3-Bromopyruvate(3BP) is a new, promising anticancer alkylating agent with several notable functions. In addition to inhibiting key glycolysis enzymes including hexokinase II and lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), 3BP also selectively inhibits mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, angiogenesis, and energy production in cancer cells. Moreover, 3BP induces hydrogen peroxide generation in cancer cells(oxidative stress effect) and competes with the LDH substrates pyruvate and lactate. There is only one published human clinical study showing that 3BP was effective in treating fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. LDH is a good measure for tumor evaluation and predicts the outcome of treatment better than the presence of a residual tumor mass. According to the Warburg effect, LDH is responsible for lactate synthesis, which facilitates cancer cell survival, progression, aggressiveness, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Lactate produced through LDH activity fuels aerobic cell populations inside tumors via metabolic symbiosis. In melanoma, the most deadly skin cancer, 3BP induced necrotic cell death in sensitive cells, whereas high glutathione(GSH) content made other melanoma cells resistant to 3BP. Concurrent use of a GSH depletor with 3BP killed resistant melanoma cells. Survival of melanoma patients was inversely associated with high serum LDH levels, which was reported to be highly predictive of melanoma treatment in randomized clinical trials. Here, we report a 28-year-old man presented with stage IV metastatic melanoma affecting the back, left pleura, and lung. The disease caused total destruction of the left lung and a high serum LDH level(4,283 U/L). After ethics committee approval and written patient consent, the patient received 3BP intravenous infusions(1-2.2 mg/kg), but the anticancer effect was minimal as indicated by a high serum LDH level. Diabetes is a chronic illness that occurs when the pancreas stops producing insulin or when the body cannot use the produced insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps glucose from meals enters the body’s cells for energy. The overall goal is to assess diabetes patients’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about prevalent diabetic complications. This research used a descriptive qualitative methodology to assess diabetes complication knowledge, attitude, and practice. Ninety-eight diabetic patients were visiting the Egyptian Hospital in Mogadishu for four weeks. The data was collected using questionnaires. Finally, SPSS 20 was utilized for analysis. The research was performed from May to July 2020 with a non-probability sample size of 98 diabetics. The bulk of responders were aged 40 - 60 (36.7%). Type 2 was the most common (47.96%). 44.9% of respondents had diabetes for more than ten years. 60.2% had regular checkups, and 54.1 percent had therapy. 52% of participants were on a diet. 63.3% of respondents do not exercise often. However, most responders know the common issues (75%). Less than half of those polled had problems (41.8%). 22% incidence of Diabetic ketoacidosis. 78.6% of respondents know variables that decrease diabetes complications, whereas 22.4% do not. 37.8% of respondents saw a doctor for diabetes problems, whereas 62.2% did not. Diabetic patients’ knowledge, attitude, and practice were satisfactory for fundamental illness entanglements and self-testing. These findings may also be due to patient notification and, therefore, long-term illness that leads them to get acquainted with things alone. However, the tendency for regular exercise was low, which may produce more specific consequences of illness. Studies in recent years have shown that aquatic pollution by microplastics(MPs)can be considered to pose additional stress to amphibian ***,our knowledge of how MPs affect amphibians is very rudimentary,and even more limited is our understanding of their effects in combination with other emerging ***,we aimed to evaluate the possible toxicity of polyethylene MPs(PE-MPs)(alone or in combination with a mix of pollutants)on the health of Physalaemus cuvieri *** 30 days of exposure,multiple biomarkers were measured,including morphological,biometric,and developmental indices,behavioral parameters,mutagenicity,cytotoxicity,antioxidant and cholinesterase responses,as well as the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in *** on the results,there was no significant change in any of the parameters measured in tadpoles exposed to treatments,but induced stress was observed in tadpoles exposed to PE-MPs combined with themixture of pollutants,reflecting significant changes in physiological and biochemical *** principal component analysis(PCA)and integrated biomarker response(IBR)assessment,effects induced by pollutants in each test group were distinguished,confirming that the exposure of *** tadpoles to the PE-MPs in combination with a mix of emerging pollutants induces an enhanced stress response,although the uptake and accumulation of PE-MPs in these animalswas ***,our study provides newinsight into the danger to amphibians of MPs coexisting with other pollutants in aquatic environments.

Numerical calculations by using a self-consistent model of the collisional sheath for the capacitively coupled RF discharge are our target. The results indicated that, at high pressure, the ohmic heating is usually the dominant heating mechanism in the discharge. The power dissipated in the sheath is calculated and compared with the measured data. Moreover, we indicated that, when the gas pressure is increased, the calculated dissipated power is decreased also while the measured input RF power is increased. Furthermore the sheath thickness of the capacitively coupled discharge is calculated and in the same order of the electron oscillation amplitude in the RF field, while the ionization mean free path is shorter than it.

Worldwide more than thousands of women and new born are at the danger of die from pregnancy and child delivery complications. Antenatal care (ANC)/ pregnancy care is the health care where expecting mothers and new born receive medical care or medical attention. The aim of this study is to examine factors affecting the utilization of antenatal care among married women of reproductive age in Merca, lower Shebelle, Somalia. Methodology: This is a descriptive cross-sectional and qualitative study design that was carried out from June to August 2022 and this study was carried out in Merca, district lower Shabelle, Somalia. Data were collected from 325 married women of reproductive age who have at least one child and more than living in Merca district. Result: Our study found that the magnitude of antenatal care uptake was 31.1% during the examined period. Very low utilization of antenatal care in Somali women is worrying in the face of high vulnerability of maternal complications. In terms of age diverse and utilization of antenatal care, women in younger age group 15 - 30 were more to utilize antenatal care services than with women in older age group 31 years above (p-value el of education and level of utilization among women about antenatal care services (p-value el of awareness about antenatal care services, it is significantly associated with the level of utilization antenatal care (p-value elated previous pregnancy that have no awareness about antenatal care services was higher than number of utilized antennal care awareness about antenatal care (p-value < 0.001). Based on these results, it is recommended to improve women’s awareness about antenatal care services by using health education program.

Natural disasters usually involve a phenomenon with consequences that exceed the response capabilities of local communities and have a significant impact on the region’s socioeconomic development. Droughts, floods, and hurricanes are all natural disasters that jeopardize the environment and the lives of Somalis. Severe floods have devastated the south and central parts of the country multiple times, destroying infrastructure and homes and killing many vulnerable people. Droughts in the south and central parts of the country, particularly in the Middle Shebelle region, have killed a number of children and mothers. It also had a negative influence on crops and cattle. Objective of this study is to know the recurrence of Natural Disasters in Jowhar, Middle Shabelle region, Somalia: The Causes and Impacts. The Somali people are completely aware of natural disasters such as droughts and floods, and they are self-sufficient in dealing with the consequences of these disasters. Furthermore, the Somali government has not fully created environmental laws to protect and conserve the environment, and the majority of laws, rules, acts, and regulations are not used or administered effectively. We also found that the Somali government is not yet financially prepared to deal with these crises, and that there are no strategic plans in the central government or even state administrations to prevent or at least control these disasters from causing extreme harm to the community and the environment.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare two different surgical techniques for treating mild to moderate cases of hallux valgus. Methods: Forty-one patients (58 feet) with mild to moderate hallux valgus were treated by either percutaneous technique (n = 24) patients (33 feet) or by distal chevron osteotomy (n = 17) (25 feet). Results: In the percutaneous group, after a mean follow up of 49.36 months, the mean correction of hallux valgus angle (HV) was 26.69°in the intermetatarsal angle, average correction was 9.45°. The mean improvement of American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Score (AOFAS) was 46.45 points. In the chevron osteotomy group, the mean follow up of 51.56 months, the mean correction of hallux valgus angle was 26.78°in the intermetatarsal angle, average correction was 9°. The mean improvement of AOFAS was 44.76 points. Conclusion: Both techniques gave satisfactory results. However, the percutaneous technique is safer than the distal chevron osteotomy.

Prognostic Value of Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer and Ganglion Cell Complex after Optic Chiasmal Decompression

This paper is an attempt to ascertain the role of the optical coherence tomography by measuring the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and ganglion cell complex area to predict postoperative visual outcome after chiasmal decompression. 16 eyes scheduled for chiasmal decompression surgery were assessed before and 3 months after surgery with standard automated perimetry and OCT (optical coherence tomography). Preoperative RNFL (retinal nerve fibre layer) thickness and GCC (ganglion cell complex) area were compared with 20 normal control eyes. 13 cases were operated by microscopic assisted endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach;the remaining 3 cases were operated transcranially. Spearman’s correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between preoperative RNFL thickness, GCC area, postoperative mean deviation and temporal visual field sensitivity (1/Lambert). Preoperative measurements of RNFL thickness and all GCC area were significantly reduced in the patients compared with normal control. 3 months postoperative evaluation showed improvement of the visual field, but reduction in global and sectorial RNFL thickness except for nasal sector. Moreover, absolute postoperative (not pre-post change) visual field parameters were significantly correlated to preoperative RNFL (P = 0.00399 for mean deviation, P = 0.0023 for temporal sensitivity), GCC thickness (P = 0.00736 for mean deviation, P = 0.0469 for temporal sensitivity), with FLV (focal loss value) (P = 0.0012 for mean deviation, P = 0.0021 for temporal sensitivity) showed a higher correlation. Reduced RNFL thickness mainly, and GCC area minimally, were associated with the worst visual field outcome. FLV is a new prognostic value.
