The present study deals with the determination of Mount Olympus summit(Mytikas),exploiting modern observations such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems(GNSS)and existing geodetic *** last official Olympus height determination goes back 102 years by the Swiss surveyor *** then,only unofficial measurement campaigns have taken *** is a variety of released heights,which range from 2917 to 2919 *** September and October of 2022,we conducted a GNSS campaign,focusing on the area of highest Olympus *** precise GNSS measurements(accuracy of 1-3 cm),in conjunction with height information from Greece’s National Triangulation Network(5-10 cm accuracy)and an appropriate,recent geoid model(5-6 cm accuracy),we estimate through the so-called GNSS-levelling,the height of Olympus to 2917.727 m with respect to Greece’s officially accepted mean sea level and 2918.390 m with respect to the global vertical *** estimation of Olympus highest peak shows remarkable consistency at the level of 12.8 cm to that of *** in 1921.

Colonoscopy is the gold standard for colorectal cancer prevention; however, it is still an imperfect modality. Precancerous lesions can be lost during screening examinations, thus increasing the risk of interval cancer. A variety of factors either patient-, or endoscopist dependent or even the procedure itself may contribute to loss of lesions. Sophisticated modalities including advanced technology endoscopes and add-on devices have been developed in an effort to eliminate colonoscopy's drawbacks and maximize its ability to detect potentially culprit polyps. Novel colonoscopes aim to widen the field of view. They incorporate more than one cameras enabling simultaneous image transmission. In that way the field of view can expand up to 330°. On the other hand a plethora of add-on devices attachable on the standard colonoscope promise to detect lesions in the proximal aspect of colonic folds either by offering a retrograde view of the lumen or by straightening the haustral folds during withdrawal. In this minireview we discuss how these recent advances affect colonoscopy performance by improving its quality indicators(cecal intubation rate, adenoma detection rate) and other metrics(polyp detection rate, adenomas per colonoscopy, polyp/adenoma miss rate) associated with examination's outcomes.

Background:The analysis of COVID-19 infection data through the eye of Physics-inspired Artificial Intelligence leads to a clearer understanding of the infection dynamics and assists in predicting future *** spreading of the pandemic during the first half of 2020 was curtailed to a larger or lesser extent through social distancing measures imposed by most *** the context of the standard Susceptible-Infected-Recovered(SIR)model,changes in social distancing enter through time-dependent infection ***:In this work we use machine learning and the infection dynamical equations of SIR to extract from the infection data the degree of social distancing and,through it,assess the effectiveness of the imposed ***:Quantitative machine learning analysis is applied to eight countries with infection data from the first viral *** find as two extremes Greece and USA where the measures were successful and unsuccessful,respectively,in limiting *** physics-based neural network approach is employed to the second wave of the infection,and by training the network with the new data,we extract the time-dependent infection rate and make short-term predictions with a week-long or even longer *** algorithmic approach is applied to all eight countries with good short-term *** data for Greece is analyzed in more detail from August to December ***:The model captures the essential spreading dynamics and gives useful projections for the spreading,both in the short-term but also for a more intermediate horizon,based on specific social distancing measures that are extracted directly from the data.

Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disorder globally and is characterized by skeletal fragility and microarchitectural *** pleiotropy occurs when a single genetic element is associated with more than one *** aimed to identify pleiotropic loci associated with bone mineral density(BMD)and nonbone phenotypes in genome-wide association *** the discovery stage,the NHGRI-EBI Catalog was searched for genome-wide significant associations(P value<5 x 108),excluding bone-related *** was used to identify proxies of the significantly associated single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)(r2=1).We then assessed putative genetic associations of this set of SNPs with femoral neck(FN)and lumbar spine(LS)BMD data from the GEFOS *** variants were claimed at a false discovery rate<1.4x 103 for FN-BMD and<1.5 x 10-3 for *** of these genetic markers was performed among more than 400000 UK Biobank participants of European ancestry with available genetic and heel bone ultrasound *** the discovery stage,72 BMD-related pleiotropic SNPs were identified,and 12 SNPs located in 11 loci on 8 chromosomes were replicated in the UK *** SNPs were associated,in addition to BMD,with 14 different *** pleiotropic associations were exhibited by rs479844(AP5B1,O V O L 1 genes),which was associated with dermatological and allergic diseases,and rs4072037(M U C 1 gene),which was associated with magnesium levels and gastroenterological *** conclusion,12 BMD-related genome-wide significant SNPs showed pleiotropy with nonbone *** associations can deepen the genetic understanding of bone-related diseases by identifying shared biological mechanisms with other diseases or traits.

Increasing evidence indicates that sialic acid plays an important role during nerve regeneration. Sialic acids can be modified in vitro as well as in vivo using metabolic oligosaccharide engineering of the N-awl side chain. N-Propionylmannosamine （ManNProp） increases neurite outgrowth and accelerates the reestablishment of functional synapses in vitro. We investigated the influence of systemic ManNProp application using a specific in vivo mouse model. Using mice expressing axonal fluorescent proteins, we quantified the extension of regenerating axons, the number of regenerating axons, the number of arborising axons and the number of branches per axon 5 days after injury. Sciatic nerves from non-expressing mice were grafted into those expressing yellow fluorescent protein. We began a twice-daily intraperitoneal application of either peracetylated ManNProp （200 mg/kg） or saline solution 5 days before injury, and continued it until nerve harvest （5 days after transection）. ManNProp significantly increased the mean distance of axonal regeneration （2.49 mm vs. 1.53 mm; P 〈 0.005） and the number of arborizing axons （21% vs. 16%; P = 0.008） 5 days after sciatic nerve grafting. ManNProp did not affect the number of regenerating axons or the number of branches per arborizing axon. The biochemical glycoengineering of the N-acyl side chain of sialic acid might be a promising approach for improving peripheral nerve regeneration.

Cross-Polarized GPR Imaging of Fracture Flow Channeling

Ground penetrating radar（GPR） can be used to image fractures and monitor fluid flow in the subsurface. Conventional GPR imaging uses single-polarization, co-polarized acquisition. We examine the use of cross-polarized GPR signals for imaging flow channeling in a discrete horizontal fracture. Numerical modeling（FDTD） demonstrates that when the fracture channel is oriented at an oblique angle to the survey line, depolarization of the GPR signal results in scattered energy along the cross-polarized components. When the channel is oriented parallel or orthogonal to the survey line, all scattered energy is captured by the co-polarized components and no signal is present in the cross-polarized orientation. Multipolarization, time-lapse 3D GPR field data were acquired at the Altona Flat Rock test site in New York State. The GPR surveys were conducted during background fresh fracture water conditions and during a natural gradient saline tracer test which was used to highlight flow channels along a sub-horizontal fracture. Amplitude analysis of the cross-polarized data reveals flow channeling that is in agreement with the co-polarized GPR images and with independent hydraulic tests. This investigation demonstrates that cross-polarized components of GPR signals can be used to enhance imaging of flow channels in fractured media.
