The frequent occurrence of exceptionally very heavy rainfall in Mexico during the summer causes flash floods in many areas and major economic losses. As a consequence, a significant part of the annual government budget is diverted to the reconstruction of the disasters caused by floods every year, resulting hold up in the country development. A key element to mitigate the flash flood hazards is the implementation of an early warning system with the ability to process the necessary information in the shortest possible time, in order to?increase structural and non-structural resilience in flood prone regions. The real-time estimation of rainfall is essential for the implementation of such systems and the use of remote sensing instruments that feed the operational rainfall-runoff hydrological models is becoming of increasing importance worldwide. However, in some countries such as Mexico, the application of such technology for operational purposes is still in its infancy. Here the implementation of an operational hydrological model is described for the Mixcoac river basin as part of the non-structural measures that can be applied for intense precipitation events. The main goal is to examine the feasibility of the use of remote sensing instruments and establish a methodology to predict the runoff in real time in urban river basins with complex topography, to increase the resilience of the areas affected by annual floods. The study takes data from weather radar operated by the National Meteorological Service of Mexico, as input to a distributed hydrological model. The distributed unit hydrograph model methodology is used in order to assess its feasibility in urban experimental basin. The basic concepts underlying the model, as well as calibration and validation are discussed. The results demonstrate the feasibility of using weather radar data for modeling rainfall-runoff process with distributed parameter models for urban watersheds. A product resulting from this study w

In mammalian skeletal muscle there are four carboxylases involved in several biochemical processes like gluconeogenesis, tricarboxylic acid cycle anaplerosis, metabolism of fatty acids and metabolism of various amino acids. It has been shown that biotin deficiency reduces body weight at the expense of muscular mass. When necessary, the liver uses skeletal muscle protein to provide glucose and amino acids to organs in need of such compounds. In this paper we analyzed carboxylase specific activities in hind limb skeletal muscle of 3 weeks old BALB/c male mice, at 0, 1, 4, 7, and 14 days of a specific diet with different biotin concentrations. Biotin was used at 0.0, 1.8 or 98.2 mg per kg of food;and was referred to as biotin deficient, sufficient and supplemented, respectively. Water and food supply and consumption by the three groups of mice were the same. Therefore, the observed effects were directly related to biotin ingestion. The body weight of biotin supplemented mice was the same as the body weight of mice in the biotin sufficient group, while biotin deficiency caused body weight reduction after 7 days of biotin depletion. We found that the total protein concentration in the vastus lateralis muscle is associated with the biotin content in the diet. After 7 days, the muscle total protein content was lower in mice of the biotin deficient group while it was higher in the mice from the biotin supplemented group

Lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) is one of the leading vegetables produced by farmers in the Itabaiana region, and thus it is important to study means of sustainable management for the crop. The objective of this work was to evaluate the behavior of lettuce with different sources of organic matter and soil cover. Therefore, it was chosen to cultivate Veronica. The experiment was carried out in the experimental field plot of Project Small Farmer—Great Entrepreneur in the municipality of Itabaiana-SE, in 2010. The design was a randomized block design with four replications, with treatments consisting of five sources of organic matter (organic compost, chicken manure, cattle manure, sheep manure, and castor bean) and a control (no fertilizer), all with and without mulch, totaling 12 treatments. We evaluated the characteristics of plant diameter, plant height, fresh and dry root and shoot matter. We also evaluated the influence on the temperature and soil water tension. All productivity characteristics valuated showed the significant interaction between the type of fertilizer and the mulch, except for root dry weight, where only organic manure was a significant factor. When soil mulch was used, the best source of organic matter for growing lettuce was chicken manure, and in the impossibility of using this cover, we recommend the use of organic compost as a source of organic matter, as it showed the best result in the absence of coverage. The cover age also showed good results in relation to a temperature that promoted lower soil water tensions.

Nutrition is an important factor for the growth and development of plants. Among the main nutritional elements, there are nitrogen （N） and calcium （Ca）. The N comes from two forms of inorganic ions, ammonium （NH4＋） and nitrate （NO3） whose functions in the plant are the increase in leaf area and improving the succulence of many crops, among other essential physiological processes. Both the deficit and excess NO3- have a negative impact on plants increasing susceptibility to insect pests and pathogens, while Ca as divalent ion absorbed Ca2＋ plays an important role in control of physiological disorders and the resistance of plants to diseases to increase the mechanical strength. The N and Ca have a close relationship in the nutritional role of the plant, because the Ca absorption acting nitrates, so that a proper balance affects plants better growth and higher strength.

Nitrogen （N） is the element with the greatest influence on the growth of vegetables and ornamentals, however, form of delivery, either as nitrate （NO3） or ammonium （NH4＋） has different effects on plant development. The NO3 is the main form of N that plants absorb, but when it is the only source of N that has slight effects on root growth, no effects over enzymatic activities, and stimulates the absorption and translocation of cations within the plant. The NH4＋ is the easiest way of assimilation but is highly toxic when the only source or with respect to the concentration of NO3 is too high. To avoid toxicity, the NH4＋ must not exceed 20% of the total N amount in the formulation, however, it is important to consider the species, variety and environmental conditions. The N as supplied also affects the resistance or susceptibility of plants to diseases, but depends on the species and the type of pathogen.

Morelos is the fourth in area cultivated and production volume of avocado. Of the 13 municipalities where it is farmed, Ocuituco represents 43.51% and Tetela del Volain 27.53%. Despite being one of the main fruit species in Morelos, no information related to the fertility of the soil where it is grown, the quality of water available for irrigation and nutritional status of this important fruit for the state. The study was conducted in the municipality of Ocuituco which identified three agro-habitats taking into account climate, landform, soil type and altitude. In each agro-habitat were carried out soil sampling to determine the physical and chemical characteristics based on the Mexican Official Standard NOM-021-SEMARNAT-2000, the chemical quality of water for irrigation as described by Richards （1954） and crop nutrient status of avocado ＂Hass＂ according to the methodology described by Maldonado （2002）. The soils had different physical and chemical characteristics, as well as the nutritional status of avocado trees in the three agro-habitats. The trees had excessive concentration of CI, Cu and Zn. Indices of optimal percentage deviation expressed different nutritional requirements. The water used for irrigation was of low salinity and sodium content, so it can be used without restrictions.

我们在西班牙南部的一个卫生保健地区开展了一项为期1年的Ⅱ型糖尿病病人卫生资源消耗的描述性与观察性研究。总共对517名患者进行了评估,患者的平均发病时间为(9.7±8)年。每一名患者每年总成本为4278欧元,其中直接成本2504欧元,间接成本1774欧元。多元回归分析显示,总成本与以下变量之间独立相关:肥胖、性别、糖尿病相关住院次数、永久残疾、大血管并发症,以及微血管和大血管并发症同时发生。我们的研究结果一方面证实了Ⅱ型糖尿病治疗高昂的经济成本,另一方面也证实了糖尿病的疾病经济成本与肥胖、性别、糖尿病相关住院次数、永久残疾和慢性并发症等因素之间的直接关系。
