Data Driven Modelling of Coronavirus Spread in Spain

During the late months of last year,a novel coronavirus was detected in Hubei,China.The virus,since then,has spread all across the globe forcing Word Health Organization(WHO)to declare COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic.In Spain,the virus started infecting the country slowly until rapid growth of infected people occurred in Madrid,Barcelona and other major cities.The government in an attempt to stop the rapssid spread of the virus and ensure that health system will not reach its capacity,implement strict measures by putting the entire country in quarantine.The duration of these measures,depends on the evolution of the virus in Spain.In this study,a Deep neural network approach using Monte Carlo is proposed for generating a database to train networks for estimating the optimal parameters of a SIR epidemiology model.The number of total infected people as of April 7 in Spain is considered as input to the Deep neural network.The adaptability of the model was evaluated using the latest data upon completion of this paper,i.e.,April 14.The date range for the peak of infected people(i.e.,active cases)based on the new information is estimated to be within 74 to 109 days after the first recorded case of COVID-19 in Spain.In addition,a curve fitting measure based on the squared Euclidean distance indicates that according to the current data the peak might occur before the 86th day.Collectively,Deep neural networks have proven accurate and useful tools in handling big epidemiological data and for peak prediction estimates.

Compression properties of cost-efficient porous expanded clay reinforced AA7075 syntactic foams fabricated by industrial-oriented die casting technology

In today’s manufacturing industries,hard competition between rival firms makes it compulsory for researchers to design lighter and cheaper machine components due to the megatrends of cost-effectiveness and anti-pollution.At this point,aluminum syntactic foams(ASFs)are new-generation engineering composites and come into the upfront as a problem-solver.Owing to their features like low density,sufficient elongation,and perfect energy absorption ability,these advanced foams have been considerably seductive for many industrial sectors nowadays.In this study,an industrial-oriented automatic die casting technology was used for the first time to manufacture the combination of AA7075/porous expanded clay(PEC).Micro evaluations(optical and FESEM)reveal that there is a homogenous particle distribution in the foam samples,and inspections are compatible with the other ASF studies.Additionally,T6 aging heat treatment was operated on one half of the produced foams to explore the probable impact of aging on the compressive responses.Attained results show that PEC particles can be an alternative to expensive hollow spheres used in the previous works.Besides,a favorable relationship is ascertained between the aging treatment and mechanical properties such as compression strength and plateau strength.

Karl Ludwig Kahlbaum(1828-1899)was the first to conceptualize and describe the main clinical features of a novel psychiatric illness,which he termed catatonia in his groundbreaking monograph published 150 years ago.Although Kahlbaum postulated catatonia as a separate disease entity characterized by psychomotor symptoms and a cyclical course,a close examination of his 26 cases reveals that most of them presented with motor symptom complexes or syndromes associated with various psychiatric and medical conditions.In his classification system,Kraepelin categorized catatonic motor symptoms that occur in combination with psychotic symptoms and typically have a poor prognosis within his dementia praecox(schizophrenia)disease entity.Because of the substantial influence of Kraepelin’s classification,catatonia was predominantly perceived as a component of schizophrenia for most of the 20th century.However,with the advent of the psychopharmacotherapy era starting from the early 1950s,interest in catatonia in both clinical practice and research subsided until the early 2000s.The past two decades have witnessed a resurgence of interest in catatonia.The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition,marked a paradigmatic shift by acknowledging that catatonia can occur secondary to various psychiatric and medical conditions.The introduction of an independent diagnostic category termed“Catatonia not Otherwise Specified”significantly stimulated research in this field.The authors briefly review the history and findings of recent catatonia research and highlight promising directions for future exploration.

The ILux^(®) compared to the mechanical meibomian gland expression for the treatment of moderate and severe meibomian gland dysfunction

AIM:To compare the safety and effectiveness of eyelid treatment with the ILux®-MgD Treatment System in one session versus five sessions of mechanical meibomian gland expression(MMgE)in patients with moderate to severe meibomian gland dysfunction(MgD).METHODS:A prospective,randomized,open-label,and controlled clinical trial that compared one session of the ILux®MgD Treatment System versus five sessions of MMgE in both eyes of 130 patients aged≥18y with Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)scores≥13,total meibomian gland scores(MgS)ofn the lower eyelid of each eye,and non-invasive tear break-up time(nI-TBUT)ndomized 1:1 to ILux®or MMgE.RESULTS:The mean age was 58±17.49y.Baseline total MgS scores in both treatment groups were comparable.During follow-up,there were significant differences in total MgS and per sector with Pnalysis was performed using generalized estimating equations corresponding to the generalized linear model for repeated means to determine the treatment relationship with total MgS,nIBUT,and OSDI.There was a significant difference between ILux®and MMgE(Pnth in MgS,nI-BUT,and OSDI scores.no adverse events were reported.COnCLUSIOn:ILux®treatment compared to MMgE significantly improves symptoms and signs in patients with moderate to severe MgD for one year without adverse events.

The effects of a magnetic dipole on a nonlinear thermally radiative ferromagnetic liquidﬂowing over a stretched surface in the presence of Brownian motion and thermophoresis are investigated.By means of a similarity transformation,ordinary differential equations are derived and solved afterwards using a numerical(the BVP4C)method.The impact of various parameters,namely the velocity,temperature,concentration,is presented graphically.It is shown that the nanoparticles properties,in conjunction with the magnetic dipole effect,can increase the thermal conductivity of the engineered nanoﬂuid and,consequently,the heat transfer.Comparison with earlier studies indicates high accuracy and effectiveness of the numerical approach.An increase in the Brow-nian motion parameter and thermophoresis parameter enhances the concentration and the related boundary layer.The skin-friction rises when the viscosity parameter is increased.A larger value of the ferromagnetic para-meter results in a higher skin-friction and,vice versa,in a smaller nusselt number.

Directed x-rays produced in the interaction of sub-picosecond laser pulses of moderate relativistic intensity with plasma of near-critical density are investigated. Synchrotron-like (betatron) radiation occurs in the process of direct laser acceleration (DLA) of electrons in a relativisticlaser channel when the electrons undergo transverse betatron oscillations in self-generated quasi-static electric and magnetic fields. In anexperiment at the PHELIX laser system, high-current directed beams of DLA electrons with a mean energy ten times higher than the ponderomotive potential and maximum energy up to 100 MeV were measured at 10^(19) W/cm^(2)laser intensity. The spectrum of directed x-raysin the range of 5–60 keV was evaluated using two sets of Ross filters placed at 0°and 10°to the laser pulse propagation axis. The differential x-ray absorption method allowed for absolute measurements of the angular-dependent photon fluence. We report 10^(13) photons/sr withenergies >5 keV measured at 0°to the laser axis and a brilliance of 10^(21) photons s^(−1) mm^(−2) mrad−2(0.1%BW)−1. The angular distributionof the emission has an FWHM of 14°–16°. Thanks to the ultra-high photon fluence, point-like radiation source, and ultra-short emissiontime, DLA-based keV backlighters are promising for various applications in high-energy-density research with kilojoule petawatt-class laserfacilities.

Solar-assisted photocatalytic water splitting using defective UiO-66 solids from modulated synthesis

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)are attracting increasing interests as photocatalysts for solar-driven hydrogen production from water.This paper reports on a comparative study of using either acetic acid(AA)or trifluoroacetic acid(TFA)as the representative UiO-66 organic modulators for synthesizing visible light responsive UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:nH_(2) or nO_(2))photocatalysts for water splitting.The results show that photocatalytic hydrogen generation from a water/methanol mixture can be improved by varying the nature and amount of the modulator employed to prepare the different UiO-66(Zr)-X(X:nH_(2) or nO_(2))solid derivatives.UiO-66(Zr)-nH_(2) was the most active photocatalyst,followed by UiO-66(Zr)-nO_(2),both prepared with 12 equivalents of AA with respect to the organic ligand.This UiO-66(Zr)-nH_(2) solid was more active than the parent MOF in photocatalytic overall water splitting(OWS)(H_(2) and O_(2) production of 450 and 160μmol·g^(-1),respectively,in 5 h;apparent quantum yield(AQY)at 400 nm of 0.06%)in the absence of methanol and compares favourably with analogous reports.Information on the photocatalytic activity of the most active solids of both series was obtained by means of a series of techniques,including ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)diffuse reflectance,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),laser flash photolysis(LFP),electron spin resonance(ESR),photoluminescence and photoelectrochemical measurements together with density functional theory(DFT)calculations.The results showed that organic acid modulators can be used to enhance the photocatalytic activity of missing linker UiO-66 defective materials in solar-powered water splitting.

The halopyrimidine 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine(BrdU)is an exogenous marker of DnA synthesis.Since the introduction of monoclonal antibodies against BrdU,an increasing number of methodologies have been used for the immunodetection of this synthesized bromine-tagged base analogue into replicating DnA.BrdU labeling is widely used for identifying neuron precursors and following their fate during the embryonic,perinatal,and adult neurogenesis in a variety of vertebrate species including birds,reptiles,and mammals.Due to BrdU toxicity,its incorporation into replicating DnA presents adverse consequences on the generation,survival,and settled patterns of cells.This may lead to false results and misinterpretation in the identification of proliferative neuroblasts.In this review,I will indicate the detrimental effects of this nucleoside during the development of the central nervous system,as well as the reliability of BrdU labeling to detect proliferating neuroblasts.Moreover,it will show factors influencing BrdU immunodetection and the contribution of this nucleoside to the study of prenatal,perinatal,and adult neurogenesis.Human adult neurogenesis will also be discussed.It is my hope that this review serves as a reference for those researchers who focused on detecting cells that are in the synthetic phase of the cell cycle.

Chebyshev polynomial-based Ritz method for thermal buckling and free vibration behaviors of metal foam beams

This study presents the Chebyshev polynomials-based Ritz method to examine the thermal buckling and free vibration characteristics of metal foam beams.The analyses include three models for porosity distribution and two scenarios for thermal distribution.The material properties are assessed under two conditions,i.e.,temperature dependence and temperature independence.The theoretical framework for the beams is based on the higher-order shear deformation theory,which incorporates shear deformations with higher-order polynomials.The governing equations are established from the Lagrange equations,and the beam displacement fields are approximated by the Chebyshev polynomials.numerical simulations are performed to evaluate the effects of thermal load,slenderness,boundary condition(BC),and porosity distribution on the buckling and vibration behaviors of metal foam beams.The findings highlight the significant influence of temperature-dependent(TD)material properties on metal foam beams'buckling and vibration responses.
