A constant increase in dive tourism over the past years in the Revillagigedo National Park, mexico, could result in a stressful scenario for giant mantas (mobula birostris). The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of oxidative stress in terms of changes in catalase units (CAT) and muscle glycogen concentration in this species during two periods of different tourism intensity in this protected area. A total of 21 muscle biopsies were collected in march (peak tourism) and November (lower tourism), 2019. Stress biomarkers were analysed by commercial kits from the company Cayman Chemical. Oxidative stress (catalase activity) was significantly higher during the period with lower tourism (p = 0.002), compared to the period with more tourism, suggesting the presence of the general adaptation syndrome. In males, there was a significant difference (p = 0.0005) in oxidative stress between periods of different tourism intensity, suggesting that the reproductive season may be a stressor. morphotypes showed different oxidative stress (p = 0.031);however, the reason is unknown. No statistical differences were detected in glycogen concentrations between the tourism periods (p = 0.123), probably because this polysaccharide is not a proper indicator of chronic stress in giant mantas. Based on these findings, giant mantas may have an adequate response in terms of oxidative stress due to an increase in tourism;however the observed increase in catalase suggests that it is within the tolerance range of these organisms.

AIm： To evaluate the relationship between leptin and systemic inflammation in acute pancreatitis. mETHODS： Consecutive patients with acute pancreatitis were included. Body mass index and serum samples were obtained at admission. Leptin, TNF-α, IL-6, -8 and -10 levels were determined by ELISA. Severity was defined according to Atlanta criteria. RESULTS： Fifty-two （29 females） patients were studied. Overall body mass index was similar between mild and severe cases, although women with severe pancreatitis had lower body mass index （P = 0.04） and men showed higher body mass index （P = 0.05）. No difference was found in leptin levels regarding the severity of pancreatitis, but higher levels tended to appear in male patients with increased body mass index and severe pancreatitis （P = 0.1）. A multivariate analysis showed no association between leptin levels and severity. The strongest cytokine associated with severity was IL-6. Correlations of leptin with another cytokines only showed a trend for IL-8 （P = 0.058）. CONCLUSION： High body mass index was associated with severity only in males, which may be related to android fat distribution. Serum leptin seems not to play a role on the systemic inflammatory response in acute pancreatitis and its association with severe outcome in males might represent a marker of increased adiposity.

The current paper deals with the way in which the liquid-vapor equilibrium can be predicted, using the program microsoft-Excel to obtain the bubble temperatures of twenty different non-ideal mixtures, the location of the azeotrope and the relation of the minimal reflux. The Wilson model was used for the activity coefficient and the cubic equation of state was used for the fugacity coefficient, utilizing the Pitzer correlation for the second virial coefficient.

Objective:To determine the polymorphisms of Interleukin-10(IL-10)(-592,-1082) in pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB)with and without type 2 diabetes(T2D).methods:We studied a mexican mestizo population of 37 patients with TB in remission(TBr) and 40 with active pulmonary TB (PTB),21 patients with TB + T2D.47 blood donors accepted,and 13 healthy health-care workers with tuberculin skin lest *** of IL-10 polymorphisms was performed by real-lime Polymerase chain ***:IL-10-592C/A presented in a greater proportion in healthy individuals than in patients with type 2 diabetes and TB in a not quite significant statistically ***-10-1082A/A presented more frequently in the group of patients with both diseases,not being statistically significant in comparison with the group of healthy subjects. Conclusions:This study describes two important new ***,it reveals that the IL-10 (-592 A/A and -592 C/C) polymorphisms were found in a greater proportion in a group of patients with T2D and TB than in healthy ***,the study provides evidence that the(-1082 G/G) polymorphism presented with greater frequency in healthy individuals than in patients with both ol these diseases.

Due to the removal of antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) and consumer pressure for antibiotic-free (ABF) or no antibiotics ever (NAE) poultry production, there is a need for sustainable alternatives to prevent disease in commercial poultry operations. Without AGPs, there has been a rise in diseases that were traditionally controlled by subtherapeutic levels of antibiotics in the diet. This has impacted the health of commercial poultry and has been a significant cost to poultry producers. To mitigate this, the industry has started to investigate alternatives to antibiotics to treat these forthcoming health issues, such as necrotic enteritis (NE). NE is an enteric disease caused by an over proliferation of toxigenic Clostridium perfringens (CP) in the gastrointestinal tract. Although CP is a commensal in the avian intestinal tract, dysbiosis caused by inflammation and impaired intestinal integrity facilitates uncontrolled replication of CP. Infectious agents, such as Eimeria maxima, appear to be a predominant predisposing factor that promotes NE. However, non-infectious stressors, including dietary changes, have also been associated with NE to some degree. As a result of increased pressure to restrict the use of antibiotics, there is a need for research evaluating the efficacy of alternatives, such as plant-derived essential oils, as potential tools to mitigate NE in commercial poultry flocks. The aim of this study is to review the effects of essential oils as an alternative to antibiotics to reduce the incidence and severity of necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens.

Pancreatic cancer produces disabling abdominal pain,and the pain medical management for pancreatic cancer is often challenging because it mainly relies on the use of narcotics(major opioids).However,opioids often provide suboptimal pain relief,and the use of opioids can lead to patient tolerance and several side effects that considerably reduce the quality of life of pancreatic cancer ***-guided celiac plexus neurolysis(EUS-CPN)is an alternative for pain control in patients with nonsurgical pancreatic cancer;EUS-CPN consists of the injection of alcohol and a local anesthetic into the area of the celiac plexus to achieve chemical ablation of the nerve ***-CPN via the transgastric approach is a safer and more accessible technique than the percutaneous *** have reviewed most of the studies that evaluate the efficacy of EUSCPN and that have compared the different approaches that have been performed by *** efficacy of EUS-CPN varies from 50%to 94%in the different studies,and EUS-CPN has a pain relief duration of 4–8 *** factors are involved in its efficacy,such as the onset of pain,previous use of chemotherapy,presence of metastatic disease,EUS-CPN technique,type of needle or neurolytic agent used,*** to this review,injection into the ganglia may be the best technique,and a good visualization of the ganglia is the best predictor for a good EUS-CPN response,although more studies are ***,any of the 4 different techniques could be used to perform EUS-CPN effectively with no differences in terms of complications between the techniques,but more studies are *** effect of EUS-CPN on pain improvement,patient survival and patient quality of life should be evaluated in well-designed randomized clinical *** research also needs to be performed to clarify the best time frame in performing a EUS-CPN.
