Bulk metallic glasses(BMGs) with new chemical compositions(ZrcoAgAlNi) were fabricated and the effects of Ag minor addition on the glass forming ability(GFA) and crystallization kinetics were studied. The x-ray diffraction(XrD) test was applied to identify the amorphousness of BMGs or possible crystalline phases. Using differential scanning calorimeter(DSc), the thermal stability and crystallization kinetics under a non-isothermal condition at the different heating rates were studied. considering the heating rate dependency of glass transition and crystallization kinetics, the activation energy was evaluated and measured for the mentioned processes. It was revealed that the rise in Ag content led to the decrease in activation energy for glass transition, while the activation energy for crystallization increased. The thermal stability and GFA were also studied and it was found that the Ag addition strongly affected the inherent features of BMGs. With the increase in Ag content, the atomic mobility and structural rearrangement changed in the material and consequently, the GFA and thermal stability were significantly improved.

Monolayer and bilayer coatings of TiAlN, AlcrN, and AlcrN/TiAlN were deposited onto tungsten c.r.ide inserts using the plasma enhanced physical vapor deposition process. The microstructures of the coatings were characterized using scanning elec.r.n microscopy （SEM） and atomic force microscopy （AFM）. The SEM micrographs revealed that the AlrN and AlcrN/TiAlN coatings were uniform and highly dense and contained only a limited number of microvoids. The TiAIN coating was non-uniform and highly porous and contained more micro droplets. The hardness and scratch resistance of the specimens were measured using a nanoindentation tester and scratch tester, respectively. Different phases formed in the coatings were analyzed by X-ray diffraction （XrD）. The AlcrN/TiAlN coating exhibited a higher hardness （32.75 GPa）, a higher Young＇s modulus （561.97 GPa）, and superior scratch resistance （LcN = 46 N） compared to conventional coatings such as TiAlN, A1crN, and TiN.

Niemann-Pick disease type c1 （NPc1）, caused by mutations of NPc1 gene, is an inherited lysosomal lipid storage disorder. Loss of functional NPc1 causes the accumulation of free cholesterol （Fc） in endocytic organelles that comprised the characteristics of late endosomes and/or lysosomes. In this study we analyzed the pathogenic effect of 103 nsSNPs reported in NPc1 using computational methods. rl186c, S940L, r958Q and I1061T mutations were predicted as most deleterious and disease associated with NPc1 using SIFT, Polyphen 2.0, PANTHEr, PhD-SNP, Pmut and MUTPred tools which were also endorsed with previous in vivo experimental studies. To understand the atomic arrangement in 3D space, the native and disease associated mutant （rl186c, S940L, r958Q and I1061T） structures were modeled. Quantitative structural and flexibility analysis was conceded to observe the structural consequence of prioritized disease associated mutations （r1186c, S940L, r958Q and I1061T）. Accessible surface area （ASA）, free folding energy （FFE） and hydrogen bond （NH bond） showed more flexibility in 3D space in mutant structures. Based on the quantitative assessment and flexibility analysis of NPc1 variants, I1061T showed the most deleterious effect. Our analysis provides a clear clue to wet laboratory scientists to understand the structural and functional effect of NPcI gene upon mutation.

Passive Steganalysis Based on Higher Order Image Statistics of c.r.elet Transform

Steganographic techniques accomplish covert communication by embedding secret messages into innocuous digital images in ways that are imperceptible to the human eye. This paper presents a novel passive steganalysis strategy in which the task is approached as a pattern classification problem. A critical part of the steganalyser design depends on the selection of informative features. This paper is aimed at proposing a novel attack with improved performance indices with the following implications： 1） employing higher order statistics from a c.r.elet sub-band image representation that offers better discrimination ability for detecting stego anomalies in images, as compared to other conventional wavelet transforms; 2） increasing the sensitivity and specificity of the system by the feature reduction phase; 3） realizing the system using an efficient classification engine, a neuro-c4.5 classifier, which provides better classification rate. An extensive experimental evaluation on a database containing 5600 clean and stego images shows that the proposed scheme is a state-of-the-art steganalyser that outperforms other previous steganalytic methods.
