Luminescence constitutes a unique source of insight into hot carrier processes in metals,including those in plasmonic nanostructures used for sensing and energy ***,being weak in nature,metal luminescence remains poorly understood,its microscopic origin strongly debated,and its potential for unraveling nanoscale carrier dynamics largely ***,we reveal quantum-mechanical effects in the luminescence emanating from thin monocrystalline gold ***,we present experimental evidence,supported by first-principles simulations,to demonstrate its photoluminescence origin(i.e.,radiative emission from electron/hole recombination)when exciting in the interband *** model allows us to identify changes to the measured gold luminescence due to quantum-mechanical effects as the gold film thickness is ***,such effects are observable in the luminescence signal from flakes up to 40 nm in thickness,associated with the out-of-plane discreteness of the electronic band structure near the Fermi *** qualitatively reproduce the observations with first-principles modeling,thus establishing a unified description of luminescence in gold monocrystalline flakes and enabling its widespread application as a probe of carrier dynamics and light-matter interactions in this *** study paves the way for future explorations of hot carriers and charge-transfer dynamics in a multitude of material systems.

We report the charge-changing cross sections(σ_(cc))of 24 p-shell nuclides on both hydrogen and carbon at about 900A Mev,of which^(8,9)Li,^(10–12)be,^(10,14,15)b,^(14,15,17–22)N and^(16)O on hydrogen and^(8,9)Li on carbon are for the first *** from the data set,we found a new and robust relationship between the scaling factor of the Glauber model calculations and the separation energies of the nuclei of interest on both *** allows us to deduce proton radii(R_p)for the first time from the cross sections on *** identical R_p values are deduced from both target data for the neutron-rich carbon isotopes;however,the R_p from the hydrogen target is systematically smaller in the neutron-rich nitrogen *** calls for further experimental and theoretical investigations.

Increasing evidence points to a role for killer immunoglobulin-like receptors(KIRs)in the development of autoimmune *** particular,a positive association of KIR3DS1(activating receptor)and a negative association of KIR3DL1(inhibitory receptor)alleles with ankylosing spondylitis(AS)have been reported by several ***,none of the studies analyzed these associations in the context of functionality of polymorphic *** better understand how the KIR3DL1/3DS1 genes determine susceptibility to AS,we analyzed the frequencies of alleles and genotypes encoding functional(KIR3DL1*F)and non-functional(KIR3DL1*004)*** genotyped 83 AS patients and 107 human leukocyte antigen(HLA)-b27-positive healthy controls from the Russian Caucasian population using a two-stage sequence-specific primer PCR,which distinguishes KIR3DS1,KIR3DL1*F and KIR3DL1*004 *** the patients carrying two functional KIR3DL1 alleles,those alleles were additionally genotyped to identify KIR3DL1*005 and KIR3DL1*007 alleles,which are functional but are expressed at low ***3DL1 was negatively associated with AS at the expense of KIR3DL1*F but not of KIR3DL1**** finding indicates that the inhibitory KIR3DL1 receptor protects against the development of AS and is not simply a passive counterpart of the segregating KIR3DS1 allele encoding the activating ***,analysis of genotype frequencies indicates that the presence of KIR3DS1 is a more important factor for AS susceptibility than the absence of KIR3DL1**** activation of either natural killer(nk)or T cells via the KIR3DS1 receptor can be one of the critical events in AS development,while the presence of the functional KIR3DL1 receptor has a protective ***,even individuals with a genotype that carried two inhibitory KIR3DL1 alleles expressed at high levels could develop AS.

Objective:bone metastasis is a clinically important outcome of prostate carcinoma(PC).We focused on the phenotypic and functional characterization of a particularly aggressive phenotype within the androgen-independent bone metastasis-derived PC3 cell *** cells,originated from the spontaneous conversion of a CD44-negative subpopulation,stably express the CD44 v8-10 isoform(CD44 v8-10 pos)and display stem cell-like features and a marked invasive phenotype in vitro that is lost upon CD44 v8-10 ***:Flow cytometry,enzyme-linked immunoassay,immunofluorescence,and Western blot were used for phenotypic and immunologic ***-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and functional assays were used to assess ***:Analysis of epithelial–mesenchymal transition markers showed that CD44 v8-10 pos PC3 cells surprisingly display epithelial phenotype and can undergo osteomimicry,acquiring bone cell phenotypic and behavioral *** of specific si RNA evidenced the ability of CD44 v8-10 variant to confer osteomimetic features,hence the potential to form bone-specific ***,the ability of tumors to activate immunosuppressive mechanisms which counteract effective immune responses is a sign of the aggressiveness of a *** we report that CD44 v8-10 pos cells express programmed death ligand 1,a negative regulator of anticancer immunity,and secrete exceptionally high amounts of interleukin-6,favoring osteoclastogenesis and immunosuppression in bone ***,we identified a novel pathway activated by CD44 v8-10,involving tafazzin(TAZ)and likely the Wnt/TAZ axis,known to play a role in upregulating osteomimetic ***:CD44 v8-10 could represent a marker of a more aggressive bone metastatic PC population exerting a driver role in osteomimicry in bone.A novel link between TAZ and CD44 v8-10 is also shown.

Magnetic susceptibility of Al_2RE compounds in crystal and liquid states

Magnetic susceptibility of Al2RE （RE=Y, Ce, Sm, Gd, Dy, Ho, Yb） compounds was studied experimentally in wide temperature （T=290–2000 K） and field （b=0.3–1.3 T） intervals. The abnormal increase in susceptibility beginning above the melting point was fixed for all the compositions. The values for the effective magnetic moments per RE atoms in these compounds were found to be smaller than the values typical for free ions RE3＋. The results were discussed in supposition of the directed bonds between aluminum and rare-earth atoms.

研究了在施肥总量和NPK比例相同的条件下,不同时期施肥对水稻后期功能叶光合速率以及产量、粒重、结实率、籽粒灌浆速率的影响.结果表明,氮钾分次施肥对水稻产量有明显的影响,施用粒肥能显著地提高杂交水稻的产量,其中以粒肥中配以锌硼肥和bR的处理对产量的提高作用最为显著,比仅施基肥和分蘖肥的处理产量提高达30%.粒肥能延缓功能叶的衰老,使其在水稻生长后期仍维持较高的光合速率、灌浆速率和较长的灌浆时间,提高千粒重和结实率.加强后期的养分管理对杂交稻的影响比常规稻更显著.表明杂交水稻的粒重和结实率不仅受遗传控制,也受养分管理的影响.可以通过加强生育后期的养分管理提高杂交水稻的产量.加强水稻生长发育后期的养分管理还能显著改善稻米品质,如包括Asp、Lys、Ala、Gln等的氨基酸含量,在子实肥中加入锌能够显著地提高稻米中锌含量.

Ultrafast transient microscopy is a key tool to study the photophysical properties of materials in space and time,but current implementations are limited to≈1-μm fields of view,offering no statistical information for heterogeneous ***,we demonstrated wide-field transient imaging based on multiplexed off-axis ***,we perform ultrafast microscopy in parallel around a hundred diffraction-limited excitation spots over a≈60-μm field of view,which not only automatically samples the photophysical heterogeneity of the sample over a large area but can also be used to obtain a 10-fold increase in signal-tonoise ratio by computing an average *** apply our microscope to study the carrier diffusion processes in methylammonium lead bromide *** observe strong diffusion due to the presence of hot carriers during the first picosecond and slower diffusion *** also describe how many-body kinetics can be misleadingly interpreted as strong diffusion at high excitation densities,while at weak excitation,real diffusion is ***,the vast increase in sensitivity offered by this technique benefits the study of carrier transport not only by reducing data acquisition times but also by enabling the measurement of the much smaller signals generated at low carrier densities.

Differential Expressions of Selected Activating and Inhibitory Receptors on K562-Stimulated Natural Killer (nk) Cells in HIv-1 and HIv-2 Infections

Context: The functional activity of nk cells depends on the balance between the engagement of activating and inhibitory receptors on the cell surface with their ligands, which enables them to kill infected cells. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare expressions of selected activating and inhibitory receptors on stimulated nk cells in HIv-1 and HIv-2 infections. Methods: PbMCs were analysed for activating (nkp30, nkp44, nkp46) and inhibitory (CD158a, CD158b, p70) receptor expressions in 30 HIv-1, 30 HIv-2 and 30 HIv uninfected healthy control (HC) subjects by flow cytometry after stimulating with K562 cells. Results: There was an expression of other receptors following an already in vitro engagement of nk cells with K562 cells. Higher expression of the activating receptors, nkp44 (p = 0.029) and nkp46 (p = 0.032) on nk cells from HIv-2 compared to HIv-1 infected individuals but similar nkp30 expression (p = 0.980). The levels of expression of inhibitory receptor CD158a were similar between HIv-1 and HIv-2 infected subjects (p = 0.309) but there was significant up-regulation of inhibitory receptors p70 (p = 0.010) and CD158b (p = 0.05) in HIv-1 compared to HIv-2 subjects. Conclusion: Despite the in vitro engagement of nk cells with stimulating K562 cells, our data showed differential expressions of other selected activating and inhibitory receptors in HIv-1 and HIv-2 infected subjects.
