Elucidating the genetic basis of antioxidant status in lettuce (Lactuca sativa)

A diet rich in phytonutrients from fruit and vegetables has been acknowledged to afford protection against a range of human diseases,but many of the most popular vegetables are low in *** relatives of crops may contain allelic variation for genes determining the concentrations of these beneficial phytonutrients,and therefore understanding the genetic basis of this variation is important for breeding efforts to enhance nutritional *** this study,lettuce recombinant inbred lines,generated from a cross between wild and cultivated lettuce(Lactuca serriola and Lactuca sativa,respectively),were analysed for antioxidant(AO)potential and important phytonutrients including carotenoids,chlorophyll and phenolic *** grown in two environments,96 quantitative trait loci(QTL)were identified for these nutritional traits:4 for AO potential,2 for carotenoid content,3 for total chlorophyll content and 87 for individual phenolic compounds(two per compound on average).Most often,the *** alleles conferred an increase in total AOs and *** genes underlying these QTL were identified by BLASTn searches;in several cases,these had functions suggesting involvement in phytonutrient biosynthetic *** of a QTL on linkage group 3,which accounted for>30%of the variation in AO potential,revealed several candidate genes encoding multiple MYB transcription factors which regulate flavonoid biosynthesis and flavanone 3-hydroxylase,an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of the flavonoids quercetin and kaempferol,which are known to have powerful AO ***-up quantitative RT-PCR of these candidates revealed that 5 out of 10 genes investigated were significantly differentially expressed between the wild and cultivated parents,providing further evidence of their potential involvement in determining the contrasting *** results offer exciting opportunities to improve the nutritional content and health benefits of lettu

Theoretical calculations have been carried out to investigate the possible dissociation channels of isoprene. We focus on the major fragment ions of C5H7＋, C5H5＋, C4H5＋, C3H6＋, C3H5＋, C3H4＋, C3H3＋ and C2H3＋, which were observed experimentally from the isoprene dissociative photoionization. The energy calculations were performed with the CBS-QB3 model. All the geometries and energies of the fragments, intermediates and transition states involved in the dissociations channels were determined. finally, the mechanisms of the dissociation pathways were discussed on the comparison of theoretical and experimental results.

Analysis of TESS field Eclipsing Binary Star V948 Her: A Pulsating or Non-pulsating Star?

Pulsating stars occupy a significant place in the H-R diagram and it was thought that all stars inside the classical instability strip should pulsate. However, recent studies showed that there are many non-pulsating stars located inside the classical instability strip. The existence of these non-pulsating stars is still a mystery. To deeply understand the properties of these non-pulsating and pulsating stars, one needs precise fundamental stellar parameters(e.g. mass).for this purpose, the eclipsing binaries are unique systems. Hence, in this study, we present the TESS data analysis of one candidate pulsating eclipsing binary system, V948 Her. TESS data were used for the binary modeling with the literature radial velocity measurements, and the precise fundamental parameters of the system were obtained. The system’s age was derived as 1 ± 0.24 Gyr. The positions of the binary components in the H-R diagram were examined and the primary component was found inside the δ Scuti instability strip. However, in the frequency analysis of TESS data, we found no significant pulsation frequencies. Only the harmonics of the orbital periods were obtained in the analysis. Therefore, the system was classified as a non-pulsator. V948 Her is an important object to understand the nature of non-pulsating stars inside the δ Scuti instability strip.

The TESS light curve(LC)of the marginal contact binary A A Cet was analyzed simultaneously with the radial velocity and the orbital period(OP)change of the system was *** physical parameters of the system were obtained by analyzing the LC of A A Cet with the Wilson-Devinney method,and the absolute parameters of the components were calculated using the results *** the components of AA Cet,the masses and radii were calculated as M_(1)=1.39±0.04 M_⊙,M_(2)=0.48±0.02 M_⊙,and R_(1)=1.64±0.03 R_⊙,R_(2)=1.01±0.04 R_⊙,*** Cet is a marginal contact binary with a temperature difference of 1305 K between its components.A total of 14 eclipse times were obtained from the TESS data and used in the OP analysis together with those collected from the *** has been observed that the change in the OP of AA Cet is in the form of a decreasing *** mass transfer between the components has been interpreted as the reason for this *** OP decrease amount of A A Cet was obtained as dP/dt=0.0062±0.0006 s yr^(-1).and the reason for this decrease was attributed to a 3.3(9)×10^(-8)M_⊙.mass transfer per year from the more massive component to the less massive *** age of A A Cet has been estimated as 7 Gyr,as the age of contact systems helps us to understand their evolution.

Implantable(Bio)sensors as new tools for wireless monitoring of brain neurochemistry in real time

Implantable electrochemical microsensors are characterized by high sensitivity, while amperometric biosensors are very selective in virtue of the biological detecting element. Each sensor, specific for every neurochemical species, is a miniaturized hightechnology device resulting from the combination of several factors: electrode material, shielding polymers, applied electrochemical technique, and in the case of biosensors, biological sensing material, stabilizers, and entrapping chemical nets. In this paper, we summarizethe available technology for the in vivo electrochemical monitoring of neurotransmitters(dopamine, norepinephrine, serotonin, acetylcholine, and glutamate), bioenergetic substrates(glucose, lactate, and oxygen), neuromodulators(ascorbic acid and nitric oxide), and exogenous molecules such as ethanol. We also describe the most represented biotelemetric technologies in order to wirelessly transmit the signals of the abovelisted neurochemicals. Implantable(Bio)sensors, integrated into miniaturized telemetry systems, represent a new generation of analytical tools that could be used for studying the brain's physiology and pathophysiology and the effects of different drugs(or toxic chemicals such as ethanol) on neurochemical systems.

Light Curve Analysis of the AP Dor Binary System using Ground-based and TESS Observations
