Carbon-based solid lubricants are excellent options to reduce friction and wear,especially with the carbon capability to adopt different allotropes *** the macroscale,these materials are sheared on the contact along with debris and contaminants to form tribolayers that govern the tribosystem *** a recently developed advanced Raman analysis on the tribolayers,it was possible to quantify the contactinduced defects in the crystalline structure of a wide range of allotropes of carbon-based solid lubricants,from graphite and carbide-derived carbon particles to multi-layer graphene and carbon *** addition,these materials were tested under various dry sliding conditions,with different geometries,topographies,and solid-lubricant application *** of the initial tribosystem conditions and allotrope level of atomic ordering,there is a remarkable trend of increasing the point and line defects density until a specific saturation limit in the same order of magnitude for all the materials tested.

This study investigates the biofilm formation, presence and distribution of virulence genes and the capacity to induce an inflammatory response in strains of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from milk samples in bahia, brazil. A total of 132 samples of raw milk were collected from four dairy farms (designated A to D) located in southwestern bahia, in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista, from October/2009 to September/2010. After processing of the samples, 94 (71.2%) S. aureus isolates were obtained. These strains were subjected to the antibiogram method MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration). As for the pathogenicity, tests were performedin vitrobiofilm formation induced by glucose. Moreover, we performed PCR for their virulence genes: sea (enterotoxin A), seb (b), sec (C), pvl (Panton-Valentine Leukocidin), clfA (Clumping Factor A) and spa (protein A) and analysis of cytokine induction in the inflammatory response of J774 macrophages by exocellular lipoteichoic acid. No isolates were resistant to oxacillin and vancomycin. In biofilm production, 5.31% (5/94) isolates did not produce biofilm, 5.31% (5/94) of the samples were poor producers, 15.96% (15/94) strains were moderate producers, 18.09% (17/94) were producers and 55.32% (55/94) of isolates were strong biofilm producers. One (1.06%) isolate expressed the seb gene, one (1.06%) sec, 18 (19.2%) cflA and 44 (46.8%) had spa. There was no expression of sea and pvl between isolates analyzed. The analysis of cytokine induction in the inflammatory response did not show statistical difference in the levels of IL-6, TNF-α and IL-10 induction. However, there was statistical difference in IL-1 induction between isolates from different farms. Thus, it appears that the results obtained in this study show significant effects for the region studied, since it is an important dairy region, hence the need for further studies, with the intent of attracting funding that contributes to improving prevention and control in both dai

The simplest NMS flow is a polar flow formed by an attractive periodic orbit and a repulsive periodic orbit as limit sets. In this paper we show that the only orientable, simple, compact, 3-dimensional manifolds without boundary that admit an NMS flow with none or one saddle periodic orbit are lens spaces. We also see that when a fattened round handle is a connected sum of tori, the corresponding flow is also a trivial connected sum of flows.

Sporadic colorectal cancer(CRC) is traditionally diagnosed after the sixth decade of life,and current recommendations for surveillance include only patients older than 50 years of age. However,an increasing incidence of CRC in patients less than 40 years of age has been reported. This occurrence has been attributed to different molecular features and low suspicion of CRC in young symptomatic individuals. When confronting young-onset CRC with older patients,issues such as biological aggressiveness,stage at diagnosis and clinical outcomes seem to differ in many aspects. In the future,the identification of the molecular profile underlying the early development of sporadic CRC will help to plan tailored screening recommendations and improve management. besides that,differential diagnosis with CRC linked with hereditary syndromes is necessary to provide adequate patient treatment and family screening. Until we find the answers to some of these doubts,doctors should raise suspicion when evaluating an young adult and be aware of this risk and consequences of a late diagnosis.

Impact of rainfed and irrigated agriculture systems on soil carbon stock under different climate scenarios in the semi-arid region of brazil

Understanding the dynamics of soil organic carbon(SOC) is of fundamental importance in land use and management, whether in the current researches or in future scenarios of agriculture systems considering climate change. In order to evaluate SOC stock of the three districts(Delmiro Gouveia, Pariconha, and Inhapi districts) in the semi-arid region of brazil in rainfed and irrigated agriculture systems under different climate scenarios using the Century model, we obtained RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 climate scenarios derived from the Eta Regional Climate Model(Eta-Had GEM2-ES and Eta-MIROC5) from the National Institute for Space Research, and then input the data of bulk density, p H, soil texture, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, and rainfall into the soil and climate files of the Century model. The results of this study showed that the Eta-Had GEM2-ES model was effective in estimating air temperature in the future period. In rainfed agriculture system, SOC stock under the baseline scenario was lower than that under RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 climate scenarios, while in irrigated agriculture system, SOC stock in the almost all climate scenarios(RCP4.5 and RCP8.5) and models(Eta-Had GEM2-ES and Eta-MIROC5) will increase by 2100. The results of this study will help producers in the semi-arid region of brazil adopt specific agriculture systems aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

We report for the first time the presence of local populations of the starfish Odontaster penicillatus in the regions of Atacama and Antofagasta,*** finding indicates an extension of the distribution limit of 500 km with respect to the last observation made in 2007 in Isla Grande de Atacama.A total of 121 specimens of *** were recorded at depths of between 8 m and 24 *** were associated with rocky substrate and with different species of barnacles,sponges and *** presence of *** expands the knowledge of the benthic biodiversity of the region,and the development of studies on its ecological importance will be promoted.

In this study,the sperm ultrastructure of three species of Idarnes genus was investigated using light and transmission electron *** morphology of the three species was similar to that of most Chalcidoidea,with helicoidally twisted nucleus and *** head region consists of an acrosome and a nucleus;the nucleus-flagellum transition region characterized by the presence of mitochondrial derivatives and the centriolar adjunct;a flagellum region,which includes the axoneme with microtubular arrangement 9+9+2 and two mitochondrial ***,the sperm of these three species exhibit features that discriminate one species from each other:(1)only one species,Idarnes sp.2(carme group)exhibited an extracellular sheath surrounding the anterior portion of the nucleus,which extends to the anterior region of the flagellum,but it did not present filaments;(2)the acrosome in the three species was quite different,Idarnes sp.1 and Idarnes sp.2(carme group)has two compartments(acrosomal and subacrosomal vesicles)while Idarnes sp.3(flavicollis group)has a third compartment(perforatorium);(3)the centriolar adjunct elongated and its location among the mitochondrial derivatives is similar for the three species analyzed;(4)mitochondrial derivatives differ between the species,with triangular(Idarnes sp.1 and sp.3)and elongated or flat shaped(Idarnes sp.2)*** data shows that sperm structure may differ within the same genus and confirms the potential of these cells in phylogenetic and taxonomic analyses in the Chalcidoidea superfamily,as well as in Hymenoptera in general.

Objective:We reviewed and appraised the existing evidence of in vivo manifestations of residual force enhancement in human skeletal muscles and assessed,through a meta-analysis,the effect of an immediate history of eccentric contraction on the subsequent torque capacity of voluntary and electrically evoked muscle ***:Our search was conducted from database inception to May *** information was extracted from,and quality was assessed for,45 ***-analyses and metaregressions were used to analyze residual torque enhancement and its dependence on the angular amplitude of the preceding eccentric ***:Procedures varied across studies with regards to muscle group tested,angular stretch amplitude,randomization of contractions,time window analyzed,and verbal *** capacity in isometric(constant muscle tendon unit length and joint angle)contractions preceded by an eccentric contraction was typically greater compared to purely isometric contractions,and this effect was greater for electrically evoked muscle contractions than voluntary *** torque enhancement differed across muscle groups for the voluntary contractions,with a significant enhancement in torque observed for the adductor pollicis,ankle dorsiflexors,ankle plantar flexors,and knee extensors,but not for the elbow and knee ***-regressions revealed that the angular amplitude of the eccentric contraction(normalized to the respective joints full range of motion)was not associated with the residual torque enhancement ***:There is evidence of residual torque enhancement for most,but not all,muscle groups,and residual torque enhancement is greater for electrically evoked than for voluntary *** to our hypothesis,and contrary to generally accepted findings on isolated muscle preparations,residual torque enhancement in voluntary and electrically evoked contractions does not seem to depend on the angular ampli
