Dendrites play irreplaceable roles in the nerve conduction pathway and are vulnerable to various *** axotomy of motor neurons results in the retraction of dendritic arbors,and the dendritic arbor can be re-expanded when reinnervation is *** is a target that regulates the cytoskeleton and promotes neuronal survival and axon ***,the role of RhoA in dendrite degeneration and regeneration is *** this study,we explored the potential role of RhoA in dendrites.A line of motor neuronal conditional knockout mice was developed by crossbreeding HB9~(Cre+)mice with RhoA~(flox/flox)*** established two models for assaying dendrite degeneration and regeneration,in which the brachial plexus was transection or crush injured,*** found that at 28 days after brachial plexus transection,the density,complexity,and structural integrity of dendrites in the ventral horn of the spinal cord of RhoA conditional knockout mice were slightly decreased compared with that in Cre *** underwent degeneration at 7 and 14 days after brachial plexus transection and recovered at 28–56 *** density,complexity,and structural integrity of dendrites in the ventral horn of the spinal cord of RhoA conditional knockout mice recovered compared with results in Cre *** findings suggest that RhoA knockout in motor neurons attenuates dendrite degeneration and promotes dendrite regeneration after peripheral nerve injury.

Service-Cost-Sharing Contract Design for a Dual-Channel Supply Chain with Free Riding

This paper considers a dual channel supply chain,where a manufacturer sells a single product through his/her online channel and a traditional retailer,who provides consumers with pre-sale *** manufacturer's online channel may free-ride the retailer's pre-sale service,which reduces the retailer's desired effort level,and hence may hurt the manufacturer's and the overall supply chain *** both Manufacturer-and Retailer-Stackelberg settings,we study how the manufacturer designs a service-cost-sharing(SCS for brevity)contract to enhance the retailer's service effort level,and how free riding influences two members'optimal *** design an algorithm for determining the two members’optimal decisions under each *** three main findings are found:(i)In the Manufacturer-Stackelberg setting,the SCS contract can enhance the retailer's service effort level and eliminate the negative impact incurred by free riding,but can't in the Retailer-Stackelberg setting,(ii)Under the SCS contract,the smaller the fraction of service cost the retailer is requested to share,the more detrimental to the retailer it will be under certain *** is,the phenomenon called"counter-profit cost-sharing"appears,(iii)Both players like to act as a leader if the price competition between the two channels is not relatively very fierce,otherwise they both like to act as a follower.

Modeling static friction behavior of elastic–plastic spherical adhesive microcontact in full-stick condition

The static friction behavior of an elastic–plastic spherical adhesive microcontact between a rigid flat and a deformable sphere under combined normal and tangential loading is studied by the finite element method(FEM).The contact between the sphere and the rigid flat is assumed to be full-stick,and the sliding inception is related to a loss of tangential *** intermolecular force between the rigid flat and the sphere is assessed by the Lennard–Jones(LJ)potential,which is applied to the sphere and the rigid flat by a user *** evolution of the adhesive force with tangential displacement in the full-stick condition is *** results indicate that the increasing effect of adhesive energy on the static friction coefficient gradually diminishes with an increase in the adhesive energy and the external normal ***,based on an extensive parametric study,an empirical dimensionless expression is obtained to predict the static friction coefficient of the spherical adhesive microcontact considering the intermolecular force.

Antioxidative potential of metformin:Possible protective mechanism against generating OH radicals

Exposure to particulate matter(PM)can lead to the excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS),which causes oxidative stress and endangers human *** this study,the effects of metformin on PM-induced radicals were investigated,and the antioxidation reaction mechanism of metformin was analyzed by the density functional theory(DFT)*** corresponding results revealed that the consumption rate of dithiothreitol(DTT)increased as the metformin concentration(0–40 mmol/L)increased under exposure to PM active ***,the OH radical content decreased as the metformin concentration *** result may be related to the consumption of PM-induced OH radicals by metformin,which promotes the DTT consumption ***,because the initiation reaction has a high barrier,the oxidation reaction rate between metformin and·O_(2)–is not very fast,although various catalysts may be present in the human ***,we found that the barrier of metformin induced by OH radicals is only 9.6 kcal/mol while the barrier of metformin induced by oxygen is 57.9 kcal/mol,which shows that the rate of the·OH-initiated oxidative reaction of metformin is much faster and that this reaction path occurs more *** sample analysis,the mean OH radical generation was 55 nmol/min/g(ranging from 5 to 105 nmol/min/g)on haze days and 30 nmol/min/g(ranging from 10 to 50 nmol/min/g)on non-haze ***,OH radical generation was higher on haze days than on neighboring non-haze *** together,all data suggest that metformin could consume the PM-induced radicals,such as OH radicals and·O_(2)–,thereby providing health protection.

The slippery liquid-infused porous surface(s)(SLIPS)that imitates the Nepenthes pitcher plant has proven to be highly versatile and can be combined with various surface characteristics such as dynamic response,antifouling,selective adhesion,and optical/mechanical *** addition,the introduction of a lubricating fluid layer also gives it extremely low contact angle hysteresis and self-repairing properties,which further expands its application ***,SLIPS has been proven to be suitable for many frontier fields such as aerospace,communications,biomedicine,and microfluidic *** this review,we explain the theoretical background of SLIPS and the preparation methods currently available,including the choice of substrate materials and lubricants,and we discuss the design parameters of the liquid injection surface and how to deal with the consumption of lubricants in practical *** addition,the paper focuses on current and potential applications,such as preventing pathogen contamination of and blood adhesion of medical equipment,manipulation of tiny droplets,and directional transportation of ***,some weaknesses that appear when SLIPS is used in these applications are pointed out,which provides a new perspective for the development of SLIPS in the future.

Body size induced changes in metabolic carbon of soil nematodes under N deposition and precipitation regime change in a temperate grassland

Background Global climate change has resulted in precipitation regimes exhibiting an increasing trend in rainfall intensity but a reduction in its frequency. Nitrogen(N) deposition is a crucial component of the global N cycling. Nematode body size is a trait that responds to climate change and is used as a standard trait-based indicator in soil community analysis. Variations in body size influence metabolic carbon(C). We examined the ways by which body size and metabolic C of nematodes respond to changing precipitation regimes and how N deposition regulates these responses by an 8-year manipulative *** Nematode body size was indicated by the community-weighted mean(CWM) mass. We quantified C metabolism components of soil nematodes including production C, respiration C, and corresponding C use efficiency(CUE) under different precipitation intensities and N addition in a semi-arid steppe on the Mongolian Plateau. The Mantel test was used to determine the correlations between CWM, CUE and environmental factors. The partial least squares path modeling(PLS-PM) was conducted to quantify direct or indirect contributions among latent *** We found that heavy precipitation intensity increased the CWM mass of total nematodes and omnivorespredators without N addition. N addition decreased CWM mass of bacterivores across all the precipitation intensity treatments. Stronger precipitation intensities might be favorable for nematode production and respiration C. Variations in the nematode CWM mass drove the CUE to change with N *** Our findings provide new insights into the mechanisms underlying nematode body size and C metabolism, and highlight that explorative studies, such as manipulative experiments, are needed to identify traits underlying size-related effects and to investigate how they affect CUE of nematodes. Hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)) is a high-demand organic chemical reagent and has been widely used in various modern industrial applications. Currently,the prominent method for the preparation of H_(2)O_(2) is the anthraquinone ***, it is not conducive to economic and sustainable development since it is a complex process and involves unfriendly environment and potential hazards. In this context, numerous approaches have been developed to synthesize H_(2)O_(2). Among them, photo/electro-catalytic ones are considered as two of the most promising manners for on-site synthesis of H_(2)O_(2). These alternatives are sustainable in that only water or O_(2) is required. Namely, water oxidation(WOR) or oxygen reduction(ORR)reactions can be further coupled with clean and sustainable energy. For photo/electro-catalytic reactions for H_(2)O_(2) generation, the design of the catalysts is extremely important and has been extensively conducted with an aim to obtain ultimate catalytic performance. This article overviews the basic principles of WOR and ORR,followed by the summary of recent progresses and achievements on the design and performance of various photo/electro-catalysts for H_(2)O_(2) generation. The related mechanisms for these approaches are highlighted from theoretical and experimental aspects. Scientific challenges and opportunities of engineering photo/electro-catalysts for H_(2)O_(2) generation are also outlined and discussed.
