Dynamic buckling mechanism of pillar rockbursts induced by stress waves

Rockbursts are sudden and violent rock failures that can lead to huge production and equipment losses,injury or death of mining *** has been regarded as one of the key mechanisms of rockbursts,which are often induced by dynamic loads from mining excavations,such as drilling and blasting in underground *** paper attempts to investigate the dynamic buckling mechanism of pillar rockbursts in underground mining,by considering rockbursts as a dynamic stability problem of underground rock *** results include:(1)A new explanation of the“sudden and violent”phenomenon of rockbursts,characterized by exponential growth of the amplitudes of transverse displacement responses,even in the presence of rock damping;(2)Identification of the critical role in inducing rockbursts of dynamic loads that bear frequencies approximately double the natural pillar frequency;(3)The greater influence on rockburst occurrence of the amplitude of dynamic component relative to the static component of loads;and(4)Quantification of the relative effects of stress waveform of dynamic loads on pillar rockbursts,which are in decreasing order if other parameters remain constant:rectangular,sinusoidal,and exponential *** examples are provided and limitations of the approach are *** research is motivated by the on-going and ubiquitous occurrence of rockbursts in underground excavations all around the *** contrast to conventional methods that use rock specimens or rock materials to study rockbursts,this investigation emphasizes the structural effects on rockbursts,which has potential applications in hard rock mining engineering.

Studies on Rhizospheric Mycoflora of Tea (Camellia sinensis): In vitro Antagonism with Dominant bacteria

Species of Trichoderma, Penicillium, Aspergillus and Mucor were found to dominate the rhizosphere of tea bushes in different regions of the Indian Himalayas. The Himachal Himalayas were dominated by Monilia humiscola (45.08%) and Mucor hiemalis (33.11%). In the Uttaranchal Himalayas, Aspergillus clavatum dominated the rhizosphere (54.01%), followed by A. flavous (20.07%). Although the fungal isolates require a mesophillic temperature (15 ℃ to 35 ℃), the tea rhizospheric isolates tolerate a wide range of temperatures (5 ℃ to 45 ℃). When tested for pH tolerance, these fungi showed a wide range (2.0 to 13.0) of pH tolerance under in vitro conditions. Seasonal variations also influenced the colony forming units (cfu) of the rhizospheric fungi, with the maximum forming in November and March, and the minimum in December^February. During this period, the populations of the fungi were found inversely proportional to the bacterial populations. In addition, the dominant bacteria in the tea rhizosphere, i.e., bacillus subtilis and b. mycoides, showed antagonistic activity against fungal isolates by inhibiting the growth and causing structural abnormalities in mycelium. Calcineurin-b-like Protein Cbl9 Interacts with Target Kinase CIPK3 in the Regulation of AbA Response in Seed Germination

Calcium plays a vital role as a second messenger in many signaling pathways in plants. The calcineurin b-like proteins （Cbls） represent a family of plant calcium-binding proteins that function in calcium signaling by interacting with their interacting protein kinases （CIPKs）. In our previous study, we have reported a role for one of the Cbls （Cbl9） and one of the CIPKs （CIPK3） in AbA signaling. Here, we have shown that Cbl9 and CIPK3 physically and functionally interact with each other in regulating the AbA responses. The Cbl9 and CIPK3 proteins interacted with each other in the yeast two- hybrid system and when expressed in plant cells. The double mutant cbl9cipk3 showed the similar hypersensitive response to AbA as observed in single mutants （cbl9 or cipk3）. The constitutively active form of CIPK3 genetically complemented the cbl9 mutant, indicating that CIPK3 function downstream of Cbl9. based on these findings, we conclude that Cbl9 and CIPK3 act together in the same pathway for regulating AbA responses.

Saponin synthesis and cotton growth is antagonistically regulated by solar UV-b radiation

background: Earlier we have reported that the exclusion of solar UV-b increased the growth and yield of cotton plants as compared with ambient UV-b. The UV-b radiation effects on the saponins and the impact of ambient and reduced UV-b on the accumulation of saponins has not been investigated yet. Thus a field experiment was conducted to study the influence of solar UV-b on the growth response and saponin synthesis in cotton(Gossypium hirsutum) var. Vikram plants by the exclusion of UV-b. The cotton plants were grown in specially designed iron chambers, wrapped with filters that excluded UV-b(bient ***: Exclusion of ambient UV-b enhanced the growth of cotton plants in terms of plant height and leaf *** plant height in UV-b excluded plants was due to elongated internode and more number of *** in growth was accompanied by a decrease in the accumulation of saponins, which was quantified by the spectrophotometric, TlC and HPlC methods. Solvent extraction of saponins from the internodes and leaves were used for the bioassay of Amaranthus hypocotyl growth and expansion of cucumber cotyledons. Extracts obtained from the UV-b excluded plants(leaves and internodes) promoted the growth to a larger extent as compared with the extracts obtained from ambient grown ***: The result indicates that solar UV-b may possibly suppress the plant growth by regulating the synthesis of natural growth inhibitor’s like saponin.

Post Millennium Development Goals Prospect on Child Mortality in India: An Analysis Using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Averages (ARIMA) Model

background & Objectives: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are set up as a part of the Post Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Then it becomes essential to review the achievement of the MDGs in India and lessons learned to incorporate into the SDGs. The present study reviews and predicts different components of under-five mortality rate beyond 2015 to assess the present situation and to determine the future possibilities of achieving the new targets for SDGs in India. Data and Methods: It uses available time series data on different components of U5MR from the India’s Sample Registration System (SRS). Autoregressive Integrated Moving Averages (ARIMA) model has been taken as the method of time series analysis to forecast the mortality rates beyond 2015. Results: There is a consistent pattern of faster decline in the under-five mortality compared with the neonatal mortality rate across all major states in India although neonatal mortality contributes largest share in under-five mortality. Again, share of neonatal death among under-five death is increasing steadily over the future projected years. This indicates very slow progress of reduction in neonatal mortality. Stimulating efforts with new intervention programmes will be needed to focus more on lowering neonatal mortality particularly in rural India.

Dry sliding wear behaviour of stir-cast aluminium matrix composites(AMCs)containing lM13 alloy as matrix and ceramic particles as reinforcement was *** different ceramic particle reinforcements were used separately:synthetic ceramic particles(b_(4)C),and natural ceramic particles(ilmenite).Optical micrographs showed uniform dispersion of reinforced particles in the matrix *** particles refined the grain size of eutectic silicon and changed its morphology to globular type.b_(4)C reinforced composites(bRCs)showed maximum improvement in hardness of *** reinforced composites(IRCs)showed maximum reduction in coefficient of friction values due to strong matrix−reinforcement interfacial bonding caused by the formation of interfacial *** sliding wear behaviour of composites was significantly improved as compared to base *** low density and high hardness of b_(4)C particles resulted in high dislocation density around filler particles in *** the other hand,the low thermal conductivity of ilmenite particles resulted in early oxidation and formation of a tribo-layer on surface of ***,both types of reinforcements led to the improvement in wear properties of AMCs,though the mechanisms involved were very ***,the low-cost ilmenite particles can be used as alternative fillers to the high-cost b_(4)C particles for processing of wear resistant composites.

Antiplasmodial activity of silver nanoparticles: A novel green synthesis approach

Objective:To synthesize silver nanoparticles using silver nitrate by a green technique which involves different compositions of aqueous leaf extracts of Azadirachta indica(neem)and Ocimum sanctum(tulsi).Methods:Their shape and size were determined using transmission electron microscopy and UV-visible *** antiplasmodial activity was studied using the malarial parasite strain(Plasmodium falciparum,3D7).The parasite strain(3D7)was collected and revived in vitro using Trager and Jensen method in RPMI 1640 medium for *** maximal effective concentration values were calculated by nonlinear regression ***:Transmission electron microscopy results confirmed the formation of silver nanoparticles with size ranging from 4.74-39.32 nm and their size differs by varying the concentrations from 20%to 100%of neem extract in neem and tulsi *** was observed that samples b and C showed half maximum effective concentration of about 0.3μ***:It can be easily established that the aqueous leaf extracts of neem and tulsi in combination can be a good source for synthesis of silver nanoparticles with small size possessing appreciable antiplasmodial activity.

Developed New Procedure for low Concentrations of Hydrazine Determination by Spectrophotometry: Hydrazine-Potassium Permanganate System

An indirect, sensitive and accurate method for the determination of trace amounts of hydrazine is described. In this proposed the spectrophotometric method is based on its reduction properties of hydrazine with a known concentration of potassium permanganate to reduce the colour. The absorbance of unreduced permanganate is measured the colour difference at different wavelengths 546 and 526 nm which show an absorption spectrum with hydrazine. Hydrazine can be determined in the range of 100 - 700 μg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.999 and relative standard deviation 1%. The method is successfully applied for the determination of hydrazine in water streams in nuclear reactors/purex process/boiler water and polluted water samples.
