Effect of particle composition and consolidation degree on the wave-induced liquefaction of soil beds

The wave-induced liquefaction of seabed is responsible for causing damage to marine structures.Particle composition and consolidation degree are the key factors affecting the pore water pressure response and liquefaction behavior of the seabed under wave action.The present study conducted wave flume experiments on silt and silty fine sand beds with varying particle compositions.Furthermore,a comprehensive analysis of the differences and underlying reasons for liquefaction behavior in two different types of soil was conducted from both macroscopic and microscopic perspectives.The experimental results indicate that the silt bed necessitates a lower wave load intensity to attain the liquefaction state in comparison to the silty fine sand bed.Additionally,the duration and development depth of liquefaction are greater in the silt bed.The dissimilarity in liquefaction behavior between the two types of soil can be attributed to the variation in their permeability and plastic deformation capacity.The permeability coefficient and compression modulus of silt are lower than those of silty fine sand.Consequently,silt is more prone to the accumulation of pore pressure and subsequent liquefaction under external loading.Prior research has demonstrated that silt beds with varying consolidation degrees exhibit distinct initial failure modes.Specifically,a dense bed undergoes shear failure,whereas a loose bed experiences initial liquefaction failure.This study utilized discrete element simulation to examine the microscopic mechanisms that underlie this phenomenon.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),a common malignancy worldwide,still lacks effective clinical treatment.The study aimed to investigate the oncogenes that affect the progression of HCC and their possible mechanisms.In our study,we initially confirmed a higher level of PRDX2 in the bile of HCC patients compared to those with choledocholithiasis by 2-DE,LC-MS,and ELISA.Subsequently,we demonstrated the high expression of peroxiredoxin 2(PRDX2)in HCC based on the TCGA database and clinical sample analysis.Furthermore,PRDX2 overexpression enhanced the viability of HCC cells.And PRDX2 silencing induced senescence of HCC cells.In vivo,knockdown of PRDX2 significantly reduced the weight of xenograft tumors.PRDX2 also was found to activate the Wnt/β-catenin pathway by inducingβ-catenin nuclear translocation.Consequently,we proved that silencing PRDX2 could inhibit proliferation and Wnt/β-catenin pathway while promoting senescence in HCC cells.

The failure propagation of weakly stable sediment:A reason for the formation of high-velocity turbidity currents in submarine canyons

The long-distance movement of turbidity currents in submarine canyons can transport large amounts of sediment to deep-sea plains.Previous studies show obvious differences in the turbidity current velocities derived from the multiple cables damage events ranging from 5.9 to 28.0 m/s and those of field observations between 0.15 and 7.2 m/s.Therefore,questions remain regarding whether a turbid fluid in an undersea environment can flow through a submarine canyon for a long distance at a high speed.A new model based on weakly stable sediment is proposed(proposed failure propagation model for weakly stable sediments,WS S-PFP model for short)to explain the high-speed and long-range motion of turbidity currents in submarine canyons through the combination of laboratory tests and numerical analogs.The model is based on two mechanisms:1)the original turbidity current triggers the destabilization of the weakly stable sediment bed and promotes the destabilization and transport of the soft sediment in the downstream direction and 2)the excitation wave that forms when the original turbidity current moves into the canyon leads to the destabilization and transport of the weakly stable sediment in the downstream direction.The proposed model will provide dynamic process interpretation for the study of deep-sea deposition,pollutant transport,and optical cable damage.

The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology(TBSRTC):A report of 2,781 cases in a Chinese population

Objective:To evaluate the diagnostic utility of The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytology(TBSRTC)at Peking University Cancer Hospital,the incidence of noninvasive follicular thyroid neoplasms with papillary-like nuclear features(NIFTP),and the impact of reclassification on cytopathological outcomes.Methods:We performed a retrospective study of thyroid fine-needle aspiration(FNA)cases between April 2014 and March 2019.The FNA results were classified according to TBSRTC.Post-surgery histological findings were followed up.Results:A total of 2,781 thyroid FNAs were performed.The incidences of the 6 diagnostic categories(DCs I-VI)were 14.8%,17.1%,15.8%,2.3%,11.6%and 38.5%,respectively.A total of 1,122 patients(40.3%)had corresponding histological results.NIFTP accounted for 0.4%of papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC)cases,and there was no significant difference in the risk of malignancy(ROM)for each TBSRTC DC between"NIFTP=carcinoma(Ca)"and"NIFTP≠Ca".When"NIFTP=Ca",the sensitivity,specificity,positive predictive value(PPV),negative predictive value(NPV),and accuracy of TBSRTC were 98.0%,84.0%,99.4%,58.3%,and97.5%,respectively.When"NIFTP≠Ca",the sensitivity,specificity,PPV,NPV and accuracy of the TBSRTC were 98.1%,81.5%,99.3%,61.1%,and 97.5%,respectively.Conclusions:TBSRTC is effective in the preoperative diagnosis of thyroid nodules in Peking University Cancer Hospital.The impact of the reclassification of NIFTP on cytopathological outcomes is limited because of its low incidence,and the revised ROMs are not suitable for Asian patients.

Meta‑analysis of the Association between Serotonin Transporter Polymorphisms and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

The serotonin transporter(5‑HTT)gene has been considered one of the risk factors for sudden infant death syndrome(SIDS),but the association remains unconfirmed.This meta‑analysis was performed to quantitatively summarize the evidence for such a relationship.PubMed,EMBASE,and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were searched for eligible studies within a range of published years from 1990 to December 2015.The odds ratios(ORs)with 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were used to assess the different associations.A total of 8 studies with 624 cases and 796 controls were included for 5‑HTT promoter polymorphism,5 studies with 418 cases and 542 controls for intron 2,and 3 studies with 253 cases and 334 controls for haplotype.The pooled examinations showed an overall increased SIDS risk for the 5‑HTT promoter polymorphism(OR=1.65,95%CI=1.03–2.63,P=0.035 for LL vs.LS and SS;OR=1.46,95%CI=1.04–2.04,P=0.028 for L vs.S),but no association(OR=1.00,95%CI=0.75–1.33,P=0.994 for 10+9 carriers vs.12/12;OR=0.97,95%CI=0.79–1.19,P=0.753 for 10+9 vs.12)for intron 2 polymorphism,and an unreliable association(OR=0.52,95%CI=0.31–0.87,P=0.013)for S‑9 and S‑10 haplotypes.This meta‑analysis suggests that the L allele or LL homozygote of 5‑HTT promoter polymorphism has an increased risk for SIDS,while intron 2 polymorphism has no association with SIDS.

Dear Editor,Lymphoma is a systemic malignancy originating from the lymphatic system,and it accounts for 3–4%of all tumors.In the United States,lymphoma is ranked 5th among the top causes of cancer deaths,and an estimated 80,500 new cases were diagnosed in 2017.1 Successful treatment relies largely on the correct diagnosis and subclassification of lymphoma in surgically excised biopsies based on cell morphology,immunophenotyping,flow cytometry,in situ fluorescent hybridization,and molecular diagnosis.However,the ability to distinguish between reactive lymphoid hyperplasia(RLH)and lymphoma is not an easy task.In routine pathology practice,lymph nodes in formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded(FFPE)sections show reactive changes more frequently than malignant features.Complicating the analysis,many reactive changes display atypical features and often mimic lymphoma,making these benign changes difficult to distinguish from malignant changes.2 New biomarkers that will address this challenge are urgently needed in clinical practice.

Two Kinds of Waves Causing the Resuspension of Deep-Sea Sediments:Excitation and Internal Solitary Waves

The resuspension of marine sediments plays a key role in the biogeochemical cycle and marine ecology system.Internal solitary waves are considered to be important driving forces of the resuspension of bottom sediments.In this paper,the movement of turbidity currents,the generation and the effects on the bottom bed of internal solitary waves and excitation waves are studied by flume tests and numerical simulations,and the sediment resuspension are analyzed.The results show that the excitation wave can lead to the resuspension of the bottom sediments under all the conditions,while the internal solitary wave can lead to the resuspension of the sediment only under some special conditions,such as high amplitude or large underwater slope.Under the experimental conditions,the change in the near-bottom velocity caused by the excitation wave is close to three times that of the internal solitary wave.

Evaluation of the Clinical Efficacy of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Combined with Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation on Cognitive Function and Sleep Disorders in Patients with Mild Vascular Dementia

Objective:To explore the clinical effects of acupuncture and repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation in patients with mild vascular dementia.Method:From May 2020 to May 2021,40 patients with mild vascular dementia in Harbin Fourth Hospital(our hospital)were divided into the experimental group(20 cases,using conventional drugs+acupuncture+repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation)and the control group(20 cases,for example,the application of conventional medication).The improvement of cognitive function score,sleep quality score,quality of life score,and cerebral hemodynamics before and after treatment were compared between the two groups.Result:Before treatment,the difference in cognitive function score,sleep quality score,quality of life score,and cerebral hemodynamic index between the two groups of patients did not form,that is,p>0.05;after treatment,the experimental group5s cognitive function score was(19.45±2.47)points,Sleep quality score(12.18±2.09),quality of life score(33.29±4.08),left cerebral blood flow velocity(65.76±3.32)cm/s,right cerebral blood flow velocity(64.32±3.25)cm/s,more For the control group,P<0.05・Conclusion:In the clinical treatment of patients with mild vascular dementia,based on conventional drugs,combined with acupuncture and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation,the patients?cognitive function can be improved,and the quality of sleep and quality of life can be improved.Comprehensive clinical promotion.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the application value of breast dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging combined with time signal curve in diagnosis of early breast cancer. Methods: Conducted dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI and drew the time signal curves of breast lesions in 60 patients with breast disease (malignant 46, benign 14). Results: Morphological features of malignant tumors mostly showed blurred or thin spiculate outlines, irregular shape or lobular signs, signal heterogeneity or peripheral enhancement in dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI. Time signal curve showed type Ⅲ or Ⅱ. Morphologic features of benign tumors mostly showed clear edge, regular shape and homogeneous signal, or diffuse spot enhancement. Time signal curve showed type Ⅰ or Ⅱ. Conclusion: breast dynamic contrast enhanced scan in MRI can provide morphology and functional diagnosis information of the breast tissues. Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI combined with time signal curve can further improve the accuracy of diagnosis of early breast cancer.
