The aim for this research is to determine the association between the risk factors and prevalence of overweight and obesity in students in the health field in the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP in Spanish). A quantitative, correlational, and cross-sectional study was conducted from may to November 2012. By stratified random sampling, 290 students in the health field were selected. Questionnaire was used to identify factors associated with obesity. The obesity and overweight prevalence was determined, calculating body mass index through anthropometric measurement. The strength of the association between variables was measured using Chi squared and odds ratio tests. The proportion of students with overweight or obesity was 28.3% and was higher in men (36.8%) than in women (24.6%), with statistical significance (p ment can be a conditioning factor for the development of obesity and overweight in students. Implementation of a program is recommended to prevent and control such problems.

Background: Colorectal cancer surgery in extreme elderly population (380 years) is a growing problem and a subject in question. Experiences and results in this scenario are limited. methods: medical records of patients?380 years old hospitalized in General Surgery Department in Vega Baja Hospital between January 1st 2008 and December 31st 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer (CRC) were selected. Data regarding comorbidities, treatment performed, complications and survival were collected. Results: 95 patients (74 colon, 21 rectum) were identified: median age 83.0 years (80 - 93), 64.2% males. 93.7% of patients were operated on: median hospital and post-operative stay of 11 and 9 days, respectively;curative intention surgery 82.1%. 4.2% of patients were treated with interventionist procedures, and 2.1% of patients in a conservative way. 17.9% and 4.2% of patients came up with early and late complications, respectively. Early and late mortality occurred in 9.5% and 3.2% of patients, respectively. By march 2014, with a median follow up of 43.8 months, median overall survival for colorectal cancer patients was 2.7 years (95%IC, 2.0 - 3.2). Univariaye Cox Regresion analysis revealed the presence of cardiomyopathy (p = 0.024), the presence of chornic kidney disease (p = 0.025), the presence of comorbidities (vs absence) (0.026), the number of comorbidities (0.034), type of admission (p = 0.001), treatment with surgery (p = 0.001) and the incidence of early (p = 0.004) or late complications (p = 0.023) associated to overall survival with statically significance. multivariate Cox Regression analysis showed number of comorbidities (HR = 1.104;95%CI: 0.851 - 1.431;p = 0.456), treatment with surgery (HR = 4.928;95%CI: 1.815 - 13.385;p = 0.002), programmed admission into hospital (HR = 2.316;95%CI: 1.298 - 4.133;p = 0.004), and the incidence of late complications (HR = 4.629;95%CI: 1.279 - 16.750;p = 0.020) independently associated with o

The design and construction of an experimental solar hybrid vehicle based on the combination of photovoltaic solar energy as the main source of electricity and electric power supplied by a generator activated by the driver＇s pedaling is introduced. The vehicle has a battery to store the energy provided by both systems. The development was motivated by a Latin American solar car race through the Atacama Desert in Chile and the initiative to promote the use of clean energy for transport. A general description of the vehicle, its energetic aspects and experimental results are presented.

The effects of supplementing a blend of organic acids (OA) and a lactic acid bacteria (LAB) based-probiotic on egg to chick weight loss (%) and Salmonella spp. recovery counts in the litter of commercial broiler breeders were examined in three independent trials during the years 2013, 2014 and 2015. In each trial, ten thousand birds were divided into two groups of 5000 birds (4500 females and 500 males in each group): Control non-treated group, receiving regular water or treated group, receiving OA and probiotic in the drinking water from 25 to 35 weeks of age. During the ten weeks of evaluation, one thousand fertile eggs or hatched chickens in each trial respectively, were evaluated to obtained, hatching set weight, transferred egg weight, and hatching chick weight, to estimate the difference between egg to chick weight loss (%). Besides, in trial 2 (2014) and trial 3 (2015), litter samples were collected to evaluate Salmonella spp. counts. The supplementation of OA and probiotic during ten consecutive weeks significantly decreased the egg to chick weight loss (%) when compared with the control non-treated groups in all three trials evaluated. Interestingly, at the end of the trials 2 and 3, no counts of Salmonella spp. in the litter were detected. In contrast, control-non treated groups resulted in 4.30 and 4.24 Log10 of Salmonella spp. in trials two and three respectively. The results of the present study suggest that supplementation of OA and a LAB-probiotic for ten consecutive weeks decrease the egg to chick weight loss (%) and reduce Salmonella spp. counts in the litter of commercial broiler breeders. Higher initial body weight in broiler chickens and reduction of Salmonella spp., clearly justify the use of the combination of these products, as alternatives to antibiotics.

The habanero chili （Capsicum chinense Jacq.） is a species of great demand in the domestic and international markets. One problem in the cultivation is low percentage of seed germination. There is little information on the use of promoters and imbibition time to increase this parameter, without compromising the quality of seedlings. In this context, authors assessed the independent effect of GAs （gibberellic acid） and KNOs at concentrations of 0, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 mg·L1. Seeds without preconditioning were the witness. The experimental unit was a Petri dish with 50 seeds on filter paper placed equidistant. There were three replicates per treatment and the experimental design was randomized complete block. Imbibition time was 24 h. The experimental units were kept in an incubator at 22 ± 2 ℃. From the time of planting and for periods of 24 h for 14 d, experimental units were reviewed to determine the time at the beginning of germination and the total cumulative percentage. The authors also determined the number of normal and abnormal seedlings, the length of hypocotyl and radicle, weight of fresh and dry matter of seedlings. On the fifth day after sowing in vitro, concentrations of 500 mg·L^-1 of GAs, 300 and 400 mg·L^-1 KNO3, increased 208% the percentage of seed germination of habanero chile. On day 14 after sowing in vitro concentrations of 500 mg·L^-1 GA3, 300 and 400 mg·L^-1 KNO3, increased 23% normal seedlings and 40% dry matter thereof, with respect to seeds obtained without preconditioning. Unconditioned seeds before sowing produced 125% more seedlings.

Immunotherapy encompasses a variety of interventions and techniques with the common goal of eliciting tumor cell destructive immune responses. Colorectal carcinoma often presents as metastatic disease that impedes curative surgery. Novel strategies such as active immunization with dendritic cells (DCs), gene transfer of cytokines into tumor cells or administration of immunostimulatory monoclonal antibodies (such as anti-CD137 or anti-CTLA-4) have been assessed in preclinical studies and are at an early clinical development stage. Importantly, there is accumulating evidence that chemotherapy and immunotherapy can be combined in the treatment of some cases with colorectal cancer, with synergistic potentiation as a result of antigens cross-presented by dendritic cells and/or elimination of competitor or suppressive T lymphocyte populations (regulatory T-cells). However, genetic and epigenetic unstable carcinoma cells frequently evolve mechanisms of immunoevasion that are the result of either loss of antigen presentation, or an active expression of immunosuppressive substances. Some of these actively immunosuppressive mechanisms are inducible by cytokines that signify the arrival of an effector immune response. For example, induction of 2, 3 indoleamine dioxygenase (IDO) by IFNγ in colorectal carcinoma cells. Combinational and balanced strategies fostering antigen presentation, T-cell costimulation and interference with immune regulatory mechanisms will probably take the stage in translational research in the treatment of colorectal carcinoma.

The leaf-response to three-soil applied treatments of Paclobutrazol (PBZ;1000, 2000 and 0 ppm-control) was studied in a high-density plantation of eight guava (Psidium guajava) genotypes trees. All materials were prunned in vase form, with two to three major branches, yearly prunning for triggering the annual production cycle, and average height of 2.0 m. The dataset comprises fourth radiometric indices highly related to plant physiological activities. The dataset model took into account data collection dates, guava genotypes, and the positional effect of sun radiation on leaves based on their proximity to the canopy level and downward to the base of the woody seasonal-branch. Unexpectedly, there were no significant differences (NS) in PBZ treatments for genotypes, leaf position and radiometric indices. Analysis of the radiometric indices data revealed that anthocyanin (ARI index) and chlorophyll (PRI index) have a strong inverse relationship. Significant differences (P ≤ 0.05) were found between guava genotypes, and anthocyanin content;these results show that guava genotypes have varied responses, which could derive in their classification based-on drought resistance or low water requirements, however, it is important to note that additional research is required to determine the scope of these indications.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the impact of the technological level in small-scale dual-purpose cow-calf m>Bos indicusm> female operations on the resumption of the ovarian activity post-partum. A total of 13 small scale dual-purpose m>Bos indicusm> × m>Bos taurusm> operations were included in this experiment and they were classified according to their technological status as: high technological status (HT), medium technological status (mT) and low technological status (LT). Ninety-three mature cows were treated with either a CIDR (controlled internal drug release device) with estradiol benzoate (CIDR+EB) or alone (CIDR). At day 9 all animals received intravaginally a CIDR for nine days. At day 0, the CIDR was withdrawn and 24 hours later one dose of estradiol benzoate was administered to 51 cows (17 in HT, 17 in mT and 17 in LT), the remaining animals (n = 42) did not receive the estradiol benzoate administration (14 in HT, 13 in mT and 15 in LT). Comparisons were performed on serum progesterone concentrations after CIDR treatment. By day 7 after implant withdrawal, the proportion of cows that resume ovarian activity detected by progesterone concentration increased in all technological level farms, no statistical main effect was observed within technological level. By day 17 there was a significant main effect of technological level (P = 0.05) on the proportion of animal that resumed the estrous cycles, but neither a main effect of treatment (P = 0.97) nor an interaction between technological level and treatment (P = 0.98). Furthermore, technological level of the farm showed a tendency (P = 0.07) to affect that resume the estrous activity, and a significant effect of treatment was observed (P = 0.005) but no interaction between technological level and treatment.
