Lysyl oxidase and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α: biomarkers of gastric cancer

BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC) is one of the main causes of cancer mortality *** studies on tumor microenvironments have shown that tumor metabolism exerts a vital role in cancer *** To investigate whether lysyl oxidase(LOX) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α(HIF1α) are prognostic and predictive biomarkers in *** A total of 80 tissue and blood samples were collected from 140 patients admitted to our hospital between August 2008 and March 2012. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to measure the expression of LOX and HIF1α in tumor and adjacent tissues collected from patients with GC. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR) analysis was used to detect the mRNA expression levels of LOX and HIF1α in patients with GC. In addition, single-factor analysis was applied to analyze the relationship between LOX, HIF1α and prognosis of *** Immunohistochemical staining suggested that the expression levels of LOX and HIF1α increased in tumor tissues from patients with GC. QRT-PCR analysis indicated that mRNA expression of LOX and HIF1α was also upregulated in tumor tissues, which was in accordance with the above results. We also detected expression of these two genes in blood samples. The expression level of LOX and HIF1α was higher in patients with GC than in healthy controls. Additional analysis showed that the expression level of LOX and HIF1α was related to the clinicopathological characteristics of GC. Expression of LOX and HIF1α increased with the number of lymph node metastases, deeper infiltration depth and later tumor–node–metastasis stages. Single-factor analysis showed that high expression of LOX and HIF1α led to poor prognosis of patients with *** LOX and HIF1α can be used as prognostic and predictive biomarkers for GC.

The dual impact of climate change and human activities has precipitated a sharp decline in primate biodiversity *** is home to the most diverse primate species in the Northern hemisphere,which face severe ecological threats due to the expansion of modern agriculture,extensive exploitation and consumption of natural resources,and excessive land development during its transition from an agricultural to a modern *** response,China has implemented various ecological conservation measures,including habitat restoration and *** efforts have made substantial strides in biodiversity conservation,with certain regions witnessing an increase in primate *** the current study,we conducted a systematic review of historical documents and field research data related to Chinese primates,evaluating the endangered status of primate species in *** improvements in the habitats of most primate species and some population growth,many species still face severe threats,including declining and small *** such as the Myanmar snub-nosed monkey(Rhinopithecus strykeri),eastern black crested gibbon(Nomascus nasutus),and Hainan gibbon(***)remain particularly vulnerable due to their limited distribution ranges and extremely small *** scientific data,fragmented information,and not enough studies in conservation biology further compound the ***,there is a notable lack of detailed population monitoring data for species such as the Bengal slow loris(Nycticebus bengalensis),pygmy slow loris(***),Indochinese gray langur(Trachypithecus crepusculus),Shortridge’s langur(***),and capped langur(***),which hinders the development of practical and targeted conservation management ***,for national biodiversity conservation,there is an urgent need for specialized primate surveys,enhancing habitat protection and restoration,and increasing focus on cross-border conse

Use of coronary CT angiography in the diagnosis of patients with suspected coronary artery disease： findings and clinical indications

Objective To investigate the clinical applications of coronary CT angiography in patients with suspected coronary artery disease and identify factors that affect CT findings. Methods Medical records of patients suspected of coronary artery disease over a period of 12 months from a tertiary teaching hospital were retrospectively reviewed. Patient age, sex （male/female）, duration of symptoms and abnormal rates of coronary CT angiography scans were analysed to investigate the relationship among these parameters. The patients by age were characterized into five groups： under 36 years, 36-45 years, 46-55 years, 56455 years and more than 66 years, respectively; while the duration of symptoms was also classified into five groups： less than one week, one week to one month, one to three months, three to six months and more than six months. Results Of the 880 patient records reviewed, 800 met the above study criteria. Five hundred and forty nine patients demonstrated abnormal CT findings （68.6%）. There was no significant difference in the percentage of abnormal CT findings based on patient sex and the duration of symptoms （P = 0.14）. The abnormal rates of coronary CT angiography, however, increased significantly with increasing age （P 〈 0.001）; with patients over 65 years of age 2.5 times more likely to have an abnormal CT scan relative to a patient under 45 years. A significant difference was found between abnormal coronary CT angiography and the duration of symptoms （P = 0.012）. Conclusions Our results indicate coronary CT angiography findings are significantly related to the patient age group and duration of symptoms. Clinical referral for coronary CT angiography of patients with suspected coronary artery disease needs to be justified with regard to the judicious use of this imaging modality.

Optical Properties, Electronic Energy Level Structure and Electroluminescent Characteristics of Salicylaldehyde Anil Zinc

A new electroluminescent material, salicylaldehyde anil zinc （SAZ） was synthesized, which can form high quality, thermal stability, nano-scale amorphous films by vacuum evaporation. Its structure, thermal stability were characterized by infrared （IR） spectra, differential thermal analysis-thermogravimetry （DTA-TG） analysis, respectively. The optical properties of SAZ were investigated by UV absorption spectra, Photoluminescence （PL） excitation and emission spectra. The highest occupied molecular orbits （HOMO）, lowest unoccupied molecular orbits （LUMO） and optical band gap were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry curve and optical absorption band edge. The electroluminescent devices using SAZ as the emissive layer emit green light with a peak wavelength at 509 nm and a brightness of about 3.1 cd/m^2.

Enhancement of mouse germ cell-associated genes expression by injection of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells into the testis of chemical-induced azoospermic mice

Various methods are currently under investigation to preserve fertility in males treated with high-dose chemotherapy and radiation for malignant and nonmalignant disorders. Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells （HUC-MSCs）, which possess potent immunosuppressive function and secrete various cytokines and growth factors, have the potential clinical applications. As a potential alternative, we investigate whether injection of HUC-MSCs into the interstitial compartment of the testes to promote spermatogenic regeneration efficiently. HUC-MSCs were isolated from different sources of umbilical cords and injected into the interstitial space of one testis from 10 busulfan-treated mice （saline and HEK293 cells injections were performed in a separate set of mice） and the other testis remained uninjected. Three weeks after MSCs injection, Relative quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to identify the expression of 10 of germ cell associated, which are all related to meiosis, demonstrated higher levels of spermatogenic gene expression （2-8 fold） in HUC-MSCs injected testes compared to the contralateral uninjected testes （five mice）. Protein levels for germ cell-specific genes, miwi, vasa and synaptonemal complex protein （Scp3） were also higher in MSC-treated testes compared to injected controls 3 weeks after treatment. However, no different expression was detected in saline water and HEK293 cells injection control group. We have demonstrated HUC-MSCs could affect mouse germ cell-specific genes expression. The results also provide a possibility that the transplanted HUC-MSCs may promote the recovery of spermatogenesis. This study provides further evidence for preclinical therapeutic effects of HUC-MSCs, and explores a new approach to the treatment of azoospermia.

Vascular endothelium can perceive fluid shear stress(FSS)and cyclic circumferential stretch(CCS)caused by the pulsatile blood flow,and translate the hemodynamics into biochemical signals to regulate vascular ***,existing methods provide little information about the real-time biochemical responses of endothelium when exposed to dynamic FSS and ***,a vasculature-on-a-chip integrated with stretchable sensing is engineered for recapitulating the hemodynamic milieus and in-situ monitoring biochemical responses of endothelial *** integrated device is developed by sandwiching a robust stretchable electrode between an upper fluidic channel and a lower pneumatic *** fluidic and pneumatic channels enable the simultaneous recapitulation of both FSS and CCS,and the integrated sensor exhibits excellent cell-adhesive capacity and electrochemical sensing stability even after long-term hemodynamic *** allow real-time monitoring of hemodynamic form-and duration-dependent endothelium responses,and further efficacy investigation about a recommended drug for COVID-19,demonstrating the great potential in vascular disease and drug screening.

BACKGROUND Adenomyomatous hyperplasia of the distal common bile duct(CBD)is very rare,with only scarce case reports in the *** is usually based on imaging findings,and endoscopic biopsy is very difficult before *** is believed that adenomyomatous hyperplasia has little or no risk of malignant *** SUMMARY A 68-year-old woman with abdominal pain in the right upper quadrant was referred to our *** ultrasonography in the emergency ward revealed acute cholecystitis and dilated *** findings showed elevated levels of transaminases,phosphatase,andγ-*** treatment for 3 d did not relieve the *** resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP)and computed tomography(CT)showed proximal bile duct dilatation but could not identify the *** ultrasonography(EUS)demonstrated a mixed echogenic mass in the distal *** surgery,a firm mass was found in the distal CBD and the Whipple procedure was performed with the initial concern of *** showed diffuse adenomyomatous *** EUS may be a useful choice to diagnose adenomyoma of the distal CBD before operation,especially in patients with ambiguous MRCP/CT findings.

Comprehensive model for a slag bath in electroslag remelting process with a current-conductive mould

A mathematical model was developed to describe the interaction of multiple physical fields in a slag bath during electroslag remelting （ESR） process with a current-conductive mould. The distributions of current density, magnetic induction intensity, electromagnetic force, Joule heating, fluid flow and temperature were simulated. The model was verified by temperature measurements during remelting 12CrMoVG steel with a slag of 50wt%-70wt% CaF2, 20wt%-30wt% CaO, 10wt%-20wt% A1203, and 〈10wt% SiO2 in a 600 mm diameter current-conductive mould. There is a good agreement between the calculated temperature results and the measured data in the slag bath. The calculated results show that the maximum values of current density, electromagnetic force and Joule heating are in the region between the comer electrodes and the conductivity element. The characteristics of current density distribution, magnetic induction intensity, electromagnetic force, Joule heating, velocity patterns and temperature profiles in the slag bath during ESR process with current-conductive mould were analyzed.

Tracking with nonlinear measurement model by coordinate rotation transformation

A new filtering method is proposed to accurately estimate target state via decreasing the nonlinearity between radar polar measurements(or spherical measurements in three-dimensional(3D) radar) and target position in Cartesian coordinate. The degree of linearity is quantified here by utilizing correlation coefficient and Taylor series expansion. With the proposed method, the original measurements are converted from polar or spherical coordinate to a carefully chosen Cartesian coordinate system that is obtained by coordinate rotation transformation to maximize the linearity degree of the conversion function from polar/spherical to Cartesian coordinate. Then the target state is filtered along each axis of the chosen Cartesian coordinate. This method is compared with extended Kalman filter(EKF), Converted Measurement Kalman filter(CMKF), unscented Kalman filter(UKF) as well as Decoupled Converted Measurement Kalman filter(DECMKF). This new method provides highly accurate position and velocity with consistent estimation.
