Diabetes mellitus(DM),the 10th leading cause of death worldwide,is a major and growing public health problem estimated to affect more than 578 million people in 2030 and 700 million people in 2045[1].In diabetic animals,protein glycation and glucose autoxidation generate free radicals,which cause lipid ***,reactive oxygen species(ROS)can quickly accumulate,decrease antioxidant activity,and cause deterioration of kidney and liver function.A disrupted redox balance in cells also damages crucial biomolecules such as deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA),proteins and *** stress(OS)is elevated in diabetes mellitus and may be a major factor in the development and evolution of the typical long-term pathophysiology of diabetes and its associated complications[2].

Within the“hydrogen chain”,the high-temperature water gas shift reaction represents a key step to improve the H2 yield and adjust the H2/COx ratio to fit the constraints of downstream *** the commercial application of the high-temperature water gas shift,novel catalysts characterized by higher intrinsic activity(especially at low temperatures),good thermal stability,and no chromium content are *** this work,we propose bimetallic iron-copper catalysts supported on ceria,characterized by low active phase content(iron oxide+copper oxide<5 wt%).Fresh and used samples were characterized by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry,X-ray diffraction,nitrogen physisorption,scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy,and temperature programmed reduction in hydrogen to relate physicochemical features and catalytic *** sample with iron/copper≈1 and 4 wt%active phase content showed the best catalytic properties in terms of turnover frequency,no methane formation,and *** unique properties were due to both strong iron-copper interaction and strong metal-support interaction,leading to outstanding redox behavior.

Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are common medications within the practice of gastroenterology. These drugs, which act through the irreversible inhibition of the hydrogen/potassium pump (H+/K+-ATPase pump) in the gastric parietal cells, are used in the treatment of several acid-related disorders. PPIs are generally well tolerated but, through the long-term reduction of gastric acid secretion, can increase the risk of an imbalance in gut microbiota composition (i.e., dysbiosis). The gut microbiota is a complex ecosystem in which microbes coexist and interact with the human host. Indeed, the resident gut bacteria are needed for multiple vital functions, such as nutrient and drug metabolism, the production of energy, defense against pathogens, the modulation of the immune system and support of the integrity of the gut mucosal barrier. The bacteria are collected in communities that vary in density and composition within each segment of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Therefore, every change in the gut ecosystem has been connected to an increased susceptibility or exacerbation of various GI disorders. The aim of this review is to summarize the recently available data on PPI-related microbiota alterations in each segment of the GI tract and to analyze the possible involvement of PPIs in the pathogenesis of several specific GI diseases.

The manuscript deals with our studies and experiences in the assessment of cytoskeleton in different cellular models and *** immunofluorescent study of several cytoskeletal proteins was relevant in the evaluation of a therapy for osteoarthritis,in case of alkaptonuria and in testing the efficacy of docetaxel in neuroblastoma cancer cells leading to apoptosis.A relevant part of our experience focus on the study of cytoskeleton in seminiferous epithelium and spermatozoa,identifying alterations affecting blood-testis barrier after a silver nanoparticle treatment,chromosomal segregation in case of varicocele,sperm motility and diagnosing systematic sperm defects as“Primary ciliary dyskinesia”and“Dysplasia of the fibrous sheath”.The evaluation of cytoskeleton represents a specific and sensitive analysis in establishing the health status of different cells.

The fossil history of turtle and whale barnacles(Coronuloidea:Chelonibiidae,Platylepadidae,Coronulidae and†Emersoniidae)is fragmentary and has only been investigated in *** inferences and molecular phylogenetic analyses on extant specimens suggest that the roots of whale barnacles(Coronulidae)are to be found among the chelonibiid turtle barnacles,but the hard-part modifications that enabled early coronuloids to attach to the cetacean skin are still largely to be ***,we reappraise a fossil chelonibiid specimen from the Miocene of insular Tanzania that was previously referred to the living species Chelonibia *** largely forgotten specimen is here described as the holotype of the new species†Chelonibia *** similar to ***,†*** exhibits obvious external longitudinal parietal canals occurring in-between external longitudinal parietal septa that abut outwards to form T-shaped flanges,a character so far regarded as proper of the seemingly more derived Coronulidae and *** with these features,the presence of a substrate imprint on the shell exterior indicates that†*** grasped its host’s integument in much the same way as coronulids and platylepadids,albeit without the development of macroscopic parietal buttresses and *** section analyses of the inner parietal architecture of some extant and extinct coronuloids conclusively demonstrate that vestiges of comparable external parietal microstructures are present in some living members of *** observation strengthens the unity of Coronuloidea while significantly contributing to our understanding of the evolution of the coronuloid shell structure in adapting to a diverse spectrum of hosts.

Outstanding progress regarding the pathophysiology of Crohn's disease (CD) has led to the development of innovative therapeutic concepts. Numerous controlled trials have been performed in CD. This review concentrates on the results of randomized,placebo-controlled trials,and meta-analyses when available,that provide the highest degree of evidence. Current guidelines on the management of CD recommend a step-up approach to treatment involving the addition of more powerful therapies as the severity of disease and refractoriness to therapy increase. The advent of biological drugs has opened new therapeutic horizons for treating CD,modifying the treatment goals. However,the large majority of patients with CD will be managed through conventional therapy,even if they are a prelude to biological therapy.

Dam-break analysis is of great importance in mountain environment,especially where reservoirs are located upstream of densely populated areas and hydraulic hazard should be assessed for land planning ***,there is a need to identify suitable operative tools which may differ from the ones used in flat flood-prone *** paper shows the results provided by a 1D and a 2D model based on the Shallow Water Equations(SWE) for dam-break wave propagation in alpine *** 1D model takes advantage of a topographic toolkit that includes an algorithm for pre-processing the Digital Elevation Model(DEM) and of a novel criterion for the automatic cross-section space *** 2D model is FLO-2D,a commercial software widely used for flood routing in mountain *** order to verify the predictive effectiveness of these numerical models,the test case of the Cancano dam-break has been recovered from the historical study of De Marchi(1945),which provides a unique laboratory data set concerning the consequences of the potential collapse of the former Cancano dam(Northern Italy).The measured discharge hydrograph at the dam also provides the data to test a simplified method recently proposed for the characterization of the hydrograph following a sudden dam-break.
