In the context of this work,a prototype hybrid photoacoustic(PA)and optical system for the on-line monitoring of laser cleaning procedures is *** developed apparatus has enabled the detection of MHz frequency range acoustic waves generated during the laser ablation *** intrinsically generated PA signals combined with high resolution optical images provide the opportunity to follow the cleaning process accurately and in real *** mock-ups have been used to demonstrate the potential of this novel technique with emphasis given to applications that refer to the restoration of Cultural Heritage(CH)*** this purpose,the real time monitoring of the laser assisted removal of unwanted encrustation from stonework has been achieved using IR and UV *** novel approach has allowed for the precise determination of the critical number of laser pulses required for the elimination of the encrustation layer,while highlighting the dominant ablation mechanisms according to the irradiation *** promising results obtained using the prototype hybrid PA and optical system can open up new perspectives in the monitoring of laser cleaning interventions,promoting an improved restoration outcome.

Density functional theory calculations have been performed to investigate the structural, electronic, and CO2adsorption properties of 55-atom bimetallic Cu Ni nanoparticles（NPs） in core-shell and decorated architectures,as well as of their monometallic counterparts. Our results revealed that with respect to the monometallic Cu55and Ni55parents, the formation of decorated Cu12Ni43and core-shell Cu42Ni13are energetically favorable. We found that CO2chemisorbs on monometallic Ni55, core-shell Cu13Ni42, and decorated Cu12Ni43and Cu43Ni12,whereas, it physisorbs on monometallic Cu55and core-shell Cu42Ni13. The presence of surface Ni on the NPs is key in strongly adsorbing and activating the CO2molecule（linear to bent transition and elongation of C=O bonds）. This activation occurs through a charge transfer from the NPs to the CO2molecule, where the local metal d-orbital density localization on surface Ni plays a pivotal role. This work identifies insightful structureproperty relationships for CO2activation and highlights the importance of keeping a balance between NP stability and CO2adsorption behavior in designing catalytic bimetallic NPs that activate CO2.

Head and neck cancer(HNC) represents the sixth most common malignancy and accounts for approximately 6% of new cancer cases annually worldwide. As life expectancy constantly increases, the onset of HNC in patients older than 65 years of age at diagnosis is not rare and up to one fourth of cases occurs in patients older that 70 years at age. Because elderly cancer patients are severely under-represented in clinical trials, there is a clear need to address the particular aspects of this specific patient group, especially in the context of novel multidisciplinary therapeutic approaches. The frailty of elderly patients with HNC is attributed to the high incidence of smoking and alcohol abuse in this malignancy and the presence of substantial cardiovascular, respiratory or metabolic comorbidities. In the current work, I provide an overview of current and emerging treatment approaches, in elderly patients with HNC. In particular, I discuss modern surgical approaches that improve radical excision rates while preserving functionality, the incorporation of modern radiotherapeutic techniques and the introduction of novel chemotherapeutic combinations and molecular targeted agents in an effort to reduce toxicity without compromising efficacy. Finally, there is an urgent need to increase accrual and active participation of elderly patients with HNC in clinical trials, including biomarker evaluation in biopsy specimens towards an individualized therapeutic approach.

Extensive laryngeal infiltration from a neglected papillary thyroid carcinoma: A case report

Papillary carcinoma of the thyroid is the commonest type of thyroid cancer. Laryngeal infiltration from papillary thyroid carcinoma is extremely rare, with only a few cases of partial invasion described in the literature. We present a very unusual case of complete infiltration of both thyroid and cricoid cartilages from a neglected papillary thyroid carcinoma in a 59-year-old male. This sequel resulted from refusal of the patient to undergo treatment when initially diagnosed. An invasion to such an extent has not been described in the literature before, and in this case warranted a total laryngectomy followed by radioactive iodine. Prompt management of papillary carcinomas is crucial for avoiding such complications. Future guidelines should include management options for the patients who deny treatment initially.

Determination of urine-derived odorous compounds in a source separation sanitation system

Source separation sanitation systems have attracted more and more attention ***, separate urine collection and treatment could induce odor issues, especially in large scale application. In order to avoid such issues, it is necessary to monitor the odor related compounds that might be generated during urine storage. This study investigated the odorous compounds that emitted from source-separated human urine under different hydrolysis conditions. Batch experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of temperature, stale/fresh urine ratio and urine dilution on odor emissions. It was found that ammonia, dimethyl disulfide, allyl methyl sulfide and 4-heptanone were the main odorous compounds generated from human urine, with headspace concentrations hundreds of times higher than their respective odor thresholds. Furthermore, the high temperature accelerated urine hydrolysis and liquid–gas mass transfer, resulting a remarkable increase of odor emissions from the urine solution. The addition of stale urine enhanced urine hydrolysis and expedited odor emissions. On the contrary, diluted urine emitted less odorous compounds ascribed to reduced concentrations of odorant precursors. In addition,this study quantified the odor emissions and revealed the constraints of urine source separation in real-world applications. To address the odor issue, several control strategies are recommended for odor mitigation or elimination from an engineering perspective.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic has had a major impact on pediatric *** infection is often asymptomatic and atypical in children,while overlapping presentations with other infectious diseases generate additional diagnostic *** high probability of missed pediatric cases and the invasive nature of surgery generate great concern for widespread transmission in this *** guidelines suggest that triage of cases should be made on a case-by-case basis by a multidisciplinary team of *** can be assisted by classifying cases as elective,urgent,or an emergency according to the risks of delaying their surgical management.A workflow diagram should ideally guide the management of all cases from admission to *** surgery is necessary,all staff should use appropriate personal protective equipment,and high-risk practices,such as aerosol-generating tools or procedures,should be avoided if ***,carefully designed organizational protocols should be established to minimize transmission while ensuring the uninterrupted operation of pediatric surgery *** example,surgical teams can be divided into small weekly rotating groups,and healthcare workers should be continuously monitored for COVID-19 ***,team protocols in the operating room can optimize communication and improve adherence to personal protective equipment *** operating rooms,pediatric intensive care units,and surgical wards should be specifically designed for suspected or confirmed COVID-19 ***,transportation of patients should be minimal and follow designated short *** these measures can help mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on pediatric surgery units.

In this review authors will analyze Herzberg’s motivation theory as one of the content theories of *** attempts to explain the factors that motivate individuals through identifying and satisfying their individual needs,desires,and the aims pursued to satisfy these *** theory of motivation is known as a two-factor content *** is based upon the deceptively simple idea that motivation can be dichotomized into hygiene factors and motivation factors and is often referred to as a“two-need system”.These two separate“needs”are the need to avoid unpleasantness and discomfort and,at the other end of the motivational scale,the need for personal development.A shortage of the factors that positively encourage employees(the motivating factors)will cause employees to focus on other,non-job related“hygiene”*** most important part of this theory of motivation is that the main motivating factors are not in the environment but in the intrinsic value and satisfaction gained from the job *** follows therefore that to motivate an individual,a job itself must be challenging,have scope for enrichment,and be of interest to the ***(sometimes called“satisfiers”)are those factors directly concerned with the satisfaction gained from a job.
