Background:Surgical site infections are the most frequent type of preventable hospital acquired infections with a serious and undesirable outcome of surgery associated with increase morbidity,mortality rate,hospital stay,readmission and excess *** site infection prevention is one of the most important challenge in delivering optimal nursing *** suggest that the nurses’practices of surgical site infection prevention is not well ***,there is clearly paucity of information,in Africa including the study ***:The aim of this study was to assess surgical site infection prevention practices and associated factors among nurses working in government hospitals of Harari Regional State and Dire Dawa City Administration,Eastern Ethiopia from March 01 to 28,*** and Materials:An institutional based cross-sectional study design was employed for a total of 515 *** random sampling method was used to select study *** were collected using pretested structured self-administered questionnaire supplemented by *** were checked,coded,entered and cleaned using Epi-data version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 20 for *** and multivariate analysis were undertaken and P values less than 0.05 at 95%confidence interval were considered as statistically ***:The overall self-reported level of SSI prevention practice was found to be 40.8%(95%CI:36.9%,45.4%).Nurses with BSc and above[Adjusted odds ratio(AOR)=2.52,95%CI(1.14,5.54)],trained on infection prevention[AOR=2.22,95%CI(1.29,3.82)],good knowledge[AOR=2.21,95%CI(1.32,3.71)],good attitude[AOR=5.11,95%CI(3.05,8.57)],got supply of personal protective equipment[AOR=2.57,95%CI(1.46,4.49)],had management support[AOR=3.41,95%CI(1.90,6.12)],experience of 5 to 10 years[AOR=5.38,95%CI(2.82,10.27)]and≥11 years[AOR=3.48,95%CI(1.47,8.25)],were found to be statistically and positively associated with nurses SSI prevention ***

Species composition, stand structure, and regeneration status of tree species in dry Afromontane forests of Awi Zone, northwestern Ethiopia

Species composition,structure,and regeneration status of trees were assessed in five dry Afromontane *** each of the forests,trees having≥5 cm diameter at breast height were identified and measured in 80 quadrats(20×20m^(2)).We compared tree species composition and similarities,stem densities,frequencies,basal area and importance value index of *** index was calculated to 13.3%in the least disturbed and 22.5%in highly disturbed forests.A total of 1,655 individuals representing 38 species and 28 families were *** tree densities varied from 364.1 to 664.1stem ha^(−1) with an average basal area of 20.7m^(2) ha^(−1).The analysis showed significant differences in basal areas of tree species between the least and highly disturbed *** densities ranged from 2000 to 8162.5 stem ha^(−1) and sapling densities ranged from 512.5 to 2562.5 stem ha^(−1).The anthropogenic disturbances revealed high degradation of population structure and regeneration statutes of the trees in the studied forest *** conclusion,the study provided empirical results on the dominance,population structure,importance value and regeneration status of tree species,which would be instrumental for the development of successful rehabilitation strategies for the studied forests.

Impact of tree litter identity, litter diversity and habitat quality on litter decomposition rates in tropical moist evergreen forest

Background:Attempts to restore degraded highlands by tree planting are common in East ***,up till now,little attention has been given to effects of tree species choice on litter decomposition and nutrient ***:In this study,three indigenous and two exotic tree species were selected for a litter decomposition *** objective was to identify optimal tree species combinations and tree diversity levels for the restoration of degraded land via enhanced litter *** were installed in June 2019 into potential restoration sites(disturbed natural forest and forest plantation)and compared to intact natural *** tested tree leaf litters included five monospecific litters,ten mixtures of three species and one mixture of five *** green and rooibos tea were used for comparison.A total of 1,033 litters were retrieved for weight loss analysis after one,three,six,and twelve months of ***:The finding indicates a significant effect of both litter quality and litter diversity on litter *** nitrogen-fixing native tree Millettia ferruginea showed a comparable decomposition rate as the fast decom-posing green *** exotic conifer Cupressus lusitanica and the native recalcitrant Syzygium guineense have even a lower decomposition rate than the slowly decomposing rooibos tea.A significant correlation was observed be-tween litter mass loss and initial leaf litter chemical ***,we found positive non-additive ef-fects for litter mixtures including nutrient-rich and negative non-additive effects for litter mixtures including poor leaf litters ***:These findings suggest that both litter quality and litter diversity play an important role in decom-position processes and therefore in the restoration of degraded tropical moist evergreen forest.
