Facial Cellulitis of Dental Origin: Experiments from the University of bouakéHealth Centre (Cote d’Ivoire)

Context: Facial cellulitis of dental origin is relatively frequent and severe. Objective: The aim of this document to describe the epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of facial cellulitis of dental origin in bouaké. Methodology: This was a retrospective and descriptive study carried out in the stomatology and maxillofacial surgery department of the University of bouaké Health centre over a period of 19 months (January 2018 to October 2019). All patients with facial cellulitis of dental origin were included. The parameters studied were epidemiological, clinical, therapeutic and evolutionary. Results: 179 patients were collected (hospital prevalence of 20.79%). The average age was 34 years (min 1-year-old and max 80-year-old). The sex ratio was 1.18. Among the patients, some were craftsmen (31.28%) and others were farmers (21.79%). The favourable factors included the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory (77.65%) and traditional therapeutics (44.13%). The average number of days before consultation was 13 days (min 1 day and max 75 days). There were 7 cases of chronic cellulitis (3.91%) and 172 cases of acute cellulitis, including 107 (62.21%) circumscribed cellulitis, 51 (29.65%) diffused cellulitis, and 14 (8.14%) necrotizing fasciitis. The causal lesion was tooth decay (96.09%) and dental avulsion without antibiotherapy (3.91%). Incision and drainage was made in 145 patients (81%) necrosectomy surgery in 54 patients (30.17%). The mortality rate was 13.96%. Conclusion: Facial cellulitis of dental origin are clinically polymorphic with significant mortality prompting increased dental decay prevention actions.

background: Congenital malformations of the face are relatively frequent in the Gbèke region (Côte d’Ivoire). Objectives: Identify the epidemiological aspects, describe the management method, distinguish the anatomical-clinical aspects and identify the therapeutic methods and their results. Material and methods: A retrospective and descriptive study was carried out over a period of 8 years (2012-2019) in the Odontostomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the University Hospital Centre (bouaké) and in the “Jean baptiste Vatelot” religious hospital of bouaké. The study concerned patients whose congenital malformations of the face had undergone primary surgery. Results: 439 patients were collected, i.e. an annual frequency of 54.88 cases per year. The sex ratio was 1.07 and the mean age was 6.82 years (range 5 months to 48 years). There were 434 (98.86%) cleft lips and palates and 5 (1.14%) Tessier’s clefts. Among the cleft lip and palate, there were 214 (49.31%) cleft lip, 127 (29.26%) cleft palate and 93 (21.43%) combined cleft lip and cleft palate. Surgical treatments numbered 532 and included 293 (55.08%) cheiloplasties, 113 (21.24%) pushback uranostaphyloraphies and 90 (16.92%) double flap palatoplasties. Complications were noted in 43 cases. Conclusion: Congenital malformations of the face were managed relatively late in the Gbèkè region with satisfactory results. Ante-natal diagnosis, early psychotherapy and a better screening system should allow an improvement of the management.

The interannual variability of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) over East Africa demonstrates the complex interactions between vegetation dynamics and climatic factors. This study, which spans the period from 1983 to 2022, makes use of data from NOAA, ERA5, and CRU. It employs a range of statistical techniques, including the calculation of standardized anomalies, significance testing, composites and correlation analyses. The results demonstrated an increase in NDVI over regions including Kenya, Central and Northeastern Tanzania during wet years, with significantly higher NDVI compared to drought years. Conversely, regions such as Uganda, Rwanda, burundi, and parts of western and southern Tanzania exhibited lower NDVI during wet years than in drought years, thereby underscoring the existence of significant regional differences in vegetation responses to climatic conditions. The results of the correlation analysis indicated that there was a negative correlation between NDVI and SLHF, air temperature, and soil temperature, while positive correlations were observed between NDVI and SSHF, precipitation, and soil moisture. Furthermore, teleconnections with large-scale climate indices demonstrated modest correlations: Niño 3.4 (r = 0.33), DMI (r = 0.11), and AMO (r = 0.03). These findings emphasize the pivotal role of climatic and meteorological factors in influencing vegetation dynamics, offering insights for sustainable land management and climate adaptation strategies in East Africa.

Influence of Fermentation and Drying Practices on the Ochratoxin A Content of Cocoa beans from the Main Production Areas in Côte d’Ivoire

Côte d’Ivoire has been the world’s leading producer of cocoa beans for several decades. Apart from this production performance, the quality of the beans, which are mainly exported to the major chocolate-making countries, presents a quality problem to the point of suffering a discount on the international market. One of these quality problems is the content of ochratoxin A, a mycotoxin produced by fungi. Finally, to verify the level of contamination in beans produced in Côte d’Ivoire, a study was carried out. It consisted of collecting information on fermentation and drying times (The two major post-harvest operations) and collecting beans, which were analyzed by electrophoresis using the High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method. The results obtained show ochratoxin A contents of between 0.05 µg/kg and 0.17 µg/kg. The general level of contamination is therefore very low and below the tolerable limit which is 2 µg/kg. In addition, the correlative study between the fermentation and drying times of the beans revealed no significant influence (p by producers. This is certainly due to the development of fungi responsible for the production of ochratoxin A during the period of storage and marketing of cocoa beans in conditions of high humidity in storage enclosures. Producers need to be made more aware of the need to ensure that cocoa beans are properly dried and stored in dry areas to avoid moisture build-up, which is a source of mould growth and ochratoxin A production.

Integrating autonomous vehicles (AVs) and autonomous parking spaces (APS) marks a transformative development in urban mobility and sustainability. This paper reflects on these technologies’ historical evolution, current interdependence, and future potential through the lens of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Historically, parking systems evolved from manual designs to automated processes yet remained focused on convenience rather than sustainability. Presently, advancements in smart infrastructure and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communication have enabled AVs and APS to operate as a cohesive system, optimizing space, energy, and transportation efficiency. Looking ahead, the seamless integration of AVs and APS into broader smart city ecosystems promises to redefine urban landscapes by repurposing traditional parking infrastructure into multifunctional spaces and supporting renewable energy initiatives. These technologies align with global sustainability goals by mitigating emissions, reducing urban sprawl, and fostering adaptive land uses. This reflection highlights the need for collaborative efforts among stakeholders to address regulatory and technological challenges, ensuring the equitable and efficient deployment of AVs and APS for smarter, greener cities.
