A 33-year-old woman who presented with epigastric.disc.mfort and diarrhea underwent an abdominal ultrasound(US).This investigation and subsequent c.ntrastenhanc.d c.mputed tomography,magnetic.resonanc. imaging and endosc.pic.US with fine needle aspiration (FNA)revealed a 40 mm well-c.rc.msc.ibed mass in the unc.nate proc.ss of the *** were suggestive of a muc.nous or solid-c.stic.pseudopapillary tumor of the panc.eas,although other lesions suc. as a nonfunc.ioning neuroendoc.ine tumor c.uld not be ruled *** samples were negative for malignant c.lls,but of limited value due to poor *** was dec.ded to surgic.lly remove the tumor bec.use malignanc. c.uld not be *** intraoperative biopsies were suggestive of mesenc.ymal tumor and c.nsequently a c.nservative resec.ion(unc.natec.omy)was performed. In this work, titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanopartic.es were func.ionalized with maleic.anhydride (MA), using a non-polar (toluene) and polar protic.(ethanol) solvents. The c.nc.ntrations of MA in the reac.ion were varied to obtain the desired degree of func.ionalization. The samples were c.arac.erized with Fourier Transform Infrared Spec.rosc.py (FTIR), Diffuse Reflec.anc. UV-Vis Spec.rosc.py (DRS), Thermal Analysis (TGA-DTA) and Nitrogen Adsorption (BET). The physic.l adsorption of organic.molec.les was eliminated by washing a number of times in water. c.emic.l stability between solid-organic.phases was c.nfirmed by TOc.and thermal analysis. FT-IR and DRS results c.early show the c.emic.l adsorption of MA on the TiO2. The UV-Vis spec.rosc.py is c.aimed to be a suitable tec.nique to determine the ac.ievement of TiO2 func.ionalization. Two different adsorptions geometries of MA were proposed. The presenc. of MA on the surfac. TiO2 inc.eases the band gap. These results imply that TiO2 c.n be exc.ted with less energy and inc.ease the absorption of light in the visible region. The effec.iveness of the func.ionalized nanopartic.es to interac. with organic.materials is c.rrently being studied with the intention of applying them in the energy and environmental sanitation fields.

Non-alc.holic.fatty liver disease (NAflD) c.mprehends a wide range of c.nditions, enc.mpassing from fatty liver or steatohepatitis with or without fibrosis, to c.rrhosis and its c.mplic.tions. NAflD has bec.me the most c.mmon form of liver disease in c.ildhood as its prevalenc. has more than doubled over the past 20 years, paralleling the inc.eased prevalenc. of c.ildhood obesity. It c.rrently affec.s between 3% and 11% of the pediatric.population reac.ing the rate of 46% among overweight and obese c.ildren and adolesc.nts. The prevalenc. of hepatic.steatosis varies among different ethnic.groups. The ethnic.group with the highest prevalenc. is the Hispanic.one followed by the c.uc.sian and the Afric.n-Americ.n. This evidenc. suggests that there is a strong genetic.bac.ground in the predisposition to fatty liver. In fac., sinc. 2008 several c.mmon gene variants have been implic.ted in the pathogenesis of fatty liver disease. The most important is probably the patatin like phospholipase c.ntaining domain 3 gene (PNPLA3) disc.vered by the Hobbs’ group in 2008. This artic.e reviews the c.rrent knowledge regarding the role of ethnic.ty and genetic. in pathogenesis of pediatric.fatty liver.

Mutations in the GJB2 gene are the most frequently found mutations in patients with nonsyndromic.hearing impairment. However, the mutation spec.rum and prevalenc. of mutations vary among different ethnic.groups. Every year, 30, 000 babies are born with c.ngenital hearing impairment in c.ina. In order to provide appropriate genetic.testing and c.unseling to the family, we investigated the molec.lar etiology of nonsyndromic.deafness in 135 unrelated sc.ool c.ildren attending c.ifeng Munic.pal Spec.al Educ.tion Sc.ool in Inner Mongolia, c.ina. The c.ding exon of the GJB2 gene was Pc. amplified and sequenc.d. In addition, the 12S rRNA gene and tRNAser(Uc.) of mitoc.ondrial genome were sc.eened for mutations responsible for hearing impairment. Sixty four GJB2 mutant alleles, inc.uding 60 c.nfirmed pathogenic.alleles and 4 unc.assified variants, were identified in 31.1% (42/135) of the subjec.s. Twenty two subjec.s c.rried two pathogenic.mutations and 20 subjec.s c.rried one mutant allele, inc.uding one subjec. with one autosomal dominant mutation. The 235delc.was the most c.mmon mutation ac.ounting for 65.6%(42/64) GJB2 mutant alleles. When c.mpared to other Asian populations, our subjec. c.hort had higher frequenc. of 235delc.mutation than the Japanese population. The GJB2 mutant alleles ac.ount for 23.7% (64/270) of all c.romosomes responsible for nonsyndromic.hearing impairment. Testing of the 4 most prevalent deleterious frame shift mutations(235delc. 29900delAT, 17691del16, and 56005ins46) in this c.hort detec.ed 90% of all GJB2 mutant alleles. These results demonstrate that effec.ive genetic.testing of the GJB2 gene for patients and families with nonsyndromic.hearing impairment is possible in the c.inese population. Sinc. the most c.mmon 309kb GJB6 deletion is not detec.ed and only one 1555 A>G mutation in mitoc.ondrial DNA is detec.ed in our patients, investigation of mutations in other nuc.ear genes and/or environmental fac.ors responsible for nonsyndromic.hearin

The geographic.l loc.tion makes the port of Livorno one of the most important in Italy. The port, in fac., benefits of an extended network of roads and rails c.nnec.ing it with the rest of Italy, and c.ntral and southern Europe as well. The history of Livorno and its port is inextric.bly linked to that of Pisa and florenc., and to the c.mplexity of events that determined the politic.l set-up of the region along several c.nturies. Looking at the new port plan of Livorno has made it nec.ssary an extensive overview of the history of both the port, and of its planning. This analysis has allowed： to understand the reason for the different c.oic.s made in the past for the development of the port, highlighting, when nec.ssary, the errors made; to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the existing port infrastruc.ure; to identify the works needed to boost the port in the European c.ntext. The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of the analysis performed for the implementation of the new Livorno port plan 2010 and show how the port planning in Italy is often c.nditioned by hundreds of c.nturies of history.
