Assesment of polyunsaturated fatty acids in cord blood of infants of diabetic mothers

Objective:To assess whether infants of diabetic mothers [pre pregnancy diabetics(PPD)and gestational diabetics mellitus(GDm)] have compromised arachidonic and docosahexaenoic acids in their plasma and the relationship with deficiency of the same compounds in their ***:This study was conducted on 30 diabetic mothers(both PPD and GDm)and their *** healthy infants and their mothers with age and sex matched were included as *** infant(of diabetic and non diabetic mothers)were subjected to assessment of APGAR Scoring,thorough history taking and anthropometric *** profile components as well as polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA)were assessed in diabetic GDm and PPD and non diabetic mothers as well as in their ***:High-density lipoproteir(HDL)level was found to be significantly lower in diabetic mothers(specially those with PPD)compared to non diabetic ones,whereas no significant difference was found between babies of the two ***,the current study revealed that diabetic mothers(GDm and PPD)and their babies had significantly higher levels of PUFA precursors linoleic acids(LA)and alpha linoleic acids(ALA).PUFA arachidonic acid(AA)and docosahexaenoic acids(DHA)were found to be significantly lower in diabetic mothers(GDm and PPD)compared to non diabetic mothers,and same results were found in the babies of the two ***:Neonates with diabetic mothers(both GDm and PPD)have highly compromised plasma levels of AA and DHA PUFA,which affects the child well being by far,and produces hazardous multi-system complications on the long run.

Hepatoprotective Activity of Chitosan Nanocarriers Loaded with the Ethyl Acetate Extract of a Stenotrophomonassp. Bacteria Associated with the Red Sea Sponge Amphimedon ochraceain CCl4Induced Hepatotoxicty in Rats

The present study investigated the protective role of chitosannano-carriers loaded with the ethyl acetate extract of a Stenotrophomonas sp. bacteria associated with the Red Sea Sponge Amphimedon ochracea CCl4 induced hepatic damage in rats using the hepatological parameters. Healthy 80 male Sprague-Dawley rats weighed 50 - 80 gm were used. The animals were randomly divided into eight groups. Serum ALT and AST, albumin, direct buluibin and histopathological examinations were investigated. Liver targeting of the drugs has been achieved after administration of drug loaded spherical particles. This mode of administration of drugs enhanced its overall delivery to the liver via passive targeting. The present study revealed that the treatment with ethyl acetate bacterial extract (10 mg/Kg body weight) protected rats from hepatotoxic action of CCl4. Usage of chitosan nanoparticles loaded with the bacterial extract as a drug delivery system has greatly improved the curative effect of bacterial extract. moreover, histopathological studies showed marked reduction in fatty degeneration and centrizonal necrosis in animals receiving the nano-chitosan loaded with the bacterial extract along with ethanol compared to the control group.

Isolation, cytotoxic activity and phylogenetic analysis of Bacillus sp.bacteria associated with the red sea sponge Amphimedon ochracea

most of marine sponges harbor dense and diverse microbial communities of bioactivity importance. Four Gram positive bacterial cultures (HA-21, HA-68, HA- mS-105 and HA-mS-119) were isolated from the sponge Amphimedon ochracea, collected from the Red Sea coast of Egypt. Bacterial species were identified based on the phylogenetic analysis of the nucleotide sequences of their 16S rDNA genes. The Sequences similarity values of 98% - 100% to other strains in the NCBI database showed strong similarities with the 16S rDNA genes of firmicutes (Bacillus sp.). The four bacterial species were submitted to the GenBank database and had accession numbers of: HA-21 [JQ-768238];HA-68 [JQ751264];HA-mS-105 [JQ768239];HAmS-119 [JQ768240]. The cytotoxic activities of the bacterial isolates were tested against three established human cancer cell lines;HepG2 (hepatocellular carcinoma), HCT (colon carcinoma) and mCF-7 (breast carcinoma). The inhibitory effect on these cell lines, measured by mTT cell assay protocol, revealed promising cytotoxic activity of the four isolates (IC50 values (μg/mL) were: HA-21: 13.2, 9.3 and 12.2;HA-68: 10.42, 4.3 and 5.5;HA-mS-105: 46.9, 28.6 and 21.3;HAmS-119: 10.42, 6.3 and 22.1;respectively). The recovery of bacterial strains with cytotoxic activity suggests that marine invertebrates remain a rich source for the isolation of culturable isolates capable of producing novel bioactive secondary metabolites.
