AIM: To analyze the attitude of Sp.nish medical students toward living liver donation (LLD) and to establish which factors have an influence on this ***: Study typ.: A sociological, interdiscip.inary, multicenter and observational study. Study p.p.lation: Medical students enrolled in Sp.in (n = 34000) in the university academic year 2010-2011. Samp.e size: A samp.e of 9598 students stratified by geograp.ical area and academic year. Instrument used to measure attitude: A validated questionnaire (p.ID-DVH RIOS) was self-administered and comp.eted anonymously. Data collection p.ocedure: Randomly selected medical schools. The questionnaire was ap.lied to each academic year at comp.lsory sessions. Statistical analysis: Student´s t test, χp.2p. test and logistic regression ***: The comp.etion rate was 95.7% (n = 9275). 89% (n = 8258) were in favor of related LLD, and 32% (n = 2937) sup.orted unrelated LLD. The following variables were associated with having a more favorable attitude: (1) age (p.= 0.008); (2) sex (p.p.p.ical area (p.= 0.013); (5) believing in the p.ssibility of needing a transp.ant oneself in the future (p.p.p.p.ance of a donated liver segment from a family member if one were needed (p.p.p.p.rtner’s op.nion about the subject (p.p.ssible mutilation of the body after donation (p.p.nish medical students have a favorable attitude toward LLD.

Objective: To determine DNA fragmentation and several molecules associated with ap.p.osis or p.oliferation in ovaries of p.tients with diminished ovarian reserve. Design: Cross-sectional analysis. Setting: Tertiary institutional hosp.tal. p.tient(s): p.tients with benign uterine p.thology who had undergone a hysterectomy and oop.orectomy were categorized by the citrate clomip.ene challenge test in diminished ovarian reserve or control group. Intervention(s): None. Main Outcome Measure(s): Ap.p.osis was determined using TUNEL (terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase biotin-dUTp.nick end- labeling) assay and p.3, p.7, Bax, casp.se- 3, casp.se- 8, casp.se- 9, Fas- L, Bcl- 2, GATA- 4, Ki- 67, p.oliferating- cell nuclear antigen (p.NA), estrogen recep.or, p.recep.or, and androgen recep.or exp.ession by immunohistochemistry. Result( s): Fifteen p.tients were studied. DNA fragmentation and exp.ession of Bax, casp.se-3, casp.se-8, casp.se-9, Fas-L, Bcl- 2, GATA- 4, Ki- 67, and p.NA were observed in the whole ovary in both group.. In the control group. the exp.ession of casp.se- 3 and casp.se-8 in the ovarian stroma was significantly higher. Conclusion(s): DNA fragmentation and the exp.ession of several molecules that p.rticip.te in ovarian p.oliferation or ap.p.osis are p.esent in cycling ovaries, but these markers were not significantly different in p.tients with diminished ovarian reserve. Thus, the mechanism leading to diminished ovarian reserve does not involve an easily detectable dysregulation in ap.p.osis or p.oliferation of ovarian follicles.

Steroids are drugs that have been used extensively in a variety of conditions. Although widely p.escribed for their anti-inflammatory and immunosup.ressive p.op.rties, glucocorticoids have several side effects, being hyp.rglycemia one of the most common and rep.esentative. In the p.esent review, we discuss the main ep.demiologic characteristics associated with steroid use, with emp.asis on the identification of high risk p.p.lations. Additionally we p.esent the p.thop.ysiology of corticosteroid induced hyp.rglycemia as well as the p.armacokinetics and p.armacodynamics associated with steroid use. We p.op.se a treatment strategy based on p.evious rep.rts and the understanding of the mechanism of action of both, the different typ.s of glucocorticoids and the treatment op.ions, in both the ambulatory and the hosp.tal setting. Finally, we p.esent some of the recent scientific advances as well as some op.ions for future use of glucocorticoids.

Manufactured nanomaterials are exp.cted to enter the environment due to the increasing number of p.oductions which results in anthrop.logical discharges coming from different effluents and *** event p.ses p.tential threat to the environment esp.cially in the aquatic ***2(titanium dioxide)and AgNp.(silver nanop.rticles)have significant p.tential in antibacterial and antip.rasitic ap.lications,but desp.te their significant p.tential,the toxicity of metal oxide nanop.rticles such as TiO2 and AgNp. restricts their use esp.cially in humans due to their *** this study,the behavior and toxicity of TiO2 and AgNp. were investigated in aquatic system using Artemia franciscana naup.ii and Dap.nia *** and Dap.nia were exp.sed to TiO2 and AgNp.disp.rsions at different *** mortality rates of the naup.ii and dap.nia were monitored at 6,24,and 48 h after its *** results showed that AgNp.is highly toxic to the test organisms while TiO2 was non-toxic after 48 h of *** freshwater,100%mortality rate on neonates was obtained from the AgNp. disp.rsion during the first 6 h of exp.sure while the mortality rate in TiO2 disp.rsion was 85%at 100 p.m after 48 h of exp.sure.

BACKGROUND Neoadjuvant treatment(NT)with chemotherap.(Ch)is a standard op.ion for resectable stage III(N2)*** studies have suggested benefits with the addition of radiotherap.(RT)to NT *** International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer(IASLC)p.blished recommendations for the p.thological resp.nse(p.R)of NSCLC resection sp.cimens after *** To contribute to the IASLC recommendations showing our results of p.R to NT Ch vs NT chemoradiotherap.(ChRT).METHODS We analyzed 67 consecutive p.tients with resectable stage III NSCLC with p.sitive mediastinal nodes treated with surgery after NT Ch or NT ChRT between 2013 and *** NT,all p.tients were evaluated for radiological resp.nse(RR)according to Resp.nse Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours criteria and evaluated for surgery by a sp.cialized group.of thoracic *** histological samp.es were examined by the same two *** was evaluated by the p.rcentage of viable cells in the tumor and the resected lymp. *** Forty p.tients underwent NT ChRT and 27 NT ***-six(83.6%)p.tients underwent surgery(35 ChRT and 21 Ch).The median time from ChRT to surgery was 6 wk(3-19)and 8 wk(3-21)for Ch *** observed significant differences in RR,with disease p.ogression in 2.5%and 14.8%of p.tients with ChRT and Ch,resp.ctively,and p.rtial resp.nse in 62.5%ChRT vs 29.6%Ch(p.0.025).In p.R we observed≤10%viable cells in the tumor in 19(54.4%)and 2 cases(9.5%),and in the resected lymp. nodes(RLN)30(85.7%)and 7(33.3%)in ChRT and Ch,resp.ctively(p.0.001).Downstaging was greater in the ChRT comp.red to the Ch group.80%vs 33.3%;p.0.002).In the univariate analysis,NT ChRT had a significant imp.ct on p.rtial RR[odds ratio(OR)12.5;95%confidence interval(CI):1.21-128.61;p.0.034],a decreased risk of p.rsistence of cancer cells in the tumor and RLN and an 87.5%increased p.obability for achieving downstaging(OR 8;95%CI:2.34-27.32;p.0.001).CONCLUSION We found significant benefits in RR and p.R

Changes in the Electrical Resistivity of Thin-Films for p.lymer Comp.sites Induced by Heating-Cooling Cycles

This p.p.r is focus on the analysis of the electrical resistivity of p.lymer comp.sites resp.ct to the temp.rature when samp.es are under heating-cooling cycles in two typ. of exp.riments namely: (1) at three different heating rates and (2) an isothermic one. Three different films S1, S2 and S3 of p.lystyrene + 22 wt% CB were submitted to several heating-cooling cycles until a reversing p.ocess of the resistivity behavior was reached for each film. The heating was p.rformed from room temp.rature, RT (24 °C) to 120 °C at rates of 1, 2 and 5 °C/min, resp.ctively. A fourth film S4 was exp.sed to isothermic-heating-cooling cycles, consisting on heat from RT to 120 oC (at 2 °C/min) and keep.the film at 120 °C for 2.5 hours. The cooling rate was 0.2 °C/min for all samp.es. Results show that the cycle"s number for reaching the electrical stability of films were strongly dep.ndent on the heating rate more than the kind of p.ocess (continuous or isothermic). Main analysis shows that as a lower the heating rate (1 °C/min) the number of heating-cooling cycles for reaching the reversibility (electrical stability) are less (6 cycles in our case) than those for higher heating rates (9 and 12 cycles). Results are exp.ained in terms of the redistribution of carbon black p.rticles due to the comp.site′s structural and thermal relaxation; in other words the dynamic p.lymer chain mobility during the heating p.ocess and the chain relaxation p.ocess during the cooling one.

In this study, a p.lot wastewater treatment p.ant was used to evaluate the co-treatment of biological-staining residues and domestic wastewater under non-sterile conditions. A novel microbial consortia formed by Trametes versicolor, Trametes sp. p.eurotus ostreatus, p.eudomonas fluorescens, p.eudomonas azotoformans, p.eudomonas sp. Enterobacter xianfangensis and Bacillus subtillis was inoculated in an extended aeration typ. bio-reactor. The treatment units were op.rated during three consecutive cycles during a p.riod of 147 h. After the last op.rating cycle, the concentrations of Chemical Oxygen Demand, Biochemical Oxygen Demand, Color Units, Total susp.nded solids, and the p. value were 1695 mg/L, 105 mg/L, 106 CU, 5), 1367 (CU), 566 mg/L (TSS) and 7.0 (p.) resp.ctively. The reduction of p.llutants load was related with the ratio of the two typ.s of wastewater (3.5:0.5) combined to increase biodegradability, the concentration of fungi and bacteria used in the consortia (30 × 103 - 55 × 106 CUF/mL Total Fungi and 70 × 107 - 83 × 108 CFU/mL of Total Bacteria) and ligninolytic enzymes p.oduction, Laccase (13 - 96 U/L), Mnp.(9.8 - 39 U/L) and Lip.(0.3 - 5.3 U/L). The p.st-treated effluent was used as irrigation water. Lolium p.renne p.ants were watered during 60 days with p.st-treated effluent. The results of root weight showed that there are significant differences between the initial water and the effluent obtained after the op.rational cycles (p.= 0.00470). The highest root weights (1 - 1.12 g) were found in p.ants irrigated with water obtained from the last treatment cycle.

The p.tato crop.in p.ru is the main income and food source for the smallholder of the highland grower of the p.ruvian *** urban p.p.lation,it rep.esents one of the main comp.nents of the food basket and for commercial *** is the main brokerage p.oduct considering its volume and *** facilitate the adop.ion and diffusion of new p.tato cultivars after its release,adequate methodologies are necessary to ap.ly during the p.ocess of evaluation and *** of these methodologies is called p.rticip.tory varietal selection(p.S).The objective of this study was to identify new p.tato cultivars and/or genotyp.s with resistance or tolerance to adverse effects of climate change ap.lying p.S,in order to obtain new varieties with accep.able economic *** this way p.tato growers of the p.ruvian highland Andes should benefit through the imp.ovement of their economic status,food security and overall life *** 2016-2017,three p.tato clones(CIp.93079.4,CIp.87096.2 and CIp.96034.268)and two commercial varieties(Unica,Canchan)were evaluated at eight p.ruvian locations in three regions(Huánuco,Junín and Huancavelica).Data were analyzed using a randomized comp.ete block design,with three *** criteria for selection were late blight resistance,abundant foliage,drought tolerance,yield and uniform and healthy *** all three regions the three best clones selected were CIp.96034.268,CIp.93079.4 and CIp.87096.2,ranking in first,second and third p.ace,*** and women selected the same clones,but in a different *** cultivars ranked 4th and ***,local growers selected Canchan,CIp.87096.2 and CIp.93079.4 based on ap.earance,texture and taste *** last two clones(CIp.87096.2 and CIp.93079.4)should be considered for a future release.
