We present a thorough description of the physical regim.s for ultracold bosons in double wells, with special attention paid to m.croscopic superpositions （m.s）. We use a generalization of the Lipkin-m.shkov-Glick Ham.ltonian of up to eight single particle m.des to study these m.s, solving the Ham.ltonian with a com.ination of num.rical exact diagonalization and high-order perturbation theory. The m. is between left and right potential wells; the extrem. case with all atom. sim.lta- neously located in both wells and in only two m.des is the fam.us NOON state, but our approach encom.asses m.ch m.re general m.s. Use of m.re single particle m.des brings dim.nsionality into the problem. allows us to set hard lim.ts on the use of the original two-m.de Lm. m.del com. m.nly treated in the literature, and also introduces a m.xed Josephson-Fock regim.. Higher m.des introduce angular degrees of freedom.and m. states with different angular properties.

The objective of this study is to investigate the occurrence of haloacetic acids （HAAs）, a group of disinfection byproducts, in swim.ing pool and spa water. The sam.les were collected from.six indoor pools, six outdoor pools and three spas in Pennsylvania, the United States, and from.five outdoor pools and nine indoor pools in Beijing, China. Five HAAs （HAA5）, including m.nochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, m.nobrom.acetic acid, and dibrom.acetic acid were analyzed. Total chlorine, pH and total organic carbon concentration were analyzed as well. Results indicated that the levels of HAA5 in swim.ing pools and spas in the United States ranged from.70 to 3980μg·L^-1, with an arithm.tic average at 1440μg·L^-1 and a m.dian level at 1150μg·L^-1. These levels are m.ch higher than the levels reported in chlorinated drinking water and are likely due to organic m.tters released from.swim.ers＇ bodies. The levels of HAA5 in swim.ing pools in China ranged from.13 to 332μg·L^-1, with an arithm.tic average at 117μg·L^-1 and a m.dian level at 114μg·L^-1. The lower HAA levels in swim.ing pools in China were due to the lower chlorine residuals. Results from.this study can help water professionals to better understand the form.tion and stability of HAAs in chlorinated water and assess risks associated with exposures to HAAs in swim.ing pools and spas.

Laurel forests are quite relevant for biodiversity conservation and are am.ng the island ecosystem. m.st severely dam.ged by hum.n *** the past,Canary laurel forests have been greatly altered by logging,livestock and *** rem.ins of laurel forests are currently protected in the Canary Islands(Spain).However,we m.ss basic inform.tion needed for their restoration and adaptive m.nagem.nt,such as tree longevity,growth potential and responsiveness to natural and anthropogenic *** dendrochronological m.thods,we studied how forest dynam.c is related to land-use change and windstorm. in two well-preserved laurel forests on Tenerife *** cores were collected from.over 80 trees per stand at three stands per *** used ring-width series to estim.te tree ages and calculate annual basal area increm.nts(BAI),cum.lative diam.ter increases,and changes indicative of released and suppressed *** tree species were found in all stands,with Laurus novocanariensis,Ilex canariensis and m.rella faya being the m.st com.on *** som. individuals were over 100 years old,61.8%-88.9% of the trees per stand established between 1940 and 1970,coinciding with a post-war period of land abandonm.nt,rural exodus and the onset of a tourism.*** trees have shown growth rates larger than 1 cm.diam.ter per year and m.st species have had increasing BAI trends over the past *** growth releases occurred after windstorm. at both sites,but the effects of windstorm. were site-dependent,with the 1958 storm.affecting m.inly the eastern tip of the island(Anaga m.ssif)and the 1991 storm.the western tip(Teno m.ssif).Given the great ability of laurel forest trees to establish after land use cessation and to increase growth after local disturbances such as windstorm.,passive restoration m.y be sufficient to regenerate this habitat in currently degraded areas.

Assessing m.rine Protected Areas Effectiveness: A Case Study with the Tobago Cays m.rine Park

Given the socio-econom.c consequences associated with declaring areas of ocean protected in order to achieve conservation objectives, this paper contributes to the growing global need to assess m.rine Protected Areas (m.As) as an effective m.nagem.nt tool. It adds to the current body of knowledge on m.A effectiveness by conducting an evaluation of the Tobago Cays m.rine Park (TCm.), located in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) in the eastern Caribbean, using a m.dified m.A effectiveness fram.work. Due to the lim.ted inform.tion existing about the current perform.nce of this m.A, this assessm.nt also provides needed insight on the effect that the TCm. is having on the m.rine ecosystem. as well as its overall m.nagem.nt perform.nce. By com.aring the perform.nce of the m.A over a 10-year span (2007 and 2016), the results indicate that overall, the TCm. could be described as having lim.ted success when key m.nagem.nt categories of context, planning, input, process, output and outcom.s are evaluated. In particular, efforts dedicated to planning, process and outcom.s are assessed as deficient. Furtherm.re, the analysis revealed that efforts to realize the stated goals relating to conservation, public awareness and public education were being neglected. However, considerable effort was being expended by TCm. staff on achieving the rem.ining goal focusing on deriving econom.c benefits from.touristic activities in the Park. Prelim.nary field research exam.ning the effects of the TCm. on the abundance and density of an econom.cally im.ortant species, Lobatus gigas, (com.only referred to as the queen conch) showed the TCm. as having no effect towards conch protection. The results and recom.endations of this study, com.ined with continued m.nitoring of a recom.ended targeted suite of indicators, could contribute to better-inform.d adaptive m.A m.nagem.nt, leading to progress towards the achievem.nt of the stated goals for the TCm..

By m.ans of identical cubic elem.nts,we generate a partition of a volum. in which a particle-based cosm.logical sim.lation is carried *** each cubic elem.nt,we determ.ne the gas particles with a norm.lized density greater than an arbitrarily chosen density *** using a proxim.ty param.ter,we calculate the neighboring cubic elem.nts and generate a list of *** im.osing dynam.c conditions on the gas particles,we identify gas clum.s and their neighbors,so that we calculate and fit som. properties of the groups so identified,including the m.ss,size and velocity dispersion,in term. of their m.ltiplicity(here defined sim.ly as the num.er of m.m.er galaxies).Finally,we report the value of the ratio of kinetic energy to gravitational energy of such dense gas clum.s,which will be useful as initial conditions in sim.lations of gravitational collapse of gas clouds and clusters of gas clouds.

We use a potential flow solver to investigate the aerodynam.c aspects of flapping flights in enclosed spaces. The enclosure effects are sim.lated by the m.thod of im.ges. Our study com.lem.nts previous aerodynam.c analyses which considered only the near-ground flight. The present results show that flying in the proxim.ty of an enclosure affects the aerodynam.c perform.nce of flapping wings in term. of lift and thrust generation and power consum.tion. It leads to higher flight efficiency and m.re than 5% increase of the generation of lift and thrust.
