a.zheimer’s disea.e is a.drea.ed outcome tha. a.fects both men a.d women in la.er yea.s of life. While root ca.ses of this form of dementia.a.e not clea., va.ious fa.tors a.e known tha. contribute to the risk of development a.d the reduction in risks ba.ed on gender a.d our choices in life. This pa.er eva.ua.es the va.ious fa.tors tha. a.fect the risks of developing a.zheimer’s disea.e a. we a.e. The focus of this pa.er is gender considera.ions in a.ma.hema.ica. model progra.med in Excel. The model wa. first presented by gregory [1] a.d wa. ca.ibra.ed on one of the origina. popula.ion da.a.sets with 50 - 50 ma.e a.d fema.e pa.ticipa.ts. This model overpredicted the risks for women a.d underpredicted the risks for men. a.solution to this problem wa. found ba.ed on published va.ues of sex hormones for men a.d women. Ba.ed on the expa.ded current model, two ma.or fa.tors contribute to the gender differences in predictions: gender fa.tor va.ues (10.5 ml·kg-1·min-1 for men a.d 3.5 ml·kg-1·min-1 for women) used in VO2ma. equa.ions a.d a.sex hormone fa.tor tha. cha.ges a. hormones cha.ge for men a.d women with a.e. Smoking differences a.socia.ed with gender a.d the risk a.socia.ed with smoking wa. a.ded to the model. Cognitive reserve ba.ed on educa.ion differences between men a.d women wa. a.so a.ded. These a.e minor components compa.ed to hormone effects. The expa.ded model includes a. input for unsa.ura.ed fa. diets a.d cholesterol reducing medica.ions a.d use of Via.ra.by men tha. is known to reduce risk of developing a.zheimer’s disea.e. Predictions from the expa.ded model closely ma.ched mea.ured va.ues from a.e 50 through a.e 95 for ea.h gender with R2 va.ues of 0.99, which were highly significa.t (p = 0.001). The expa.ded model predictions ma.ched the reduced lifetime risk for men a.d women a.socia.ed with a.da.a.set tha. included a.popula.ion with the opportunity to use sta.ins a.d Via.ra. The expa.

The a.e component wa. derived from the concept tha. the cha.ge in risk of stroke with a.e is a.function of the current risk of developing a.stroke. This equa.ion modeled the trend with a.e reported in the litera.ure for two different da.a.sets with R2 va.ues of 0.97 or better for both men a.d women. a.second equa.ion of a.simila. na.ure wa. developed to predict the a.cumula.ion of white ma.ter hyperintensities, WMH, a. a.person a.es. It a.pea.s tha. ea.h equa.ion includes a.set of common risk fa.tors. This set of common risk fa.tors a.lows a. individua.’s risk for stroke to be ba.ed on mea.ured WMH. a.third equa.ion links WMH with the risk of developing a.stroke. This equa.ion a.lows a. individua. to use mea.ured WMH from bra.n sca.s to predict the future risk of developing a.stroke. In theory, a.person with a.rela.ively high mea.urement of WMH ca. project future risk for stroke with a.e a.d use counter mea.ures such a. exercise a.d medica.ions to keep other risk fa.tors low a. a.person continues to a.e.
