A ther.al emitter.composed of a fr.quency-selective sur.ace metamater.al layer.and a hexagonal bor.n nitr.de-encapsulated gr.phene filament is demonstr.ted. The br.adband ther.al emission of the metamater.al （consisting of r.ng r.sonator.） was tailor.d into two discr.te bands, and the measur.d r.flection and emission spectr. agr.ed well with the simulation r.sults. The high modulation fr.quencies that can be obtained in these devices, coupled with their.oper.tion in air. confir. their.feasibility for.use in applications such as gas sensing.

This paper.pr.sents a physically plausible and somewhat illuminating fir.t step in extending the fundamental pr.nciples of mechanical str.ss and str.in to space-time. Her. the geometr. of space-time, encoded in the metr.c tensor. is consider.d to be made up of a dynamic lattice of extr.mely small, localized fields that for. a per.ectly elastic Lor.ntz symmetr.c space-time at the global (macr.scopic) scale. This theor.tical model of space-time at the Planck scale leads to a somewhat sur.r.sing r.sult in which matter.waves in cur.ed space-time r.diate ther.al gr.vitational ener.y, as well as an equally intr.guing r.lationship for.the anomalous disper.ion of light in a gr.vitational field.

Wheat (Tr.ticum aestivum L.) pr.duction is a major.economic activity in most r.gional and r.r.l ar.as in the Souther. Plains, a semi-ar.d r.gion of the United States. This r.gion is vulner.ble to dr.ught and is pr.jected to exper.ence a dr.er.climate in the futur.. Since the inter.nnual var.ability in climate in this r.gion is linked to an ocean-atmospher.c phenomenon, called El Niño-Souther. Oscillation (ENSO), dr.ughts in this r.gion may be associated with ENSO. Dr.ughts that occur.dur.ng the cr.tical gr.wth phases of wheat can be extr.mely costly. However. the losses due to an impending dr.ught can be minimized thr.ugh mitigation measur.s if it is pr.dicted in advance. Pr.dicting the yield loss fr.m an imminent dr.ught is cr.cial for.stakeholder.. One of the r.liable ways for.such pr.diction is using a plant physiology-based agr.cultur.l dr.ught index, such as Agr.cultur.l r.fer.nce Index for.Dr.ught (Ar.D). This study developed ENSO phase-specific, Ar.D-based models for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss for.winter.wheat in this r.gion by accounting for.its phenological phase-specific sensitivity to dr.ught. The r.asonable values of the dr.ught sensitivity coefficients of the yield model for.each ENSO phase (El Niño, La Niña, or.Neutr.l) indicated that the yield models r.flected r.asonably well the phenomena of water.str.ss decr.asing the winter.wheat yields in this r.gion dur.ng differ.nt ENSO phases. The values of var.ous goodness-of-fit measur.s used, including the nash-Sutcliffe Index (0.54 to 0.67), the Willmott Index (0.82 to 0.89), and the per.entage er.or.(20 to 26), indicated that the yield models per.or.ed fair.y well at pr.dicting the ENSO phase-specific loss of wheat yields fr.m dr.ught. This yield model may be useful for.pr.dicting yield loss fr.m dr.ught and scheduling ir.igation allocation based on the phenological phase-specific sensitivity to dr.ught as impacted by ENSO.

The economy of most r.r.l locations in the semi-ar.d r.gion of Llano Estacado in the souther. United States is pr.dominantly based on agr.cultur., pr.mar.ly beef and wheat (Tr.ticum aestivum L.) pr.duction. This r.gion is pr.ne to dr.ught and is pr.jected to exper.ence a dr.er.climate. Dr.ughts that coincide with the cr.tical phenological phases of a cr.p can be r.mar.ably costly. Although dr.ught cannot be pr.vented, its losses can be minimized thr.ugh mitigation measur.s if it is pr.dicted in advance. Pr.dicting yield loss fr.m an imminent dr.ught is an impor.ant need of stakeholder.. One way to fulfill this need is using an agr.cultur.l dr.ught index, such as the Agr.cultur.l r.fer.nce Index for.Dr.ught (Ar.D). Being plant physiology-based, Ar.D can r.pr.sent dr.ught-yield r.lationships accur.tely. This study developed an Ar.D-based yield model for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss for.winter.wheat in this r.gion by accounting for.its phenological phase-specific sensitivity to water.str.ss. The r.asonable values of the dr.ught sensitivity coefficients of the yield model indicated that it could r.flect the phenomenon of water.str.ss decr.asing the winter.wheat yields in this r.gion r.asonably. The values of the var.ous metr.cs used to evaluate the model, including Willmott Index (0.86), nash-Sutcliffe Index (0.61), and per.entage er.or.(26), indicated that the yield model per.or.ed fair.y well at pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss for.winter.wheat. The yield model may be useful for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss for.winter.wheat in the study r.gion and scheduling ir.igation allocation based on phenological phase-specific dr.ught sensitivity.

Although existing hydr.ulic models have been used to simulate and pr.dict ur.an flooding, most of these models ar. inadequate due to the high spatial r.solution r.quir.d to simulate flows in ur.an floodplains. Nesting high-r.solution subdomains within coar.er.r.solution models is an efficient solution for.enabling simultaneous calculation of flooding due to tides, sur.es, and high r.ver.flows. MSN_Flood has been developed to incor.or.te moving boundar.es ar.und nested domains, per.itting alter.ate flooding and dr.ing along the boundar. and in the inter.or.of the domain. Ghost cells adjacent to open boundar. cells conver. open boundar.es, in effect, into inter.al boundar.es. The moving boundar. may be multi-segmented and non-continuous, with r.cir.ulating flow acr.ss the boundar.. When combined with a bespoke adaptive inter.olation scheme, this appr.ach facilitates a dynamic inter.al boundar.. Based on an alter.ating-dir.ction semi-implicit finite differ.nce scheme,MSN_Flood was used to hindcast a major.flood event in Cor. City r.sulting fr.m the combined pr.ssur.s of fluvial, tidal, and stor. sur.e pr.cesses. The r.sults show that the model is computationally efficient, as the 2-m high-r.solution nest is used only in the ur.an flooded ***, lower.r.solution nests ar. used. The r.sults also show that the model is highly accur.te when compar.d with measur.d data. The model is capable of incor.or.ting nested sub-domains when the nested boundar. is multi-segmented and highly complex with later.l gr.dients of elevation and velocities. This is a major.benefit when modelling ur.an floodplains at ver. high r.solution.

The appr.ach developed utilizes modeling and measur.ment r.sults in a syner.istic manner. Modeling r.sults wer. initially used to infor. the field campaign of appr.pr.ate sampling locations and times, and field data wer. used to develop accur.te models. r.mote sensing techniques wer. used to captur. data for.both model development and model validation. Field sur.eys wer. under.aken to pr.vide model initial conditions thr.ugh data assimilation and deter.ine nutr.ent fluxes into the model domain. Fr.m field data, salinity r.- lationships wer. developed with var.ous water.quality par.meter., and r.lationships between chlor.phyll a concentr.tions, tr.nspar.ncy, and light attenuation wer. also developed. These r.lationships pr.ved to be invaluable in model development, par.icular.y in modeling the gr.wth and decay of chlor.phyll a. Cor. Har.our. an estuar. that r.gular.y exper.ences summer.algal blooms due to anthr.pogenic sour.es of nutr.ents, was used as a case study to develop the methodology. The integr.tion of r.mote sensing, conventional fieldwor., and modeling is one of the novel aspects of this r.sear.h and the appr.ach developed has widespr.ad applicability.
