Climate change is generating range shifts in many organisms,notably along the elevational gradient in mountainous ***,moving up in elevation exposes organisms to lower oxygen availability,which may reduce the successful reproduction and development of oviparous *** test this possibility in an upwardcolonizing species,we artificially incubated developing embryos of the viperine snake(Natrix maura)using a split-clutch design,in conditions of extreme high elevation(hypoxia at 2877 m above sea level;72%sea-level equivalent O2 availability)or low elevation(control group;*** at 436 m above sea level).Hatching success did not differ between the two *** developing at extreme high elevation had higher heart rates and hatched earlier,resulting in hatchlings that were smaller in body size and slower swimmers compared to their siblings incubated at lower ***,post-hatching reciprocal transplant of juveniles showed that snakes which developed at extreme high elevation,when transferred back to low elevation,did not recover full performance compared to their siblings from the low elevation incubation *** results suggest that incubation at extreme high elevation,including the effects of hypoxia,will not prevent oviparous ectotherms from producing viable young,but may pose significant physiological challenges on developing offspring in *** early-life performance limitations imposed by extreme high elevation could have negative consequences on adult phenotypes,including on fitness-related traits.

An Integrated Approach for Optimal Design of Micro gas Turbine Combustors

The present work presents an approach for the optimized design of small gas turbine combustors, that integrates a0-D code, CFD analyses and an advanced game theory multi-objective optimization algorithm. The output of the0-D code is a baseline design of the combustor, given the required fuel characteristics, the basic geometry (tubularor annular) and the combustion concept (i.e. lean premixed primary zone or diffusive processes). For the optimizationof the baseline design a simplified parametric CAD/mesher model is then defined and submitted to a CFDcode. Free parameters of the optimization process are position and size of the liner hole arrays, their total area andthe shape of the exit duct, while different objectives are the minimization of NOx emissions, pressure losses andcombustor exit Pattern Factor. A 3D simulation of the optimized geometry completes the design procedure. As afirst demonstrative example, the integrated design process was applied to a tubular combustion chamber with alean premixed primary zone for a recuperative methane-fuelled small gas turbine of the 100 kW class.

Catalytic steam methane reforming enhanced by CO_2 capture on CaO based bi-functional compounds

Sorption enhanced steam methane reforming（SE-SMR） was performed to maximize hydrogen production and contemporary remove COfrom the product stream using bi-functional sorbent-catalyst *** were tested at two different scales: micro and laboratory. The CaO amount varied in the CaO-CaAlOsorbent system synthesized by wet mixing(CaO content of 100 wt%, 56 wt%, 30 wt%, or 0 wt% and balance of CaAlO) which were upgraded to bi-functional compounds by impregnation of 3 wt% of Ni. Nitrogen adsorption（BET/BJH）, X-Ray Diffraction（XRD）, Temperature-Programmed Reduction（TPR） and Scanning and Transmission Electronic Microscopy（SEM and TEM, respectively） analyses were performed to characterize structural and textural properties and reducibility of the bi-functional materials and evaluate their catalytic behavior. A fixed sorbent composition CaO-CaAlO(56 wt% of CaO and CaAlObalance), was chosen to study the effect of different weight hourly space times（WHST） and CHstream compositions in SE-SMR activity. Impregnated mayenite at both micro and laboratory scales showed stable Hcontent of almost 74%, with CHconversion of 72% similarly to the values reported by the sample containing 30 wt% of CaO in the *** with 30 wt% of CaO showed promisingly behavior, enhancing Hcontent up to almost 94.5%.When the sorption enhanced reaction is performed roughly 89% of CHconversion is achieved, and after the pre-breakthrough, the catalyst worked at the thermodynamic level. During cycling sorption/regeneration experiments, even if COremoval efficiency slightly decreases, CHconversion and Hyield remain stable.

Multi-resistant bacteria in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis: A new step in management?

Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis(SBP) is the most typical infection observed in cirrhosis patients. SBP is responsible for an in-hospital mortality rate of approximately 32%. Recently, pattern changes in the bacterial flora of cirrhosis patients have been observed, and an increase in the prevalence of infections caused by multi-resistant bacteria has been noted. The wide-scale use of quinolones in the prophylaxis of SBP has promoted flora modifications and resulted in the development of bacterial resistance. The efficacy of traditionally recommended therapy has been low in nosocomial infections(up to 40%), and multi-resistance has been observed in up to 22% of isolated germs in nosocomial SBP. For this reason, the use of a broad empirical spectrum antibiotic has been suggested in these situations. The distinction between community-acquired infectious episodes, healthcare-associated infections, or nosocomial infections, and the identification of risk factors for multi-resistant germs can aid in the decision-making process regarding the empirical choice of antibiotic therapy. Broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents, such as carbapenems with or without glycopeptides or piperacillin-tazobactam, should be considered for the initial treatment not only of nosocomial infections but also of healthcare-associated infections when the risk factors or severity signs for multi-resistant bacteria are apparent. The use of cephalosporins should be restricted to community-acquired infections.

The Default Risk： An Empirical Analysis on the Automotive Companies

In Italian companies, especially in small and medium enterprises （SME）, the management of financial risks, that is considered out of the core business, has not taken yet the role that it should compete in the logic of value creation that a lot of the company＇s management argues. Towards risk is witnessing a real cultural rejection, mostly it originated from the widespread belief that its operation is fraught with positive effects only in companies that have particular degrees of complexity, because they are organized in groups or because they operate in markets and different contexts. This was due to an erroneous conception of the value that drives most of the businesses to remain, in fact, and still anchored to traditional forms of management, aimed at maximizing performance accounting. The paper after analyzing the default risk proceeds to calculate the Zeta-score through discriminant analysis of a panel of companies belonging to the automotive sector.

An Inside View of Microcredit in Panama： The Financial Investment in MFIs

The idea of this survey on microfinance in Panama arises from the importance of this financial sector in Latin America, in particular this paper analyzes the system of microcredit and estimate, among other things, the financial needs of the institutions of microcredit as a potential target of international investment. The present paper aims to provide a cognitive framework on microcredit in Panama. It wants to demonstrate how this country can be an area in which international investors can operate considering that this form of credit can improve their yields especially in countries, such as Panama, characterized by high interest rates. Under the methodological point of view, the paper considers the financial variables of microcredit in Panama. In this way, it reaches the goal of the research to identify MFIs （micro finance institutions） as a potential target of investors.

Mitigation of Human Exposure to Electromagnetic Fields Using Carbon Foam and Carbon Nanotubes

In recent years there has been increasing concern about the possible consequences on human health from exposure to RF fields produced by wireless telecommunication technologies. In this work the coupling between carbon foam and composite materials made of carbon nanotubes and epoxy-resin allows to build a material able to absorb the electromagnetic field thus reducing its intensity in the environment where the mitigation of electromagnetic field is required. The Frequency range considered is 2 GHz - 3 GHz which is the most common frequency band used in wireless network and microwave oven too. Two different kind of heterogeneous materials are designed, one is a layered radar absorbing material made exclusively of epoxy resin and carbon nanotube in different weight percentage, the others are porous carbon foam where the pores are supposed be filled with carbon nanotubes and epoxy-resin. Both type of materials show interesting absorption properties reaching peak of reflection coefficient between –15 dB and –45 dB for a normally incident plane wave.
