PIV

We constructed a volume particle-tracking velocimetry (Volume-PTV) algorithm for comparisons with the tomographic particle image velocimetry (Tomo-PIV) algorithm, in which the multiplicative algebraic reconstruction technique (MART) was adopted. Performance tests on both algorithms were conducted by using artificial images generated through numerical data sets. Standard data on an impinging jet were used to test the Volume-PTV algorithm, whereas ring vortex data were used to test the Tomo-PIV algorithm. The influence of the number of particles (particle density in volume) on the key factors of Volume-PTV, such as particle movements and particle neighborhoods, were investigated. Furthermore, the effects of particle density and sizes onto the recovery ratio of the vectors were evaluated.

Recently,ultra-precision polishing processes using smart materials such as magnetorheological(MR)fluids have been used for optics parts such as aspheric *** MR fluid applied in MR polishing is a phase controllable suspension comprising a mixture of CI particles and non-magnetic fluids such as mineral oil and *** fluids are a kind of smart material that can be controlled according to their flow properties such as viscosity and stiffness. Water-based MR fluids are easily oxidized if the fluids are exposed and this oxidation can bring irregular polishing results. Also,this phenomenon is one of several factors that reduce the life time of MR *** a previous work,CI particles were coated with a polymer or a composite for the improvement of dispersion stability and prevention of corrosion due to *** this study,the rheological properties such as viscosity and sedimentation of coated CI particles with silica were investigated with a rotational rheometer;MR polishing characteristics of BK7 glass were studied in order to investigate the surface *** wheel speed and magnetic field intensity were chosen as variables.

AIM: To examine the potency of 1,2,3,4,6-penta-O-galloyl-β-D-glucose (PGG) as a hepatic heme oxygen-ase-1(HO-1) inducer and its regulation in HepG2 cells. METHODS: Expression of HO-1 and NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and activation of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases were analyzed by Western blot, immuno-fluorescence assay, and flow cytometry. Transfections of HO-1 gene, small interfering RNAs for HO-1 and Nrf2, and dominant-negative gene for MAP/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) were carried out to dissect the signaling pathways leading to HO-1 expression in HepG 2 cells. RESULTS: PGG up-regulated HO-1 expression and this expression conferred cytoprotection against oxidative injury induced by t-butyl hydroperoxide. Moreover, PGG induced Nrf2 nuclear translocation, which was found to be an upstream step of PGG-induced HO-1 expression, and ERK activation, of which pathway was involved in PGG-induced Nrf2 nuclear translocation, HO-1 expression and cytoprotection. CONCLUSION: PGG up-regulates HO-1 expression by stimulating Nrf2 nuclear translocation in an ERK-depen-dent manner, and HO-1 expression by PGG may serve as one of the important mechanisms for its hepatoprotective effects.

In multicellular organisms, controlling the timing and extent of asymmetric cell divisions （ACDs） is crucial for correct patterning. During post-embryonic root development in Arabidopsis thaliana, ground tissue （GT） maturation involves an additional ACD of the endodermis, which generates two different tissues： the endo- dermis （inner） and the middle cortex （outer）. It has been reported that the abscisic acid （ABA） and gibberellin （GA） pathways are involved in middle cortex （MC） formation. However, the molecular mechanisms under- lying the interaction between ABA and GA during GT maturation remain largely unknown. Through transcriptome analyses, we identified a previously uncharacterized C2H2-type zinc finger gene, whose expression is regulated by GA and ABA, thus named GAZ （GA- AND ABA-RESPONSIVE ZINC FINGER）. Seedlings ectopically overexpressing GAZ （GAZ-OX） were sensitive to ABA and GA during MC formation, whereas GAZ-SRDX and RNAi seedlings displayed opposite phenotypes. In addition, our results indicated that GAZ was involved in the transcriptional regulation of ABA and GA homeostasis. In agreement with pre- vious studies that ABA and GA coordinate to control the timing of MC formation, we also confirmed the unique interplay between ABA and GA and identified factors and regulatory networks bridging the two hor- mone pathways during GT maturation of the Arabidopsis root.

采用中性盐沉淀、凝胶层析等常规方法纯化黄粉虫Tenebrio molitor血淋巴中的β-1,3-葡聚糖识别蛋白,并对其在酚氧化酶原激活系统中的作用进行了初步的研究。结果表明:黄粉虫血淋巴的β-1,3-葡聚糖识别蛋白的分子量约为70kDa,主要分布于血浆中。纯化的β-1,3-葡聚糖识别蛋白只能特异性地识别β-1,3-葡聚糖而不能识别肽聚糖。在β-1,3-葡聚糖所诱导的酚氧化酶原的激活过程中,随着酚氧化酶原激活程度的提高,内源性β-1,3-葡聚糖识别蛋白的含量逐渐减少。抗β-1,3-葡聚糖识别蛋白多克隆抗体对黄粉虫血淋巴中由β-1,3-葡聚糖所诱导的酚氧化酶活性起抑制作用,且该抑制作用呈现一种剂量依赖性的趋势。上述结果有助于深入了解β-1,3-葡聚糖对黄粉虫血淋巴酚氧化酶原激活系统的激活作用。

Influenza epidemics frequently and unpredictably break out all over the world,and seriously affect the breeding industry and human *** and live attenuated viruses have been used as protective vaccines but exhibit high risks for *** vaccines enjoy high biosafety and specificity but have a few weak points compared to inactivated virus or live attenuated virus vaccines,especially in low *** this study,we developed a new subunit vaccine platform for a potent,adjuvant-free,and multivalent *** ectodomains of hemagglutinins(HAs)of influenza viruses were expressed in plants as trimers(tHAs)to mimic their native *** in plant extracts were directly used without purification for binding to inactivated Lactococcus(iLact)to produce iLact-tHAs,an antigen-carrying bacteria-like particle(BLP).tHAs BLP showed strong immune responses in mice and chickens without ***,simultaneous injection of two different antigens by two different formulas,t^(HAH5N6+H9N2) BLP or a combination of t^(HAH5N6) BLP and t^(HAH9N2) BLP,led to strong immune responses to both *** on these results,we propose combinations of plant-based antigen production and BLP-based delivery as a highly potent and cost-effective platform for multivalent vaccination for subunit vaccines.

CIM Model Extension for Intelligent DAS of Smart Power Grid in Korea

The CIM （common information model） is an abstract information model that can be used to model an electrical network and various equipments used on the network. By using a common model, utilities and vendors can reduce their integration costs, which should allow more resources to be applied toward increased functionality for managing and optimizing the electrical system. As a part of smart grid, the SPG （smart power grid） was built on Jeju Island. The SPG consists of IDAS （intelligent distribution automation system）, substation automation system, intelligent transmission system, and active telemetrics system. To integrate these systems which have different operating systems and platforms CIM standard was used. But IDAS has many functions and advanced algorithms not defined in CIM. In this paper, the authors introduce how to develop and extend the CIM model for managing the IDAS.

A Hybrid Structure of Dual Stators and a Pneumatic Spring for Resonance Control in an Air Mount

An active device using electromagnetic forces was constructed and examined for the purpose of minimizing the resonance in air mounts of clean rooms. The air mounts are vulnerable to low-frequency resonance due to heavy weight and low stiffness. A hybrid structure of the active device, composed of pneumatic and electromagnetic parts, was developed and tested. The pneumatic parts in the device support heavy weights under the air mounts, and the electromagnetic parts reduce the resonance. The electromagnetic parts are composed of dual stators and an armature, which surround the pneumatic parts. The resonance can decrease when electromagnetic forces are generated in the gaps between the stators and the armature. Four active devices were installed under a 3-ton surface plate for a vibration test apparatus. The vibration was detected by eddy-current sensors. Discrete P Control logic was based on displacement, and embedded in a C6713 DSP. The results from impact tests show that the peak magnitude in the resonance frequency can be reduced to –10 dB.
