Mechanism of Diabatic Heating on Precipitation and the Track of a Tibetan Plateau Vortex over the Eastern Slope of the Tibetan Plateau

Existing studies contend that latent heating(LH)will replace sensible heating(SH)to become the dominant factor affecting the development of the Tibetan Plateau vortex(TPV)after it moves off the Tibetan Plateau(TP).However,in the process of the TPV moving off the TP requires that the airmass traverse the eastern slope of the Tibetan Plateau(ESTP)where the topography and diabatic heating(DH)conditions rapidly change.How LH gradually replaces SH to become the dominant factor in the development of the TPV over the ESTP is still not very clear.In this paper,an analysis of a typical case of a TPV with a long life history over the ESTP is performed by using multi-sourced meteorological data and model simulations.The results show that SH from the TP surface can change the TPV-associated precipitation distribution by temperature advection after the TPV moves off the TP.The LH can then directly promote the development of the TPV and has a certain guiding effect on the track of the TPV.The SH can control the active area of LH by changing the falling area of the TPV-associated precipitation,so it still plays a key role in the development and tracking of the TPV even though it has moved out of the main body of the TP.

BMP7 expression in mammalian cortical radial glial cells increases the length of the neurogenic period

The seat of human intelligence is the human cerebral cortex,which is responsible for our exceptional cognitive abilities.Identifying principles that lead to the development of the large-sized human cerebral cortex will shed light on what makes the human brain and species so special.The remarkable increase in the number of human cortical pyramidal neurons and the size of the human cerebral cortex is mainly because human cortical radial glial cells,primary neural stem cells in the cortex,generate cortical pyramidal neurons for more than 130 days,whereas the same process takes only about 7 days in mice.The molecular mechanisms underlying this difference are largely unknown.Here,we found that bone morphogenic protein 7(BMP7)is expressed by increasing the number of corti-cal radial glial cells during mammalian evolution(mouse,ferret,monkey,and human).BMP7 expression in cortical radial glial cells promotes neurogenesis,inhibits gliogenesis,and thereby increases the length of the neurogenic period,whereas Sonic Hedgehog(SHH)signaling promotes cortical gliogenesis.We demonstrate that BMP7 sign-aling and SHH signaling mutually inhibit each other through regulation of Gli3 repressor formation.We propose that BMP7 drives the evolutionary expansion of the mammalian cortex by increasing the length of the neurogenic period.

Fluorescent traceable nanoparticles by co-self-assembly of carbon dot-drug conjugate and biodegradable hyperbranched polymer for diagnosis and therapy

Carbon dots(CDs)have attracted more interest in tumor theranostics,but they suffer from the rapid renal clearance due to small size and high hydrophilicity.To solve such problems,hydrophobic pH-triggered carbon dot-drug conjugate(CDs-Hy-DOX)with high doxorubicin(DOX)content of 48.23%were designed by covalent conjugation of DOX onto the CDs via acid-labile linkage with hydrazine(Hy)as bridge.Then the fluorescent traceable hybrid prodrug nanoparticles were fabricated via co-self-assembly with the CDs-Hy-DOX as pH-sensitive prodrug and a pH/reduction dual-triggered degradable hyperbranched polymer PEG-PO-Cy as polyethylene glycol(PEG)-based surfactant,as well as gatekeeper for pH/reduction dual-triggered DOX release.The hybrid prodrug nanoparticles with hydrodynamic diameter of 220 nm and DOX content of 22.99%were obtained with the optimized co-self-assembling condition.They could release 68.98%of DOX in the simulated tumor microenvironment within 3 days in a sustained release mode,with a premature drug leakage of 7.58%.After the acid-triggered DOX release from the CDs-Hy-DOX,which was accelerated by the pH/reduction dual-triggered degradation of the hyperbranched polymer,the strong fluorescence of CDs-Hy was recovered,demonstrating the promising potential in future tumor nanotheranostics.

Molybdenum disulfide(MoS_(2))has garnered significant attention in the field of catalysis due to the high density of active sites in its unique two-dimensional(2D)structure,which could be developed into numerous high-performance catalysts.The synthesis of ultra-small MoS2 particles(<10 nm)is highly desired in various experimental studies.The ultra-small structure could often lead to a distinct S-Mo coordination state and nonstoichiometric composition in MoSx,minimizing in-plane active sites of the 2D structure and making it probable to regulate the atomic and electronic structure of its intrinsic active sites on a large extent,especially in MoSx clusters.This article summarizes the recent progress of catalysis over ultra-small undoped MoS_(2) particles for renewable fuel production.Through a systematic review of their synthesis,structural,and spectral characteristics,as well as the relationship between their catalytic performance and inherent defects,we aim to provide insights into catalysis over this matrix that may potentially enable advancement in the development of high-performance MoS_(2)-based catalysts for sustainable energy generation in the future.

Enhancement of catalytic activity for hydrogenation of nitroaromatic by anionic metal-organic framework

Nitroaromatic hydrogenation catalysis without precious metals remains a longstanding challenge.The rate of electron transfer is the crucial factor affecting hydrogenation catalysis.Herein,an ionic Cd-based metal-organic framework(I-Cd-MOF)exhibiting a unique structure with one-dimensional(1D)opening nanochannels and good electron transfer ability was synthesized for catalyzing hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol(4-NP).The catalytic activity of the unique I-Cd-MOF without noble metals is detected,which is higher than most reported noble metal catalysts.Remarkably,the reaction rate of I-Cd-MOF(4.28 min^(-1))is about 47.6 times higher than that of the Cd-based neutral MOF(N-Cd-MOF)with the similar crystalline structure.liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer(LC-MS)and theoretical results demonstrate that 4-NP and five intermediates are stabilized in the channels of I-Cd-MOF,which increases the possibility of contact with H^*and H_(2)g enerated at the Cd sites.The I-Cd-MOF was extended to other nitroaromatic hydrogenation catalysis,which still displays excellent activity.More importantly,the I-MOF@Filter membrane was successfully constructed for continuous hydrogenation catalytic reactions,which maintains a high catalytic performance after 7 cycles of recycling without washing.This work fills in the application of the I-MOFs in hydrogenation catalytic reactions and provides an effective way for the rapid and green degradation of nitroaromatic compounds.

Objective: Glioblastomas are highly vascularized malignant tumors. We determined the efficacy and safety of the anti-angiogenic multi-kinase inhibitor, anlotinib, for a newly diagnosed glioblastoma.Methods: This multicenter, single-arm trial（NCT04119674） enrolled 33 treatment-na?ve patients with histologically proven glioblastomas between March 2019 and November 2020. Patients underwent treatment with the standard STUPP regimen [fractionated focal irradiation in daily fractions of 1.8-2 Gy given 5 d/w × 6 w（total = 54-60 Gy）] or radiotherapy plus continuous daily temozolomide（TMZ）(75 mg/m2of body surface area/d, 7 d/w from the first to the last day of radiotherapy), followed by 6 cycles of adjuvant TMZ（150±200 mg/m2× 5 d during each 28-d cycle） plus anlotinib(8 mg/d on d 1±14 of each 3-w cycle for 2 cycles during concomitant chemoradiotherapy, 8 maximal cycles as adjuvant therapy, followed by maintenance at 8 mg/d. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival（PFS）. Secondary endpoints included overall survival（OS） and adverse events（AEs）.Results: Thirty-three patients received the planned treatment. The median PFS was 10.9 months（95% CI, 9.9±18.7 months） and the 12-month PFS rate was 48.5%. The median OS was 17.4 months（95% CI, 14.5±21.1 months） and the 12-month OS rate was 81.8%. The most common AEs included hypertriglyceridemia [58%（n = 19）], hypoalbuminemia [46%（n = 15）], and hypercholesterolemia [46%（n = 15）] during concurrent chemoradiotherapy and leukopenia [73%（n = 24）], hypertriglyceridemia [67%（n = 22）], and neutropenia [52%（n = 17）] during adjuvant therapy. Five patients discontinued treatment due to AEs. HEG1（HR, 5.6; 95% CI, 1.3±23.7; P = 0.021） and RP1L1 alterations（HR, 11.1; 95% CI, 2.2±57.2; P = 0.004） were associated with a significantly shorter PFS.Conclusions: Anlotinib plus the STUPP regimen has promising anti-tumor activity against glioblastoma and manageable toxicity. HEG1 and RP1L1 alterations might be novel predictive biomarkers of the response to anlotinib.

In a recent paper published in Nature Immunology,liu et al.described that the“writers”TRMT6/TRMT61A complex mediated transfer RNA(tRNA)m1A modification,facilitating competent translation of certain proteins fundamental to T-cell proliferation in an instant upon activation,1 demonstrating that tRNA m^(1)A methylation as a crucial translational checkpoint paves the way for novel immunotherapies to treat T-cell-related inflammation or cancer via manipulating the m^(1)A machinery.

Effect of Heat Treatment on the Wear Properties of Selective Laser Melted Ti–6Al–4V Alloy Under Different Loads

As is well known,titanium alloy precipitates when subjected to aging treatment,which poses great influence on its mechanical properties.Thus,solution and solution-aging treatments were conducted in this work,and the wear performance was investigated under diff erent normal loads.The results showed that acicularα′martensite in the original selective laser melted Ti–6 Al–4 V was decomposed intoα+βphases after the solution treatment,and then Ti;Al nanoparticles clusters were further formed in theα-matrix after the solution-aging treatment.The coefficient of friction decreased straightly as the normal load was increased from 20 to 100 N,and the wear mechanisms were characterized by abrasion,adhesive and oxidative wears.The wear rate of solution and solution-aging treated samples increased significantly comparing to the as-built counterpart,but the increment of the solution-aging treated sample was smaller than that of the solution-only treated sample,because of the Ti;Al precipitation in the solution-aging treated sample.These particles provided ball-like effect,reduced material losses and stabilized the wear process.All these factors contributed to the improvement in wear properties of the parts made by selective laser melting.

Changes in Typhoon Regional Heavy Precipitation Events over China from 1960 to 2018

In earlier studies,objective techniques have been used to determine the contribution of tropical cyclones to precipitation(TCP)in a region,where the Tropical cyclone Precipitation Event(TPE)and the Regional Heavy Precipitation Events(RHPEs)are defined and investigated.In this study,TPE and RHPEs are combined to determine the Typhoon Regional Heavy Precipitation Events(TRHPEs),which is employed to evaluate the contribution of tropical cyclones to regional extreme precipitation events.Based on the Objective Identification Technique for Regional Extreme Events(OITREE)and the Objective Synoptic Analysis Technique(OSAT)to define TPE,temporal and spatial overlap indices are developed to identify the combined events as TRHPE.With daily precipitation data and TC best-track data over the western North Pacific from 1960 to 2018,86 TRHPEs have been identified.TRHPEs contribute as much as 20%of the RHPEs,but100%of events with extreme individual precipitation intensities.The major TRHPEs continued for approximately a week after tropical cyclone landfall,indicating a role of post landfall precipitation.The frequency and extreme intensity of TRHPEs display increasing trends,consistent with an observed positive trend in the mean intensity of TPEs as measured by the number of daily station precipitation observations exceeding 100 mm and 250 mm.More frequent landfalling Southeast and South China TCs induced more serious impacts in coastal areas in the Southeast and the South during 1990-2018 than1960-89.The roles of cyclone translation speed and"shifts"in cyclone tracks are examined as possible explanations for the temporal trends.

Exercise training maintains cardiovascular health:signaling pathways involved and potential therapeutics

Exercise training has been widely recognized as a healthy lifestyle as well as an effective non-drug therapeutic strategy for cardiovascular diseases(CVD).Functional and mechanistic studies that employ animal exercise models as well as observational and interventional cohort studies with human participants,have contributed considerably in delineating the essential signaling pathways by which exercise promotes cardiovascular fitness and health.First,this review summarizes the beneficial impact of exercise on multiple aspects of cardiovascular health.We then discuss in detail the signaling pathways mediating exercise’s benefits for cardiovascular health.The exercise-regulated signaling cascades have been shown to confer myocardial protection and drive systemic adaptations.The signaling molecules that are necessary for exercise-induced physiological cardiac hypertrophy have the potential to attenuate myocardial injury and reverse cardiac remodeling.Exercise-regulated noncoding RNAs and their associated signaling pathways are also discussed in detail for their roles and mechanisms in exercise-induced cardioprotective effects.Moreover,we address the exercise-mediated signaling pathways and molecules that can serve as potential therapeutic targets ranging from pharmacological approaches to gene therapies in CVD.We also discuss multiple factors that influence exercise’s effect and highlight the importance and need for further investigations regarding the exercise-regulated molecules as therapeutic targets and biomarkers for CVD as well as the cross talk between the heart and other tissues or organs during exercise.We conclude that a deep understanding of the signaling pathways involved in exercise’s benefits for cardiovascular health will undoubtedly contribute to the identification and development of novel therapeutic targets and strategies for CVD.
