Resolving Myop.c Foveoretinal Detachment by Fovea-Saving Internal Limiting Membrane p.eling: A Case-Series Rep.rt

Background: In highly myop.c eyes, myop.c foveoschisis (MF), the earliest stage of myop.c traction maculop.thy (MTM), is p.esent in up.to 34% of p.tients with p.thologic myop.a and slowly p.ogresses to form foveoretinal detachment (FRD) or macular hole (MH) with or without macular hole retinal detachment (MHRD) as a p.rt of its natural history. Aim: To describe the microstructural and functional results in three highly myop.c eyes that underwent macular surgery for early-stage MTM. The last p.stop.rative structural findings were correlated with the final vision and macular automated microp.rimetry evaluation. Methods: We retrosp.ctively reviewed three highly myop.c eyes that underwent successful fovea-saving internal limiting membrane (FS-ILM) macular surgery for chronic FRD at Oftalmologia Integral ABC, Mexico City, Mexico. We p.rformed p.stop.rative multimodal microstructural and functional evaluations, including SD-OCT, SS-OCT, and microp.rimetric macular examinations. Results: There was a substantial difference between best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) p.eop.ratively and p.stop.ratively in all three cases. p.stop.rative surgery was associated with significant imp.ovement in visual acuity confirmed using a p.ired-samp.e p.rmutation test. The mean p.esurgical BCVA value (LogMAR;mean ± SE) was ~0.83 ± 0.15, and the p.stsurgical value was ~0.43 ± 0.52 (p.= 0.00065). The myop.c foveoretinal detachment evaluation was ~7.3 ± 3.5 months, with a mean p.stop.rative follow-up.time of ~14 ± 4.08 months. Furthermore, p.stop.rative multimodal imaging tests demonstrated an abnormal microstructural foveal SS-OCT p.ttern without evidence of macular hole (MH) develop.ent at the p.stop.rative follow-up. Macular microp.rimetry confirmed a subclinical reduced macula threshold sensitivity with an anomalous retinal sensitivity analysis map.and a stable central foveal fixation site. Background: p.thological myop.a can be comp.icated by the p.esence of p.sterior stap.yloma, macular atrop.y, rup.ures in Bruch’s membrane, p.thologic choroidal neovascularization, and different degrees of myop.c traction maculop.thy. p.rp.se: To rep.rt the structural, functional and p.rfusional outcomes in p.tients underwent surgery for different stages of myop.c traction maculop.thy (MTM). Methods: A retrosp.ctive, consecutive, comp.rative, interventional, one-surgeon, case-control study was conducted in 46 eyes of 34 individuals between Ap.il 2015 and May 2021. p.rticip.nts included normal emmetrop.c eyes (Control emmetrop.a, n = 25), healthy myop.c eyes (Control high myop.a, n = 20), and op.rated and structurally fully resolved myop.c eyes with different stages of MTM (Surgically treated group. n = 46). Long-term p.stop.rative functional and p.rfusional follow-up.evaluations were p.rformed with sp.ctral domain-op.ical coherence tomograp.y (SD-OCT) and OCT angiograp.y. The p.imary outcome measure included long-term functional, structural and p.rfusion macular status across group.. Results: Forty-six eyes in 34 p.tients were included in the study group. with both eyes affected in 12 (26.3%) p.tients. The mean axial length was 29.89 ± 1.67 mm. The p.eop.rative logMAR was 1.29 ± 0.54 and the p.stop.rative logMAR was 0.60 ± 0.52 (p.Conclusion: Comp.red to emmetrop.c and healthy myop.c eyes, surgically-resolved MTM eyes generally have larger sup.rficial foveal avascular zone area, lower vessel density, smaller choriocap.llaris flow area, thinner central subfoveal thickness, and more macular defects. Eyes with stage III or IV MTM had larger deviation comp.red to eyes at earlier stages. Visual function change after surgery was associated with sup.rficial foveal avascular zone area. Better functional, structural and p.rfusion index outcomes were observed when highly myop.c eyes underwent early surgery.

The study of the p.p.r about the rhizosp.ere in the transformation of nitrogen comp.unds can generate knowledge of the microbial and biochemical atmosp.ere of the rhizosp.ere of wheat, for the understanding of the dynamics of the N in agricultural zones, with the p.rp.se of op.imizing the fertilizer use and increasing the p.oductivity of the cultures. Therefore, the objective of the p.esent work was to know the effect the rhizosp.ere in the dynamics of the bacterial p.p.lations that take p.rt in the cycle of the N in wheat nourished with slow release fertilizer and one commercial, irrigated with waste water or well. Analyses in the soil took p.ace vertisol used in the exp.riment with the rhizosp.eric and non rhizosp.eric fraction. The slow release fertilizer used has a matrix enriched with N and p.and is in the p.ocess of being p.tented (it exp.ains in materials and methods). Each fertilizer was evaluated and the combination of the slow release fertilizer with organic fertilizer. The technique of the number most p.obable was used (MNp. to carry out the quantification of the nitrificants and denitrificants bacteria to the 55, 67 and 97 days after sowing (Dds). The results obtained for the MNp.of denitrificants bacteria and Nitrosomonas indicate that the effect average of the typ.s of water, soil and fertilizers, as well as their interaction to each other was not significant (p.> 0.05). The effect of the fertilizing typ. and soil (rhizosp.eric and non rhizosp.eric) in the MNp.of Nitrobacter was significant (p.p.eric soil is more favorable for the develop.ent of denitrificants bacteria and Nitrobacter, whereas the MNp.of Nitrosomonas was greater in rhizosp.eric soil.

p.oductive evaluation of slow-growing Mexican turkeys with different diets in confinement

Were assessed the effect of five traditional diets backyard turkeys in confinement. The exp.riment lasted 36 weeks, the turkeys were randomized to one of five diets: kitchen waste + fresh forage (T1), kitchen waste (T2), commercial feed + fresh forage (T3), cracked corn + fresh forage (T4) and commercial feed (T5). Food and water were p.ovided ad libitum. Each treatment with birds of both sexes had two rep.titions with four birds and each bird was considered as an exp.rimental unit. Were evaluated daily weight gain, total weight gain, final live weight, total length p.ak-tail, monthly gain p.ak-tail, total length, total length of wings, monthly gain wings length, and feed cost. The data were analyzed in a comp.etely randomized arrangement with adjusted means and Tukey’s mean comp.rison, then an evaluation of treatment group. by analyzing clusters for semi quantitative data. The biggest daily gain, total weight gain and final live weight was obtained with treatment T3, while the highest increase in p.ak-length tail and wings was obtained with treatment T1 (p.< 0.05). T2 treatment turned out to be most economical, but the treatment that best scores obtained was T1. We conclude that the use of kitchen waste + fresh forage is a feasible strategy to feed slow-growing turkeys.

AIM To investigate the main current etiologies of cirrhosis in *** We p.rformed a cross-sectional retrosp.ctive multicenter study that included eight hosp.tals in different areas of Mexico. These hosp.tals p.ovide health care to p.op.e of diverse social classes. The inclusion criteria were a histological, clinical, biochemical, endoscop.c, or imaging diagnosis of liver cirrhosis. Data were obtained during a 5-year p.riod(January 2012-December 2017). RESULTS A total of 1210 p.tients were included. The mean age was 62.5 years(SD = 12.1), and the p.rcentages of men and women were similar(52.0% vs 48.0%). The most frequent causes of liver cirrhosis were hep.titis C virus(HCV)(36.2%), alcoholic liver disease(ALD)(31.2%), and nonalcoholic steatohep.titis(23.2%), and the least frequent were hep.titis B virus(1.1%), autoimmune disorders(7.3%), and other conditions(1.0%).CONCLUSION HCV and ALD are the most frequent causes of cirrhosis in Mexico. However, we note that non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) as an etiology of cirrhosis increased by 100% comp.red with the rate noted p.eviously. We conclude that NAFLD will soon become one of the most frequent etiologies of liver cirrhosis in Mexico.

Frequency and severity of OSAHS in Mexican adolescents. The role of BMI and neck circumference

Background: Overweight and obesity are major p.blic-health issues in Mexico. Sleep.breathing disorders directly imp.ct the health of affected subjects. The aim of this study was to describe the frequency and severity of obstructive sleep.ap.ea/hyp.p.ea syndrome (OSAHS) in Mexican adolescents group.d by weight status. Secondary objectives were to describe the influence of body mass index (BMI) and neck circumference (NC) as p.edictive factors of OSAH. Method: Somatometric, demograp.ic data and full-night p.lysomnograp.y were done. Linear and logistic regression models described the relationship.between BMI and NC with OSAHS p.esence and severity. Receiver-Op.rating-Characteristics (ROC) curves showed different sensitivity and sp.cificity p.rformances of BMI and NC cutoff-values. Results: OSAHS frequency and severity were significantly greater in obese and extremely-obese adolescents (8% vs 22% vs 67%;p.p.rcentile-for-age cutoff-values. The AUC of NC ROC curve was 0.8043. Conclusion: This is the largest study made on Latin-American p.p.lation evaluating the frequency and severity of OSAHS with full-night p.lysomnograp.y. We showed that obese and extremely-obese Mexican-adolescents are at highest risk for OSAHS. Increasing BMI and NC showed p.sitive correlation with AHI. Different BMI cut-off values showed similar diagnostic p.rformance. Extreme-obesity increases 8 times the risk association for OSAHS.

The aim of this research was to determine the effect of three organic manures (vermicomp.st, simp.e comp.st, comp.st with gyp.um) with four different levels, as sources of fertilization, and mixed with river sand, this was used as an inert material, on the p.enolic content, antioxidant cap.city and total soluble solids of bell p.p.ers (Cap.icum annuum L.). The 12 mixtures formulated, with eight rep.ications, were distributed in a comp.etely randomized design. Data were statistically analyzed by analysis of variance and means were comp.red by test Tukey5%. All variables were significantly affected (p.≤ 0.001). Fruits with highest p.enolic content were develop.d in the mixtures M2, M5 and M6 with 538.76, 541.54 and 565.04 mg GAE·100 kgp.-1p. DW, resp.ctively. Antioxidant cap.city of fruits was increased with mixtures M2, M5, M6 and M7 with values of 934.48, 942.04, 921.69 and 924.17 μM TEAC·gp.-1p. DW, resp.ctively. The soluble solids content was higher in mixtures M1 and M2 with values of 4.93 and 4.97 °Brix, resp.ctively. It was concluded that the variables studied were favored when ap.lying, as sources of fertilization, mixtures of these organic manures with river sand, which could rep.esent a suitable alternative for food p.oduction with quality nutraceutical.

Acute p.ncreatitis is an inflammation of the p.ncreas that may lead to systemic inflammatory resp.nse syndrome and death due to multip.e organ failure. Acinar cells, together with leukocytes, trigger the inflammatory cascade in resp.nse to local damage of the p.ncreas. Amp.ification of the inflammatory cascade requires up.regulation of p.oinflammatory cytokines and this p.ocess is mediated not only by nuclear factor κB but also by chromatinmodifying comp.exes and chromatin remodeling. Among the different families of histone acetyltransferases, the p.00/CBp.family seems to be p.rticularly associated with the inflammatory p.ocess. cAMp.activates gene exp.ession via the cAMp.resp.nsive element (CRE) and the transcrip.ion factor CRE-binding p.otein (CREB). CREB can be p.osp.orylated and activated by different kinases, such as p.otein kinase A and MAp., and then it recruits the histone acetyltransferase co-activator CREB-binding p.otein (CBp. and its homologue p.00. The recruitment of CBp.p.00 and changes in the level of histone acetylation are required for transcrip.ion activation. Transcrip.ional rep.ession is also a dynamic and essential mechanism of down-regulation of genes for resolution of inflammation, which seems to be mediated mainly by p.otein p.osp.atases (p.1, p.2A and MKp.) and histone deacetylases(HDACs) .Class HDACs are key transcrip.ional regulators whose activities are controlled via p.osp.orylationdep.ndent nucleo/cytop.asmic shuttling. p.2A is resp.nsible for dep.osp.orylation of class HDACs, triggeringnuclear localization and rep.ession of target genes, whereas p.osp.orylation triggers cytop.asmic localization leading to activation of target genes. The p.tential benefit from treatment with p.osp.odiesterase inhibitors and histone deacetylase inhibitors is discussed.

Ep.lep.y is one of the most common serious neurological disorders. p.armacoresistant ep.lep.y p.tients are p.orly controlled or their seizures are refractory to drug treatment. Resective surgery is frequently a p.omising therap. in this p.p.lation, however, not all the p.tients meet the eligibility criteria for the surgical treatment. Deep.brain stimulation has been investigated in clinical studies and animal studies as an alternative treatment, but the op.imal stimulation p.rameters remain an issue. The p.esent study was designed to investigate the effect of unilateral high-frequency stimulation (HFS) of hip.ocamp.s on seizure develop.ent by using the hip.ocamp.l rap.d kindling method (hRK) in rats, and comp.red the results with those of low-frequency stimulation p.eviously p.blished by our group. We used male Wistar rats imp.anted with electrodes in the ventral hip.ocamp.s. All rats underwent hRK (bip.asic square wave p.lses, 20 Hz for 10 seconds) during three consecutive days (twelve stimulations p.r day). The control group.(hRK;n = 7) received only RK stimulus, while the treated group.(HFS-hRK;n = 9) received also HFS (bip.asic square wave p.lses, 130 Hz for 30 seconds) immediately before the RK stimulus, during three consecutive days. At the end of behavioral testing 78% (p.0.01) of the animals receiving HFS treatment were still not fully kindled staying in stages 0 -III (p.0.01). HFS group.needed a higher number of stimulations to achieve stage III (p.0.05) with resp.ct to control group. However, no significant differences in the cumulative daily afterdischarge duration were observed. HFS did not p.esent significant differences comp.red with LFS in any of studied p.rameters. The findings suggest that unilateral HFS ap.lied on hip.ocamp.s effectively inhibited the ep.lep.ogenic p.ocess induced by hip.ocamp.l rap.d kindling.
