详细测定了南极洲东方站(Vostok)BH8冰芯126.0～130.0 m段的固体电导率(ECM)、痕量化学组分和微粒浓度,在深度128.7 m处,检测出一距今约4726年的火山信号.研究表明,其火山SO42-净通量为95.8 kg·km-2 ,SO42-峰值浓度为1352.8 ng·g-1,持续时间约10.1年.该火山喷发事件似具有喷发地遥远、规模相对较大、持续时间较长等特点,与前人已报道的某些著名火山喷发事件具可对比性.

The barcelona clinic liver cancer(BCLC)staging system has been approved as guidance for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)treatment guidelines by the main Western clinical liver *** to the BCLC classification,only patients with a small single HCC nodule without signs of portal hypertension or hyperbilirubinemia should undergo liver *** contrast,patients with intermediate-advanced HCC should be scheduled for palliative therapies,even if the lesion is *** studies report good short-term and long-term outcomes in patients with intermediate-advanced HCC treated by liver ***,this classification has been criticised because it excludes many patients who could benefit from curative *** aim of this review was to evaluate the role of surgery beyond the BCLC *** liver resection can be performed in patients with portal hypertension and well-compensated liver function with a 5-year survival rate of 50%.Surgery also offers good long-term result in selected patients with multiple or large HCCs with a reported 5-year survival rate of over 50%and 40%,*** macrovascular invasion is associated with a poor prognosis,liver resection provides better long-term results than palliative therapies or best supportive ***,researchers have identified several genes whose altered expression influences the prognosis of patients with *** genes may be useful for classifying the biological behaviour of different tumours.A revision of the BCLC classification should be introduced to provide the best treatment strategy and to ensure the best prognosis in patients with HCC.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the sixth most common malignancy in women. Ovarian tumors consist of several clinical and pathological entities that share an anatomic site. The gold standard treatment, both in front-line and in adjuvant setting, is represented by carboplatin/paclitaxel combination. Conversely, the second-line treatment is not well defined. The response to platinum is the major prognostic factor for survival. In this review we discuss the current views on platinum-refractory/resistant patient treatment only, which includes patients progressing or relapsing within 6 months from the last platinum-based course. Concerning this subgroup, the activity of several conventional drugs was confirmed in different trials without a significant impact in terms of overall survival. In the last years particular emphasis was given to targeted anti-angiogenetic therapy which produced a survival improvement with an acceptable toxicity profile. New “ad hoc” approaches, with a major attention to outcome-predictive factors, are eagerly awaited.

The german Mouse Clinic was established as a phenotyping center to provide the scientific community with systematic standardized phenotyping of mouse models from various genetic *** found metabolic phenotypes in nine out of 20 mutant lines screened in a primary *** on these findings,the mutants were analyzed in secondary and tertiary *** of a sample mutant line,isolated from the ENU-screen at the National Research Center for Environment and Health in Munich,were found to have lower body weight,consume less food,but have higher ratios of metabolized energy per unit body weight compared with their wild-type *** metabolic rate and heat production were simultaneously increased by 16–18%,whereas body fat content was reduced by 11–16%.The combination of various parameters of energy consumption,expenditure and energy storage illustrate the metabolic demands of the sample mutant mouse line and demonstrate the utility of the powerful phenotyping tool used at the german Mouse Clinic.

BACKgROUND Surgical resection and radiofrequency ablation(RFA)represent two possible strategy in treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in Milan *** To evaluate short-and long-term outcome in elderly patients(>70 years)with HCC in Milan criteria,which underwent liver resection(LR)or *** The study included 594 patients with HCC in Milan criteria(429 in LR group and 165 in RFA group)managed in 10 European *** analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method before and after propensity score matching(PSM)and Cox *** After PSM,we compared 136 patients in the LR group with 136 patients in the RFA *** survival at 1,3,and 5 years was 91%,80%,and 76%in the LR group and 97%,67%,and 41%in the RFA group respectively(P=0.001).Diseasefree survival at 1,3,and 5 years was 84%,60%and 44%for the LR group,and 63%,36%,and 25%for the RFA group(P=0.001).Postoperative Clavien-Dindo IIIIV complications were lower in the RFA group(1%vs 11%,P=0.001)in association with a shorter length of stay(2 d vs 7 d,P=0.001).In multivariate analysis,Model for End-stage Liver Disease(MELD)score(>10)[odds ratio(OR)=1.89],increased value of international normalized ratio(>1.3)(OR=1.60),treatment with radiofrequency(OR=1.46),and multiple nodules(OR=1.19)were independent predictors of a poor overall survival while a high MELD score(>10)(OR=1.51)and radiofrequency(OR=1.37)were independent factors associated with a higher recurrence *** despite a longer length of stay and a higher rate of severe postoperative complications,surgery provided better results in long-term oncological outcomes as compared to ablation in elderly patients(>70 years)with HCC in Milan criteria.

BACKgROUND Liver resection and radiofrequency ablation are considered curative options for hepatocellular *** choice between these techniques is still controversial especially in cases of hepatocellular carcinoma affecting posterosuperior segments in elderly *** To compare post-operative outcomes between liver resection and radiofrequency ablation in elderly with single hepatocellular carcinoma located in posterosuperior *** A retrospective multicentric study was performed enrolling 77 patients age≥70-years-old with single hepatocellular carcinoma(≤30 mm),located in posterosuperior segments(4a,7,8).Patients were divided into liver resection and radiofrequency ablation groups and preoperative,peri-operative and long-term outcomes were retrospectively analyzed and compared using a 1:1 propensity score *** After propensity score matching,twenty-six patients were included in each *** time and overall postoperative complications were higher in the resection group compared to the ablation group(165 min vs 20 min,Pgnificantly longer in the resection group than in the ablation group(7.5 d vs 3 d,Pgnificant differences between resection and ablation group in terms of overall survival and disease free survival at 1,3,and 5 *** Radiofrequency ablation in posterosuperior segments in elderly is safe and feasible and ensures a short hospital stay,better quality of life and does not modify the overall and disease-free survival.
