The wave-induced liquefaction of seabed is responsible for causing damage to marine *** composition and consolidation degree are the key factors affecting the pore water pressure response and liquefaction behavior of the seabed under wave *** present study conducted wave flume experiments on silt and silty fine sand beds with varying particle ***,a comprehensive analysis of the differences and underlying reasons for liquefaction behavior in two different types of soil was conducted from both macroscopic and microscopic *** experimental results indicate that the silt bed necessitates a lower wave load intensity to attain the liquefaction state in comparison to the silty fine sand ***,the duration and development depth of liquefaction are greater in the silt *** dissimilarity in liquefaction behavior between the two types of soil can be attributed to the variation in their permeability and plastic deformation *** permeability coefficient and compression modulus of silt are lower than those of silty fine ***,silt is more prone to the accumulation of pore pressure and subsequent liquefaction under external *** research has demonstrated that silt beds with varying consolidation degrees exhibit distinct initial failure ***,a dense bed undergoes shear failure,whereas a loose bed experiences initial liquefaction *** study utilized discrete element simulation to examine the microscopic mechanisms that underlie this phenomenon.

The submarine pipelines that are buried in the Yellow River subaqueous delta can be subject to fluctuant local-liquefied soil caused by storm wave action, possibly causing pipeline damage. An experimental investigation was carried out in a wave flume to study the horizontal normal force on buried rigid pipelines in fluctuant liquefied soil. In this experiment, the soil bed was made of silt from the Yellow River Delta, whereas a steel pipe served as pipeline. Under the experimental conditions, the normal force range on the pipeline in fluctuant liquefied soil was several times higher than that in stable soil, specifically on the side of the pipeline exposed to the wave direction. The resultant force of the horizontal normal forces on the buried pipeline grew by about one order of magnitude after soil liquefaction.

The long-distance movement of turbidity currents in submarine canyons can transport large amounts of sediment to deep-sea *** studies show obvious differences in the turbidity current velocities derived from the multiple cables damage events ranging from 5.9 to 28.0 m/s and those of field observations between 0.15 and 7.2 m/***,questions remain regarding whether a turbid fluid in an undersea environment can flow through a submarine canyon for a long distance at a high speed.A new model based on weakly stable sediment is proposed(proposed failure propagation model for weakly stable sediments,WS S-PFP model for short)to explain the high-speed and long-range motion of turbidity currents in submarine canyons through the combination of laboratory tests and numerical *** model is based on two mechanisms:1)the original turbidity current triggers the destabilization of the weakly stable sediment bed and promotes the destabilization and transport of the soft sediment in the downstream direction and 2)the excitation wave that forms when the original turbidity current moves into the canyon leads to the destabilization and transport of the weakly stable sediment in the downstream *** proposed model will provide dynamic process interpretation for the study of deep-sea deposition,pollutant transport,and optical cable damage.

The resuspension of marine sediments plays a key role in the biogeochemical cycle and marine ecology *** solitary waves are considered to be important driving forces of the resuspension of bottom *** this paper,the movement of turbidity currents,the generation and the effects on the bottom bed of internal solitary waves and excitation waves are studied by flume tests and numerical simulations,and the sediment resuspension are *** results show that the excitation wave can lead to the resuspension of the bottom sediments under all the conditions,while the internal solitary wave can lead to the resuspension of the sediment only under some special conditions,such as high amplitude or large underwater *** the experimental conditions,the change in the near-bottom velocity caused by the excitation wave is close to three times that of the internal solitary wave.

Meta‑analysis of the Association between Serotonin Transporter Polymorphisms and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

The serotonin transporter(5‑HTT)gene has been considered one of the risk factors for sudden infant death syndrome(SIDS),but the association remains *** meta‑analysis was performed to quantitatively summarize the evidence for such a ***,EMBASE,and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were searched for eligible studies within a range of published years from 1990 to December *** odds ratios(ORs)with 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were used to assess the different associations.A total of 8 studies with 624 cases and 796 controls were included for 5‑HTT promoter polymorphism,5 studies with 418 cases and 542 controls for intron 2,and 3 studies with 253 cases and 334 controls for *** pooled examinations showed an overall increased SIDS risk for the 5‑HTT promoter polymorphism(OR=1.65,95%CI=1.03–2.63,P=0.035 for LL *** and SS;OR=1.46,95%CI=1.04–2.04,P=0.028 for L vs.S),but no association(OR=1.00,95%CI=0.75–1.33,P=0.994 for 10+9 carriers vs.12/12;OR=0.97,95%CI=0.79–1.19,P=0.753 for 10+9 vs.12)for intron 2 polymorphism,and an unreliable association(OR=0.52,95%CI=0.31–0.87,P=0.013)for S‑9 and S‑10 *** meta‑analysis suggests that the L allele or LL homozygote of 5‑HTT promoter polymorphism has an increased risk for SIDS,while intron 2 polymorphism has no association with SIDS.

The study area lies in the subaqueous delta, which came into being in 1964 - 1976. Oneoil-field road has been built for exploring petroleum to form a wave barrier. The hydrodynarnic conditions on the north side of the road are relatively violent, on the contrary the hydrodynarnic conditions on the south side of the road are nearly placid. This makes the study area a natural laboratory for studying the influence of the hydrodynarnic conditions on the fractal characteristics of the tidal flat. Selecting an area is named Case Ⅰ on the side of stronger hydrodynarnic activities and an area is named Case Ⅱ on the other side. Measuring the topography and sampling and analyzing the granulometrical composition, it is found that the hydrodynarnic conditions have fatal influence on the surface fractal dimensions and the granulometrical fractal dimensions of the area. In Case Ⅰ , which has strong hydrodynarnic conditions, the surface fractal dimensions are obviously larger than those of Case Ⅱ , and the granulometrical fractal dimensions are relatively smaller than those of Case Ⅱ , the surface fractal dimensions of Case Ⅰ decrease quickly with the increase of grid size; the granulometrical fractal dimensions are disperse, while the hydrodynarnic conditions of Case Ⅱ are just reverse. A sampling line and a core sampling on each side of the road are selected. It is found that on the south side of the road the granulometrical fractal dimensions vary regularly in the line and with the depth, the farther apart from the road, the smaller the fractal dimensions, and the deeper the sampling position the larger the fractal dimensions, while granulometrical fractal dimensions on the north side of the road have no such regularity pattern. The mechanism of the influence of the hydrodynarnic conditions on the fractal characteristics is discussed.
