Duplex stainless steels are being used on applications that require,especially,high corrosion resistance and overall good mechanical properties,such as the naval and oil-gas exploration *** components employed in these industries are usually obtained by machining,however,these alloys have low machinability when compared to conventional stainless *** this work,a study of the wear developed when milling duplex stainless-steel,LDX 2101,is going to be presented and evaluated,employing four types of milling tools with different geometries and coatings,while studying the influence of feed rate and cutting length in the wear of these *** used have been provided with two and four flutes,as well as three different coatings,namely:TiAlN,TiAlSiN and *** cutting behavior of these tools was analyzed;data relative to the cutting forces developed during the process were obtained;and roughness measurements of the machined surfaces were *** tools were then submitted to scanning electron microscope(SEM)analysis,enabling the identification of the wear mechanisms that tools were subjected to when machining this material,furthermore,the early stages of these mechanisms were also *** this work was done with the goal of relating the machining parameters and cutting force values obtained,identifying,and discussing the wear patterns that were observed in the coating and tools after the milling tests,providing further information on the machining of these alloys.

Detection of Helicobacter pylori resistance to clarithromycin and fluoroquinolones in Brazil:A national survey

AIM To evaluate bacterial resistance to clarithromycin and fluoroquinolones in Brazil using molecular *** The primary antibiotic resistance rates of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) were determined from November 2012 to March 2015 in the Southern,South-Eastern,Northern,North-Eastern,and Central-Western regions of Brazil. Four hundred ninety H. pylori patients [66% female,mean age 43 years(range: 18-79)] who had never been previously treated for this infection were enrolled. All patients underwent gastroscopy with antrum and corpus biopsies and molecular testing using Geno Type Helico DR(Hain Life Science,Germany). This test was performed to detect the presence of H. pylori and to identify point mutations in the genes responsible for clarithromycin and fluoroquinolone resistance. The molecular procedure was divided into three steps: DNA extraction from the biopsies,multiplex amplification,and reverse hybridization. RESULTS Clarithromycin resistance was found in 83(16.9%) patients,and fluoroquinolone resistance was found in 66(13.5%) patients. There was no statistical difference in resistance to either clarithromycin or fluoroquinolones(P = 0.55 and P = 0.06,respectively) among the different regions of Brazil. Dual resistance to clarithromycin and fluoroquinolones was found in 4.3%(21/490) of patients. The A2147 G mutation was present in 90.4%(75/83),A2146 G in 16.9%(14/83) and A2146 C in 3.6%(3/83) of clarithromycin-resistant patients. In 10.8%(9/83) of clarithromycin-resistant samples,more than 01 mutation in the 23 S r RNA gene was noticed. In fluoroquinolone-resistant samples,37.9%(25/66) showed mutations not specified by the Geno Type Helico DR test. D91 N mutation was observed in 34.8%(23/66),D91 G in 18.1%(12/66),N87 K in 16.6%(11/66) and D91 Y in 13.6%(9/66) of cases. Among fluoroquinolone-resistant samples,37.9%(25/66) showed mutations not specified by the Geno Type Helico DR test. CONCLUSION The H. pylori clarithromycin resistance rate in Brazil is

The determination of available phosphorus(P)in soil is essential to the evaluation of the current fertility status,and therefore,for recommending the required phosphate fertilizers for the cultivation of *** mostly used extractants around the country are Mehlich-1(M-1)and anionic resins(AR)and mixed resins(MR).However,there are still controversies in relation to the method that should be used,due to of particularities of each ***,the main objectives of this work was to assess the applicability of films of binary combination between cellulose acetate(CA)biopolymer and calcinated layered double hydroxide(LDH-c),named CAF-LDH-c,as a new extractor of available P in *** this,two experiments were set *** the first one,sub-samples of an Oxisol layer 0-20 cm were used and submitted to increasing doses of total P(0,250,750 and 2,250 mg/dm3)in the form of monoammonium phosphate(MAP)at different incubation time(5,30,60 and 90 d).In the second experiment,samples of 20 soils from different origins and contents of available P were used with distinct chemical and physical *** analysis of available P by M-1,AR,MR,Mehlich-3(M-3)and CAF-LDH-c extractants was done in both *** efficiency of the extractants was evaluated by Pearson’s linear *** correlation between values of P extracted from soil in the first experiment was highly significant among all extraction methods used,including for *** the second experiment,CAF-LDH-c showed significant correlation(p<0.01)with M-1,M-3,AR and ***,the significant correlations of the extractant being tested(CAF-LDH-c)with those usually used indicates the possibility of this new method of routine laboratories for assessing the P availability of for the cultivation of crops.

AIM To study the differences in immune response and cytokine profile between acute liver failure and selflimited acute *** Forty-six patients with self-limited acute hepatitis(AH), sixteen patients with acute liver failure(ALF), and twenty-two healthy subjects were involved in this study. The inflammatory and anti-inflammatory products in plasma samples were quantified using commercial enzyme-linked immunoassays and quantitative real-time PCR. The cellular immune responses were measured by proliferation assay using flow cytometry. The groups were divided into viral- and non-viral-induced selflimited AH and ALF. Thus, we worked with five groups: Hepatitis A virus(HAV)-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(HAV-AH), HAV-induced ALF(HAV-ALF), nonviral-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(non-viral AH), non-viral-induced acute liver failure(non-viral ALF), and healthy subjects(HC). Comparisons among HAV and non-viral-induced AH and ALF were *** The levels of mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA) and the cytokines investigated [interleukin(IL)-6, IL-8, IL-10, interferon gamma, and tumor necrosis factor] were significantly increased in ALF patients, independently of etiology(P < 0.05). High plasma mt DNA and IL-10 were the best markers associated with ALF [mt DNA: OR = 320.5(95%CI: 14.42-7123.33), P < 0.0001; and IL-10: OR = 18.8(95%CI: 1.38-257.94), P = 0.028] and death [mt DNA: OR = 12.1(95%CI: 2.57-57.07), P = 0.002; and IL-10: OR = 8.01(95%CI: 1.26-50.97), P = 0.027]. In the cellular proliferation assay, NK^(bright), NKT and regulatory T cells(TReg) predominated in virusspecific stimulation in HAV-induced ALF patients with an anergic behavior in the cellular response to mitotic stimulation. Therefore, in non-viral-induced ALF, anergic behavior of activated T cells was not observed after mitotic stimulation, as expected and as described by the literature. Despite the advances in the hematology field, blood transfusion-related iatrogenesis is still a major issue to be considered during such procedures due to blood antigenic incompatibility. This places pluripotent stem cells as a possible ally in the production of more suitable blood products. The present review article aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the state-of-theart concerning the differentiation of both embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells to hematopoietic cell lines. Here, we review the most recently published protocols to achieve the production of blood cells for future application in hemotherapy, cancer therapy and basic research.

Sugarcane mosaic virus(SCMV)is the main etiological agent of sugarcane mosaic disease,which affects sugarcane and other grass *** the extensive characterization of quantitative trait loci controlling resistance to SCMV in maize,the genetic basis of this trait in sugarcane is largely ***,a genome-wide association study was performed and machine learning coupled with feature selection was used for genomic prediction of resistance to SCMV in a diverse sugarcane *** single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)explained up to 29.9%of the observed phenotypic variance and a 73-SNP set predicted resistance with high accuracy,precision,recall,and F1 scores(the harmonic mean of precision and recall).Both marker sets were validated in additional sugarcane genotypes,in which the SNPs explained up to 23.6%of the phenotypic variation and predicted resistance with a maximum accuracy of 69.1%.Synteny analyses suggested that the gene responsible for the majority of SCMV resistance in maize is absent in sugarcane,explaining why this major resistance source has not been identified in this ***,using sugarcane RNA-Seq data,markers associated with resistance to SCMV were annotated,and a gene coexpression network was constructed to identify the predicted biological processes involved in *** network allowed the identification of candidate resistance genes and confirmed the involvement of stress responses,photosynthesis,and the regulation of transcription and translation in resistance to *** results provide a practical marker-assisted breeding approach for sugarcane and identify target genes for future studies of SCMV resistance.

Objective: To communicate a minimally invasive technique for surgical handling of early-stage cervical cancer and its results. Methods: 110 patients with cervical cancer in stages IA2 and IB1, all of them operated in a period of 5 years in both hospitals, are presented. Laparoscopic systemic pelvic lymphadenectomy with radical vaginal hysterectomy or radical vaginal trachelectomy was performed to patients, with the exception of those patients who had compromised nodes detected in contemporary biopsy. Results: Between April 2008 and May 2013, 110 patients were submitted to this technique. 15 patients had their surgery aborted: 13 presented positive nodes for carcinoma in contemporary biopsy and 2 had extensive cervical compromise when performing radical vaginal hysterectomy or trachelectomy. Analysis of the remaining 95 cases shows an average age of 43.9 years (26 - 61), all of them had given birth before, 23 (21%) of them through C-section. BMI averaged 30.5 and 31 (28.2%) had cone surgery performed previously. Average duration of surgery was of 220 minutes. Postoperative hospitalization averaged 3.1 days. Bleeding volume was estimated at 125 cc and one patient required blood transfusion. En 25 patients’ uterine annexes were kept and all of them were suspended by means of laparoscopy. On average, 25.4 pelvic nodes were obtained. Complications 13.6% with eight patients suffered bladder injury, two had rectovaginal fistula, 3 patients requires surgical repair of ureteral obstruction, two patients present thromboembolic disease. The disease-free and overall survivals are consistent with reports in the literature. Conclusion: We believe that handling patients with this technique is possible and has the advantages of vaginal and laparoscopic surgery with minimal complications.
