Association between interleukin-21 gene rs907715 polymorphism and gastric precancerous lesions in a Chinese population

BACKGROUND The single nucleotide polymorphisms of interleukin-21(IL-21)gene were confirmed to be related to various diseases,but no studies have examined the possible role of IL-21 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)(rs907715,rs2221903,and rs12508721)in gastric precancerous *** To explore the associations between SNPs of IL-21 gene(rs907715,rs2221903,and rs12508721)and gastric precancerous lesions in a Chinese *** Three SNPs of IL-21 were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction–ligase detection reaction in 588 cases and 290 healthy controls from May 2013 to December 2016 in northwestern *** precancerous lesions were confirmed by endoscopic examination and categorized as non-atrophic gastritis,atrophic gastritis,and intestinal *** statistic and logistic regression were used for data *** IL-21 rs907715 genotype CC and C frequencies were higher in in patients with gastric precancerous lesions than in the controls(OR=1.59,95%CI:1.06-2.38,P=0.013;OR=1.28,95%CI:1.01-2.22,P=0.044,respectively)after adjusting for confounding *** SNP rs907715 in intestinal metaplasia patients,significant differences between cases and controls were observed in the frequencies of genotype CC and C(OR=1.92,95%CI:1.24-2.98,P=0.004;OR=1.53,95%CI:1.04-2.24,P=0.028,respectively);for non-atrophic gastritis and atrophic gastritis patients,the CC and C genotypes showed no significant association with risk in all *** association between either rs2221903 or rs12508721 and gastric precancerous lesions was found in the present *** the haplotype analysis,the TC haplotype(rs907715 and rs12508721)and TT haplotype(rs2221903 and rs907715)were more frequent in the case group than control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Our findings indicate that SNP rs907715 of IL-21 gene is associated with gastric precancerous *** TC haplotype(rs907715 and rs12508721)and TT haplotype(rs2221903 and rs907715)increased the risk of gastric pre

BACKGROUND A 63-year-old female was diagnosed with acute Stanford type A aortic *** patient had pain in the chest and back for 1 *** computed tomography angiography(CTA)showed Stanford type A aortic dissection(Myla type III aortic arch).The intimal tear was located at the top of the aortic arch and retrograded to the ascending *** SUMMARY Preoperatively,a three-dimensional(3D)-printed model of the aortic arch was made according to CTA ***,under the guidance of the 3D-printed aortic model,a pre-fenestrated stent-graft was customized,and the diameter of the stent-graft was reduced intraoperatively by surgeons.3D printing,triple prefenestration,and reduced diameter techniques were used during the *** CTA examinations were performed at the 3rd mo and 1st year after the surgery;the results showed that the aortic dissection was repaired without endoleak,and all three branches of the aortic arch remained *** Applying the triple pre-fenestration technique for aortic arch lesions was feasible and minimally invasive in our *** technique provides a new avenue for thoracic endovascular aortic repair of Stanford type A aortic dissection.

Numerical Simulation on the Production Mechanism of Surface-Wave Plasmas Sustained along a Metal Rod

For interpreting the production mechanism of surface-wave plasmas sustained along a metal rod, electromagnetic simulation on the electromagnetic field distributions and particle-in-cell/Monte Carlo collision （PIC/MCC） simulation of the ionization process are present. The results show that the enhanced electric field of surface plasmon polaritons （SPPs） can be excited in the ion sheath layer between the negative-voltage metal rod and the surface-wave plasmas, which is responsible for maintaining the plasma discharge. Moreover, the spatio-temporal evolutions of plasma density and electric fields are simulated by the PIC/MCC model. It is further suggested that the expanded ion sheath layer can extend the length of plasma domain by increasing the plasma absorbed energy from SPPs.

设置5种不同机制砂细粉含量,在相同配合比条件下,研究混凝土强度及弹性模量受机制砂细粉含量影响规律。研究表明,机制砂细粉含量对机制砂混凝土强度和弹性模量均存在显著影响,且弹性模量对细粉含量的响应更为显著。随着机制砂细粉含量的增加,混凝土抗压强度和劈裂抗拉强度均呈先升后降的变化趋势,混凝土弹性模量则随细粉含量的增加呈持续降低趋势。细粉含量为5%时,抗压强度增幅4.91%,劈裂抗拉强度增幅7.91%,均达到最大值。细粉含量为20%时,混凝土弹性模量降幅高达14.7%。基于细粉含量对混凝土物理力学特性影响规律,机制砂细粉含量为5%时混凝土强度增益效果较佳。

Synchronous occurrence of extramedullary plasmacytoma and squamous cell carcinoma in situ in the larynx: a case report

Extramedullary plasmacytoma of the larynx is rare, especially when coexisted with squamous cell carcinoma in situ. We report a 56-year-old woman with hoarseness for 6 months and dysphonia for a week. Fiberoptic laryngoscopic examination showed a red, smooth-surface swelling in the submucous region of the left ventricle and ventricular band of the larynx. The patient underwent vertical laryngectomy and modified left neck dissection. Postoperative pathologic examination revealed coexisting plasmacytoma and carcinoma in situ. Bone marrow biopsy and systemic radiogram showed no positive findings. The hepatic and renal functions were normal. Monoclonal immunoglobulin light chain of type kappa was detected in urine. Hence, a laryngeal extramedullary plasmacytoma with carcinoma in situ was diagnosed. No recurrence or progression was observed during a 2-year follow-up. Here, we discussed the risk factors, diagnosis, and therapy for this rare disease.

As the major organ for drug metabolism and detoxification,the liver is prone to damage and severely impaired *** treatment of liver diseases is based on a clear understanding of the process underlying liver injury and ***,intravital real-time imaging of liver injury and repair is still limited due to the lack of in vivo reversible visualization *** this end,we proposed a rational design strategy for the development of a reversible upconversion luminescence nanoprobe that allows real-time and in vivo imaging of liver injury and repair *** a proof of concept,we first developed a small molecule probe NB3 which can reversibly respond to related analytes of early liver injury[peroxynitrite(ONOO−)]and liver repair[glutathione(GSH)].The small molecule probe was then integrated with a core–shell upconversion nanoparticle to form a sophisticated *** with traditional small molecule probes,this nanoprobe exhibited a higher selectivity to ONOO−,longer retention time in liver,and wider dynamic response range to GSH after oxidation by ONOO−.The novel nanoprobe facilitated the successful monitoring and discrimination among the different degrees of liver injury and repair in a mouse model.

Comparison of sintering performance of typical specular hematite ores with distinct size distributions

The sintering performance of three typical specular hematite ores（coarse SO-A,intermediate SO-B and ultrafine SO-C）was compared in an industrial ore blend through pilot-scale sinter pot *** effect of particle size of specular hematite ores on their granulation and sintering performance was *** with the coarse SO-A fine and ultrafine SO-C concentrate,the intermediate SO-B showed inferior granulation and sintering performance characterized with poorer bed permeability and productivity,lower sinter strength and higher fuel rates.A new material preparation method was hence proposed and verified at both pilot and industrial *** proposed method by mixing SO-B with a high amount of goethitetype iron ore fines was found to be an effective way in improving the granulation and assimilative characteristics of ore blend comprising 31%intermediate SO-B,leading to improved sinter productivity and lowered fuel *** metallurgical properties and microstructure of sinters were also *** sinters obtained through the proposed preparation method were generally stronger and more reducible on account of better sinter structure with more relict hematite ultimately connected with needle-like silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum and lower porosity.

Application of a pre-filled tissue expander for preventing soft tissue incarceration during tibial distraction osteogenesis

BACKGROUND Bone transport and distraction osteogenesis has been widely used to treat bone defects after traumatic surgery,but,skin and soft tissue incarceration can be as high as 27.6%.AIM To investigate the efficacy of inserting a tissue expander to prevent soft tissue *** Between January 2016 and December 2018,12 patients underwent implantation of a tissue expander in the subcutaneous layer in the vicinity of a tibial defect to maintain the soft tissue in position.A certain amount of normal saline was injected into the tissue expander during surgery and was then gradually extracted to shrink the expander during the course of transport distraction *** tissue expander was removed when the two ends of the tibial defect were close *** In all 12 patients,the expanders remained intact in the subcutaneous layer of the bone defect area during the course of transport distraction *** bone transport was adequate,the expander was removed and the bone transport process was *** the whole process,there was no incarceration of skin and soft tissue in the bone defect *** occurred in one patient,who experienced poor wound *** The pre-filled expander technique can effectively avoid soft tissue *** authors’primary success with this method indicates that it may be a valuable tool in the management of incarcerated soft tissue.
