The 17q12-21 locus harboring ORMDL sphingolipid biosynthesis regulator 3(ORMDL3)and Gasdermin B(GSDMB)genes exhibits one of the most significant and replicated associations with asthma[MIM:600807](Stein et al.,2018).Several studies explored the complex interactions between SNPs,gene expression and epigenetic modifications at this locus,primarily focusing on the levels of expressed ORMDL3 and GSDMB(Stein et al.,2018).Given that DNA methylation and gene expression signals are cell-type specific(Reinius et al.,2012),isolated materials such as lymphocytes from blood and,to a lesser extent,bronchial epithelial cells from biopsies of bronchi or bronchoalveolar lavages have been used in a number of studies to investigate such interactions(Stein et al.,2018).

An hourly wind analysis for the populated area of La Plata city (with high industrial, power station and vehicular activities) is presented and discussed. Euclidean distance and minimum covariance determinant (a robust correlation coefficient) are employed, as similarity approaches, in order to compare observed wind direction frequency patterns at two monitoring sites during 1998-2003. A preliminary assessment of two sectors, namely Sector 1 (NNW-N-NNE-NE) and Sector 2 (ENE-E-ESE), relevant for the transport of industrial air pollutants towards population exposed, is discussed taking variances into account and employing a locally weighted smoothing approach (LOESS). Both similarity approaches allowed gain insight of wind patterns. The distance approach showed good similarity between sites while the correlation approach showed an uneven picture depending on the wind direction. Most of the differences are explained in terms of the sea-land breeze effect but also differences in terrain roughness and data quality are taken into account. Winds from sectors 1 or 2 (analyzed during 1998-2009) may occur more than 50% of the time, most of the differences regarding the influence of the day and the season on these sectors are attributable to sea-land breeze phenomena. The LOESS proved to be appropriate to analyze the stability with time of both sectors and to discard possible remaining patterns;results are in accordance with studies that assess the interannual variability for different variables in La Plata river area. The robust correlation coefficient revealed, as an example, the linear character of dependence between winds from sector 2 and sulfur dioxide concentrations. Wind velocities and calms are also discussed.

Currently the soybean crop is affected by the white mold (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum). The disease can reduce the crop yield and quality and decrease the prices of agricultural lands. The aim of the current research was to assess epidemiology of white mold on soybean crop grown at Arapoti, PR, Brazil, utilizing data related to agricultural practices and local meteorological factors. The experiment was conducted in a naturally infested area. The soybean crop was sown on October 18th, 2011. The experimental design adopted herein was a randomized block in a factorial combination with 4 row spacings (0.35, 0.45, 0.60, 0.75 m) and 4 plant populations (150, 200, 250, 300 thousand plants per hectare) and 4 replications. The temporal analysis of the epidemic was evaluated using mathematical models, such as Logistics, Monomolecular and Gompertz, in order to determine the best model that described the progress of the disease as a function of local meteorological elements. For the incidence data it has been shown that both logistic and monomolecular models were those that were best fitted to the experimental data. For severity, the best model related to the experimental data was the logistic one. Either for incidence or for severity, air temperature was considered to be the environmental factor most affecting the progress of the disease. The variability in the apparent infection rates of white mold on soybean was not affected by different row spacings and plant populations;therefore, suggesting that macroclimatic variations prevailed in such a fashion to mitigate the effect of cultural practices adopted in the field.

We report a case of a 40-year-old woman, second pregnancy, previous cesarean section due to intrauterine growth restriction and placenta accreta spectrum disorders. She was 25 weeks gestational age, admitted to the hospital 25 weeks gestational age, diagnosed with fetal death. Initial conservative management attempt with uterine preservation progresses to complications requiring total hysterectomy followed by a rare outcome: pelvic thrombi with uterine necrosis, with its associated clinical complications.

Fever among Children with Sickle-Cell Disease: Findings from the General Pediatric Ward of the Owendo Pediatric Hospital in Libreville, Gabon

Sickle-cell disease (SCD) represents a substantial public health problem in Gabon. Fever is one of the principal reasons for the hospitalization of children afflicted by major sickle-cell disorder, since it can be a clinical reflection of severe infections that have the potential to become life threatening. Objectives: Identification of the main causes of fever in children with SCD in our clinical setting, with the aim of optimizing treatments. Patients and Methods: This is a retrospective study of all the medical files for children with SCD that were admitted to our ward, over a two year period, due to fever (>38.5°C) lasting more than 24 hours. Only those files that contained at least the following five fundamental medical examinations were retained for further evaluation: Complete Blood Count (CBC), blood smear, blood culture, urine culture and chest X-ray. Out of a total of 118 admissions (103 patients), 87 (73.7%) were due to the incidence of fever. The medical files of 11 patients were deemed to be unusable. Seventy-six episodes of fever were observed among 69 children, of which 42 were male and 27 female (sex ratio of 1.5). Among these, seven (10%) were admitted twice. Results: The age groups that were most affected included 12 - 18 year-olds (30 cases: 43.5%) and 6 - 12 year-olds (26 cases: 37.7%). The most common accompanying symptoms were bone and joint pain (43.4%), asthenia (22.4%), cough (19.7%), vomiting (17%) and headache (15.8%). The specific cause of the fever could not be pinpointed in 29 cases (38.1%). Aside from these cases, the main causes of fever were malaria (30.3%) and bronchopulmonary infections (22.4%). The white blood cell count was >20,000/mm3 in 47% of respiratory infections, 43.5% of the cases involving malaria and 55.2% of cases of fever with unknown cause. Objective: Although Angelica archangelica is a medicinal and aromatic plant with a long history of use for both medicinal and food purposes, there are no studies regarding the antineoplastic activity of its *** study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxicity and antitumor effects of the crude extract of A. archangelica root(CEAA) on breast ***: The cytotoxicity of CEAA against breast adenocarcinoma cells(4T1 and MCF-7) was evaluated by a 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay. Morphological and biochemical changes were detected by Hoechst 33342/propidium iodide(PI) and annexin V/PI staining. Cytosolic calcium mobilization was evaluated in cells staining with FURA-4 NW. Immunoblotting was used to determine the effect of CEAA on anti-and pro-apoptotic proteins(Bcl-2 and Bax, respectively).The 4 T1 cell-challenged mice were used for in vivo ***: Using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis, angelicin, a constituent of the roots and leaves of A. archangelica, was found to be the major constituent of the CEAA evaluated in this study(73 mg/mL). The CEAA was cytotoxic for both breast cancer cell lines studied but not for human fibroblasts. Treatment of 4 T1 cells with the CEAA increased Bax protein levels accompanied by decreased Bcl-2 expression, in the presence of cleaved caspase-3 and cytosolic calcium mobilization, suggesting mitochondrial involvement in breast cancer cell death induced by the CEAA in this cell line. No changes on the Bcl-2/Bax ratio were observed in CEAA-treated MCF7 cells. Gavage administration of the CEAA(500 mg/kg) to 4T1 cell-challenged mice significantly decreased tumor growth when compared with untreated ***: Altogether, our data show the antitumor potential of the CEAA against breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Further research is necessary to better elucidate the pharmacological application of the CEAA in breast cancer therapy.

数值模拟方法在煤矿开采领域的应用广泛，尤其在模拟复杂地质条件和多变力学环境方面，为预测围岩动态变化、应力分布以及开采活动可能引发的问题提供了重要研究手段。在煤层开采数值模拟研究中，煤岩层参数的准确设定是实现模拟精确性的关键。为给煤层开采数值模拟提供更为准确的参数设定参考，收集整理了中国一百余个矿井的上千条煤岩层数值模拟力学参数，通过MATLAB进行分类整理，构建了煤系地层数值模拟参数的取值参考数据集；基于该数据集，给出了各省份数据可信度权重设定与动态优化方法，并对不同地区煤系地层力学参数的差异性和分布规律进行了多维度数据分析，揭示了其在不同地质区域的分布特征和多样性。结果显示：山西、陕西和内蒙古等地区数据可信度权重较高，研究活动较为集中；煤层力学参数数据点主要集中在200至690米的埋深区间，呈现出一定的趋势和特点，体积模量、剪切模量、弹性模量以及内聚力等参数在实际应用中的差异性较大；不同岩性的统计分析表明，粉砂岩和细砂岩在研究中最为常见，各岩性在力学特性上的差异性明显，中砂岩在体积模量和弹性模量上分布最广，而石灰岩则在多个参数上表现出较高的稳定性。此外，通过对不同地区煤层与主要岩性模拟力学参数的分析，研发了煤系地层数值模拟力学参数取值范围参考与异常值检测系统，该a系统可以实现快速查询煤岩层力学参数取值、异常值检测以及自定义数据集导入分析等功能，以期为煤系地层数值模拟研究中力学参数的确定提供更为科学的参考依据与便捷的工具方法。

In this study,authors analyzed value,production and area used for producing Cerrado’s main agricultural products,and data on the farms located within this biome and registered in CAR up until April 2019,by *** territory considered here comprised all microregions with at least 25%of its area covered by the Cerrado *** production,agricultural production,and planted area values used were the averages of the 2015 to 2017 harvests,and are shown in graphs and tables,as are maps of planted areas and groups of main annual crops,semi-perennial and perennial *** areas designated for environmental preservation(ADPs)are the result of the sum of permanent preservation areas(APP),legal reserves(RL)and additional vegetation areas within the ***’study shows that most of Brazilian cotton,eucalyptus for charcoal,orange,sugarcane,maize and soybean are produced in Cerrado,that 28%of Cerrado are ADPs within farms,and that 16%are areas planted with cotton,eucalyptus,orange,sugarcane,maize,soybean,coffee,beans,and *** territory occupied by agricultural areas and ADPs required by the Brazilian Forest Code shows that agricultural production and environmental preservation do coexist,and gather the maintenance of essential ecosystem services provided by the ADPs together with the development of the country’s relevant agricultural production.

Short-Time Derivatization Method for Analysis of Abamectin in Water Using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography Coupled to Fluorescence Detector

A method using a short-time derivatization step for the assessment of abamectin in water is presented. Abamectin derivative stable up to 7 days was obtained. Some regions where orange crops are present have received abamectin doses, aiming to increase the productivity and to combat pests and weeds, even when its residues reach the aquatic environment and interfere on water quality. Water samples from Jacaré-Pepira River (Brotas City, Brazil) nearby orange crops around urban zone, were evaluated for the presence of abamectin. The analytical method was validated resulting recovery around 108%, precision of 12%, accuracy of 104%, correlation coefficient of 0.9945, and detection and quantification limits of 0.1 μg·L﹣1 and 0.2 μg·L﹣1, respectively. Stable abamectin derivative was reached after 60 min of derivatization at room temperature (25°C). No abamectin residues were found into samples.
