We explore the impacts of economic and financial dislocations caused by COVID-19 pandemic shocks on food sales in the United States from January 2020 to January *** use the US weekly economic index(WEI)to measure economic dislocations and the Chicago Board Options Exchange volatility index(VIX)to capture the broader stock market *** validate the NARDL model by testing a battery of models using the autoregressive distributed lags(ARDL)methodology(ARDL,NARDL,and QARDL specifications).Our study postulates that an increase in WEI has a significant negative long-term effect on food sales,whereas a decrease in WEI has no statistically significant(long-run)***,policy responses that ignore asymmetric effects and hidden cointegration may fail to promote food security during pandemics.

Pentoxifylline versus prednisolone for severe alcoholic hepatitis:A randomized controlled trial

AIM:To compare the efficacy of pentoxifylline and prednisolone in the treatment of severe alcoholic hepatitis,and to evaluate the role of different liver function scores in predicting ***:Sixty-eight patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis(Maddrey score≥32)received pentoxifylline(n=34,groupⅠ)or prednisolone(n=34,groupⅡ) for 28 d in a randomized double-blind controlled study,and subsequently in an open study(with a tapering dose of prednisolone)for a total of 3 mo,and were followed up over a period of 12 ***:Twelve patients in groupⅡdied at the end of 3 mo in contrast to five patients in groupⅠ.The probability of dying at the end of 3 mo was higher in groupⅡas compared to groupⅠ(35.29%vs 14.71%,P=0.04;log rank test).Six patients in groupⅡ developed hepatorenal syndrome as compared to none in groupⅠ.Pentoxifylline was associated with a significantly lower model for end-stage liver disease(MELD)score at the end of 28 d of therapy(15.53±3.63 vs 17.78±4.56,P=0.04).Higher baseline Maddrey score was associated with increased ***:Reduced mortality,improved risk-benefit profile and renoprotective effects of pentoxifylline compared with prednisolone suggest that pentoxifylline is superior to prednisolone for treatment of severe alcoholic hepatitis.

3D convolutional selective autoencoder for instability detection in combustion systems

While analytical solutions of critical(phase)transitions in dynamical systems are abundant for simple nonlinear systems,such analysis remains intractable for real-life dynamical systems.A key example is thermoacoustic insta-bility in combustion,where prediction or early detection of the onset of instability is a hard technical challenge,which needs to be addressed to build safer and more energy-efficient gas turbine engines powering aerospace and energy *** instabilities arising in combustion chambers of engines are mathematically too complex to *** address this issue in a data-driven manner instead,we propose a novel deep learning architecture called 3D convolutional selective autoencoder(3D-CSAE)to detect the evolution of self-excited oscillations using spatiotemporal data,i.e.,hi-speed videos taken from a swirl-stabilized combustor(laboratory surrogate of gas turbine engine combustor).3D-CSAE consists of filters to learn,in a hierarchical fashion,the complex visual and dynamic features related to combustion instability from the training videos(i.e.,two spatial dimensions for the image frames and the third dimension for time).We train the 3D-CSAE on frames of videos obtained from a limited set of operating *** select the 3D-CSAE hyper-parameters that are effective for characterizing hierarchical and multiscale instability structure evolution by utilizing the dynamic information available in the *** proposed model clearly shows performance improvement in detecting the precursors and the onset of *** machine learning-driven results are verified with physics-based off-line *** active control mechanisms can directly leverage the proposed online detection capability of 3D-CSAE to mitigate the adverse effects of combustion instabilities on the engine operating under various stringent requirements and conditions.

A high-resolution (10 km × 10 km) multiscale ocean modeling system was developed for short-term (1 - 2 weeks) ocean state hindcasting/forecasting in the Bay of Bengal (BOB) region. This paper is Part I of a two-part series of studies. The Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) was implemented and initialized with Levitus 1/4° climatological fields for short-term forecasting. The results from these climatology-based model simulations for three representative months (February, June and October) in three different seasons (winter, summer and autumn) are discussed herein. This high-resolution model implementation simulates most of the observed dominant circulation features. The multiscale features during February include an anticyclonic basin-scalegyre with a strong western boundary current (WBC) in the western basin, the formation of several shallow mesoscale eddies in the head of the Bay and a cyclonic sub-basin-scale Myanmar gyre in the northeast. During June, no well-defined boundary current is simulated along the Indian coast;instead, alternating cyclonic and anticyclonic eddies appear along the east coast with cross-basin eastward flow to support a deep cyclonic Andaman gyre. In October, a basin-scale cyclonic gyre with a continuous well-defined East India Coastal Current (EICC), weak inflow from the Malacca Strait to the Andaman Sea and advection of BOB water into the Arabian Sea via the Palk Strait are simulated well by the model. A number of mesoscale eddies appear on the eastern half of the basin during October. Physical pattern of simulated eddies and transports across selected sections are validated against available drifter climatology, ARgO data and previous observations. Application of this system to synoptic short-term predictions for October 2008 will be presented in Part II.

Medicinal plants, vegetables and fruits are the sources of huge number of bioactive lead/scaffolds with therapeutic and nutraceutical importance. Bioautography is a means of target-directed isolation of active molecules on chromatogram. Organic solvents employed in chromatographic separation process can be completely removed before biological detection because these solvents cause inactivation of enzymes and/or death of living organisms. They offer a rapid and easy identification of bioactive lead/scaffolds in complex matrices of plant extracts. Bioautography is a technique to isolate hit（s）/lead（s） by employing a suitable chromatographic process followed by a biological detection system. This review critically describes the methodologies to identify antimicrobial, antioxidant, enzyme inhibitor lead/scaffolds by employing bioautography. A significant number of examples have been incorporated to authenticate the methodologies.

Spectrum occupancy information is neces-sary in a cognitive radio network(CRN)as it helps in modeling and predicting the spectrum availability for efficient dynamic spectrum access(DSA).However,in a CRN,it is difficult to ascertain a priori the pattern of the spectrum usage of the primary user due to its stochastic *** this context,the spectrum occupancy predic-tion proves to be very useful in enhancing the quality of experience of the secondary *** paper investigates the practical prowess of various time-series modeling approaches and the machine learning(ML)techniques for predicting spectrum occupancy,based on a spectrum measurement campaign conducted in Jaipur,Rajasthan,***,the comparison analysis conducted between the above two approaches highlights the trade-off in terms of the respective performance depending upon the nature of the spectrum occupancy ***,prediction through ML-based recurrent neural network proves to perform reasonably well,thereby providing an accurate future spectrum occupancy information for DSA.

We present a case of acute upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage in a patient with systemic vasculitis immunosuppressed on cyclophosphamide and *** patient presented with a diffuse haemorrhagic oesophagitis and a non-specific *** taken from the oesophagus and duodenum demonstrated infection with herpes simplex virus(HSV)and cytomegalovirus(CMV)*** infection of the upper gastrointestinal tract is a recognised complication of immunosuppression and HSV is one of the most common *** on the other hand most commonly causes a colitis or less commonly *** enteritis is rare as is the synchronous infection with two viral agents in an immunocompromised patient having being described in a few case series *** infection of the gastrointestinal tract in immunocompromised patients should be treated with systemic anti-viral medication and consideration to withdrawal of the immunosuppressive therapy if possible and *** authors highlight the need for a high suspicion of viral infection in immunosuppressed patients presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

Appendicular tuberculosis presenting as enterocutaneous fistula over thigh—A rare case report with review of literature

Abdominal tuberculosis is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in children in developing countries. Primary involvement of appendix is very rare. Presentation is usually non specific and diagnosis is made in most cases on histopathlogical examination following appendicectomy. This to our knowledge is the first case of appendicular tuberculosis presenting primarily as spontaneous enterocutaneous fistula over front of right thigh. Barium meal follow-through was diagnostic. Appendicectomy was performed followed by anti-tubercular treatment which was curative.

Migrating Foreign Body Bronchus: An Unusual Case of Foreign Body Aspiration

Foreign bodies [FB] in the bronchus are important causes of morbidity and mortality in paediatric age group and pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Inert and smooth foreign bodies are prone for migration from one side to other due to minimal inflammatory process and easy mobility. Herein we are reporting a case of electric bulb aspiration which migrated from right main bronchus to left main bronchus.
