AIM: To investigate the change in eukaryotic gene expression profile in Caco-2 cells after infection with strains of Escherichia coli and commensal probiotic bacteria. METHODS: A 19 200 gene/expressed sequence tag gene chip was used to examine expression of genes after infection of Caco-2 cells with strains of normal flora E. coli,Lactobacillus plantarum,and a combination of the two. RESULTS: The cDNA microarray revealed up-regulation of 155 and down-regulation of 177 genes by E. coli . L. plantarum up-regulated 45 and down-regulated 36 genes. During mixed infection,27 genes were up-regulated and 59 were down-regulated,with nullification of stimulatory/inhibitory effects on most of the genes. Expression of several new genes was noted in this group. CONCLUSION: The commensal bacterial strains used in this study induced the expression of a large number of genes in colonocyte-like cultured cells and changed the expression of several genes involved in important cellular processes such as regulation of transcription,protein biosynthesis,metabolism,cell adhesion,ubiquitination,and apoptosis. Such changes induced by the presence of probiotic bacteria may shape the physiologic and pathologic responses they trigger in the host.

Effect of a Guaiazulene-Containing Ointment on Nipple and Areola Area Health of Women

Guaiazulene-containing ointments are routinely used for breast care during breastfeeding. It has also been proposed that nipple and areola area of non-breastfeeding women might benefit from use of this azulene. In a study with 51 women, it was investigated whether the use of a guaiazulene-containing ointment (Garmastan?) would improve look, elasticity and sensitivity of nipple and areola area within 4 month daily application. About one third of study participants reported improvement in sensitivity, elasticity and look of the investigated area of the breast. Assessment of doctors revealed a clear improvement in elasticity and sensitivity of the nipple and areola area over study period. Nearly all women wished to continue the use of the ointment after end of the study. In conclusion, the use of Garmastan? ointment is able to improve sensitivity and elasticity of the nipple and areola area of the breasts of non-breastfeeding women.

Y2O3:Yb^(3+)5 at%ceramics have been synthesized by the reactive sintering method using different commercial yttria powders(Alfa-Micro,Alfa-Nano,and ITO-V)as raw *** has been shown that all Y2O3 starting powders consist from agglomerates up to 5-7 μm in size which are fonned from 25-60 nm primary ***-energy ball milling allows to significantly decreasing the median particle size D50 below 500 nm regardless of the commercial powders *** experiments indicate that powder mixtures fabricated from Alfa-Nano yttria powders have the highest sintering activity,while(Y0.86La0.09Yb0.05)2O3 ceramics sintered at 1750℃for 10 h are characterized by the highest transmittance of about 45%.Y2O3:Yb^(3+)ceramics have been obtained by the reactive sintering at 1750-1825℃using Alfa-Nano Y2O3 powders and La2O3+Zr02 as a complex sintering *** effects of the sintering temperature on densification processes,microstructure,and optical properties of Y2O3:Yb^(3+)5 at%ceramics have been *** has been shown that Zr^(4+)ions decrease the grain growth of Y2O3:Yb^(3+)ceramics for sintering temperatures 1750-1775℃.Further increasing the sintering temperature was accompanied by a sharp increase of the average grain size of ceramics referred to changes of structure and chemical composition of grain boundaries,as well as their *** has been determined that the optimal sintering temperature to produce high-dense yttria ceramics with transmittance of 79%-83%and average grain size of 8μm is 1800℃.Finally,laser emission at〜1030.7 nm with a slope efficiency of 10%was obtained with the most transparent Y203:Yb^(3+)5 at%ceramics sintered.

The present study aims to evaluate the competition between the modern management and the ethno-management of the water resources from Eastern Romania. The employment of specific hydrological, ethno-archaeological and spatial analysis methods yielded well delimited specific areas, corresponding to the levels of NaCl present in rivers and springs. The waters from the mountainous and piedmont areas of the Carpathians are directly influenced by the presence of salt deposits. The reduced salinity of the larger water arteries is due to the important liquid discharges that dilute the salts. The recent ethno-archaeological investigations that focused on the approximately 200 salt springs which were identified in the sub-Carpathian areas of Moldavia, have highlighted a well-structured ethno-management system. The modern management of the fresh water resources, developed under governmental and local communal financial support, must be continued with increased intensity. Conversely, an involvement into the ethno-management of the salt-water springs must be generally prohibited;only seldomly, in cases of uttermost necessity, can it interfere with the 8.000-years-old ethno-management of these salt-water springs.

研究利用算法设计异质结构,并利用高速机器人三维空间打印技术对其进行打印。通过采用自底向上的方法,我们实现了材料在矩阵场中的非均匀分布,该矩阵场是根据向量场的方向性定向的。生成方面设计了一个基于性能的工作流,以提高打印速度,避免碰撞,提高质量果。异质几何体将转化为变形体素,适于空间印刷。打印所用喷嘴是为了在制造过程中避免与已有障碍物的碰撞和自碰撞而设计的。打印结果的热能信息被物理传感器捕获,并反馈电脑并被用来优化机器人的工具路径。机器人打印技术使研究者获得更强的拓扑结构控制能力,三维FDM也极大提高了制造速度。

The aim of this work is to develop secondary end use applications of waste PET by a process for improving the asphalt quality using different mixtures of oligomers obtained from waste PET by chemical depolymerization. We started the research by the depolymerization process of waste PET by glycolysis. Experiments were carried out in a continuos stirring glass reactor at a temperature of 180℃ and normal pressure. The reaction mixture consisted of 5 g of ground PET (2-5 mm), 100 mL of solvent reagent (monoethylene glycol, MEG, or polyethylene glycol, PEG) and 1% of zinc acetate as catalyst. The chemical depolymerization products were identified by gel permeation chromatography and the main products are the glycol-terephthalic acid-glycol (GTG) adduct (53 wt.%) and GTGTG (29%) "dimer" respectively. The rest is composed of different low polymerization degree compounds like GTGTGTG, GTGTGTGTG or GT esters. Finally, each type of the asphalt was mixed with different proportions (5%-30 wt%) of waste PET depolymerization products and the compounded asphalts (CA) were characterized. The CA rheological properties (softening point, penetration index, and Frass brittle point) are related with chemical characteristics of asphalt, the type of solvent agent and the quantity of depolymerization product added. An improved quality of the compounded asphalt is observed for two of three types of tested asphalt, and we suppose that chemical composition related with the type of depolymerization product (adduct) is responsible for this behavior.

Deep learning (DL) has seen an exponential development in recent years, with major impact in many medical fields, especially in the field of medical image. The purpose of the work converges in determining the importance of each component, describing the specificity and correlations of these elements involved in achieving the precision of interpretation of medical images using DL. The major contribution of this work is primarily to the updated characterisation of the characteristics of the constituent elements of the deep learning process, scientific data, methods of knowledge incorporation, DL models according to the objectives for which they were designed and the presentation of medical applications in accordance with these tasks. Secondly, it describes the specific correlations between the quality, type and volume of data, the deep learning patterns used in the interpretation of diagnostic medical images and their applications in medicine. Finally presents problems and directions of future research. Data quality and volume, annotations and labels, identification and automatic extraction of specific medical terms can help deep learning models perform image analysis tasks. Moreover, the development of models capable of extracting unattended features and easily incorporated into the architecture of DL networks and the development of techniques to search for a certain network architecture according to the objectives set lead to performance in the interpretation of medical images.

A 61 years old man with fatty liver disease and history of recent urinary infection was admitted to the Department of Internal Medicine for severe back pain and fever. The blood culture exams were positive for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and later the cervical spine MRI showed an anterior epidural abscess associated with medullary compression. The patient was kept under antibiotic therapy and a decompressive surgery was required. Spinal epidural abscess presentation can be subtle with its presenting complaints ranging in severity from nonspecific back pain to marked weakness. This case report highlights the importance of an early diagnosis in order to avoid a devastating outcome.
