Genes for sexual body size dimorphism in hybrid tilapia(Oreochromis sp.x Oreochromis mossambicus)

Tilapias are important aquaculture ***-biased sexual size dimorphism is very common and males are preferred for aquaculture in ***,the mechanisms underlying sexual dimorphism remain to be *** hundred and thirty-six sex-biased genes,of which 23 were male-biased and 113 were femalebiased,were identified via reanalysis of a muscle transcriptome data using the latest reference genome *** genes were mapped to KEGG pathways that are related to somatic cell metabolism,growth and differentiations,such as MAPK,FoxO4 and metabolism pathways as well as developmental processes responsible for skeletal muscle *** related to cell growth and proliferations such as MAPK signaling pathways are upregulated in males while pathways regulating cell division such as FoxO4 are upregulated in ***-biased genes in tilapia skeletal muscle have higher evolution rates(dN/dS)compared to unbiased ***-biased and male-biased genes showed 17.4%and 13.5%higher dN/dS,respectively,compared to unbiased *** results suggest that some of the male and female sex-biased genes were under selection *** SNPs located in the promoter region of one sex-biased gene RASGRF1 on LG1 were associated with bodyweight differences in the hybrid *** sex-biased genes identified in this study may serve as candidate genes for future functional analysis on sexual size dimorphism and for developing DNA markers for selecting fast-growing saline tilapia in aquaculture.

Nature as Harmony： The Foundation of Chinese Poetry

This paper argues for the very foundation of Chinese poetry, that is, nature itself. To this end, I have chosen three well-known poets, Wang Wei （706-761） in Tang Dynasty （618-907）, Su Shi （1037-1101） and Zhou Dunyi （1017-1073） in Northern Song Dynasty （960-1127）. All three poets were also high ranking governmental officials. They were leaders of high personal integrity.

Testosterone replacement therapy and the risk of prostate cancer

Understanding the role of testosterone replacement therapy （TRT） in the development and progression of prostate cancer is an important concept in treating patients with symptoms of hypogonadism. This article revealed a small number of mostly retrospective, observational studies describing the use of TRT in the general population, in men with prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia （PIN）, in men with a history of treated prostate cancer, and in men on active surveillance for prostate cancer. The current literature does not report a statistically significant increase in the development or progression of prostate cancer in men receiving testosterone replacement for symptomatic hypogonadism, and the prostate saturation theory provides a model explaining the basis for these results. The use of TRT in men with a history of prostate cancer is considered experimental, but future results from randomized controlled trials could lead to a change in our current treatment approach.

Metabolic(dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is currently the most common chronic liver disease and affects at least a quarter of the global adult *** has rapidly become one of the leading causes of hepatocellular carcinoma and cirrhosis in Western *** this review,we discuss the nomenclature and definition of MAFLD as well as its prevalence and incidence in different geographical *** cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in MAFLD patients,the proportion of patients dying from hepatic complications increases sharply as the disease progresses to advanced liver fibrosis and *** addition,patients with MAFLD are at increased risk of various extrahepatic *** a causal relationship between MAFLD and extrahepatic cancers has not been established,clinicians should recognize the association and consider cancer screening(e.g.,for colorectal cancer)as appropriate.

Given the increase in pornography use among adolescents over the years,we discuss the impact of its use on sexual health development as well as the role of primary care providers(PCPs)in assessing use and providing sexual health *** pornography use is often viewed negatively,it is important to develop unbiased understanding of the use in order to provide non-judgemental,adolescent-focused and educational *** PCPs are often the first point of contact when adolescents experience medical and behavioural health concerns,it is essential for them to be equipped to screen for pornography use effectively,create a confidential and comfortable environment to talk about pornography use and sexuality,and be informed of ways to promote open discussion between youth and *** addition to PCP involvement,parental collaboration,knowledge and comfortability with discussing pornography use with their child are powerful tools in understanding and navigating pornography use in this *** special communication seeks to provide an objective view of adolescents’pornography use,guidelines for screening of pornography use and ways to facilitate conversations about the use between adolescents and caregivers.

Does carrier fluid reduce low flow drug infusion error from syringe size?

BACKGROUND Critically ill neonates and pediatric patients commonly require multiple low flow *** limitations are imposed by small body habitus and comorbidities like cardiopulmonary disease,renal failure,or fluid *** access is limited by diminutive *** fluids or parenteral nutrition in conjunction with actively titrated infusions such as insulin,fentanyl,prostaglandins,inotropes and vasopressors may necessitate simultaneous infusions using a single lumen to maintain vascular catheter *** requirement for multiple titratable infusions requires concentrated medications at low flows,rather than more dilute drugs at higher flows that in combination may volume overload small *** To determine whether carrier fluid reduces variability that variability of low flow drug infusions is proportional to syringe size in pediatric critical *** We assessed concentrations of orange“drug”in a 0.2 mL/h low flow clinical model with blue dyed carrier fluid at 5 mL/h,using 3-,10-,or 60-mL syringes.A graduated volumetric pipette was used to measure total *** time to target concentration was 30,21,and 46 min in 3-,10-,and 60-mL syringes,respectively(P=0.42).After achieving target concentration,more dilute drug was delivered by 60-mL(Plinear mixed effects models demonstrated lesser delivered drug concentrations in the initial 30 min by 3-mL compared to 10-and 60-mL syringes(P=0.005 and P<0.001,respectively)but greater drug concentrations and total infused drug in the subsequent 30-60 and 60-90 min intervals with the 3-and 10-mL compared to 60-mL *** With carrier fluid,larger syringes were associated with significantly

Hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance and quantile regression for determinants of underutilisation in at-risk Australian patients

BACKGROUND While clinical guidelines recommend hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)surveillance for at-risk individuals,reported surveillance rates in the United States and Europe remain disappointingly *** To quantify HCC surveillance in an Australian cohort,and assess for factors associated with surveillance *** All patients undergoing HCC surveillance liver ultrasounds between January 1,2018 to June 30,2018 at a tertiary hospital in Melbourne,Australia,were followed until July 31,2020,or when surveillance was no longer *** primary outcome was the percentage of time up-to-date with HCC surveillance(PTUDS).Quantile regression was performed to determine the impact of factors associated with HCC surveillance *** Among 775 at-risk patients followed up for a median of 27.5 months,the median PTUDS was 84.2%(IQR:66.3%-96.3%).85.0%of patients were followed up by specialist *** those receiving specialist care,quantile regression demonstrated differential associations at various quantile levels of PTUDS for several *** age at the 25th quantile(estimate 0.002 per percent,P=0.03),and cirrhotic status at the 75th quantile(estimate 0.021,P=0.017),were significantly associated with greater percentage of time *** ethnicity(estimate-0.089,P=0.048)and a culturally and linguistically diverse(CALD)background(estimate-0.063,P=0.01)were significantly associated with lower PTUDS at the 50th quantile,and again for CALD at the 75th quantile(estimate-0.026,P=0.045).CONCLUSION While median PTUDS in this Australian cohort study was 84.2%,awareness of the impact of specific factors across PTUDS quantiles can aid targeted interventions towards improved HCC surveillance.
