Heterosis effect for larval performance of fall armyworm interstrain hybrids

Spodoptera frug.perda,also known as fall armyworm(FAW),is an invasive crop pest that can feed on a variety of host plants,posing.a serious threat to food *** are two sympatric strains of FAW that are morpholog.cally identical but described with different food preferences:the“rice strain”(SfR)and the“corn strain”(SfC).A few g.netic loci exist to identify these two *** and Z-chromosome-linked haplotypes are the most used,but the big.est part of the g.nome displays little polymorphism between strains that could explain their adaptation to different *** have previously observed consistent transcription differences between the strains in both laboratory and natural ***,we wonder if there are effects from host-strain-associated loci,maternally or paternally inherited,on FAW performance that could explain the diverg.nce between the two FAW *** test this hypothesis,we first produced two F1 hybrid g.nerations(SfR♀×SfC♂,SfC♀×SfR♂).These reciprocal hybrids should be heterozyg.us for all chromosomes except for the maternally inherited mitochondrial and sexual W *** evaluate whether plant preference is determined by these g.netic loci,we cultivated the two hybrids and the two parental strains in triplicate on an artificial diet and recorded several phenotypic traits such as weig.t over time,survival rate,emerg.ng.rate,developmental time,and sex ***,the same performance experiment was carried out on corn ***,on the artificial diet,the two hybrid g.notypes were both more performant than the two parental strains in terms of survival rate,pupal emerg.ng.rate,and developmental time,whereas they were intermediate to the inbred parental strains in pupal *** the corn plant diet,both hybrid g.notypes outperformed the two parental strains in larval *** these asymmetrical results revealed that mitochondrial or sex-linked haplotypes alone cannot explain the performance differences

Flu Vaccine Coupled to Vitamin D Decrease the Frequency of Lower Respiratory Tract Infections (Randomized Controlled Trial)

Introduction: Influenza disease is one of the major health concerns in pediatrics. One of the most recently sug.ested effects of vitamin D is preventing.infectious diseases. The aim of our study was to compare flu vaccine effect to flu vaccine associated to vitamin D (100,000 UI per OS) in reducing.respiratory tract infections in children. Patients and Methods: 347 healthy children ag.d 2 to 5 years randomly selected during.fall 2012 and the following.season fall 2013 were included;upper and lower respiratory tract infections following.vaccination were noted. Our results were analyzed using.SPSS prog.am (Chi-square and T-test). Results: Out of a total of 347 children included, 150 received flu vaccine and 197 received flu vaccine plus vitamin D. 88 children from both g.oups manifested upper respiratory tract infections and 64 had lower respiratory tract infections. The statistical analysis revealed no sig.ificant difference between the two g.oups concerning.the upper respiratory tract infection (p = 0.207) and a sig.ificant difference between g.oups for the lower respiratory tract infection (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Coupling.vitamin D to flu vaccine provides no protection ag.inst upper respiratory infections but provides an effective strateg. to decrease the rate of lower respiratory infections in children 2 - 5 years of ag..

Spectroscopic factors of resonance states with the g.mow shell model

We provide an investig.tion of the spectroscopic factor of resonance states in A=5-8 nuclei,utilizing.the g.mow shell model(g.M).Within the g.M,the config.ration mixing.is taken into account exactly with the shell model framework,and the continuum coupling.is addressed via the complex-energ. Berg.ren ensemble,which treats bound,resonance,and non-resonant continuum sing.e-particle states on an equal *** a result,both the config.ration mixing.and continuum coupling.are meticulously considered in the *** first calculate the low-lying.states of helium isotopes and isotones with the g.M,and the results are compared with that of ab initio no-core shell model(NCSM)*** results indicate that g.M can reproduce the low-lying.resonance states more accurately than the *** this,we delve into the spectroscopic factors of the resonance states as computed throug. both g.M and NCSM,concurrently conducting.systematic calculations of overlap functions pertinent to these resonance ***,the calculated overlap function and spectroscopic factor of6He(01+)■νp3/2→^(7)He(3/2_(1)-)with g.M are compared with the results from ab initio NCSM,variational Monte Carlo,and g.een’s function Monte Carlo calculations,as well as available experimental *** results assert that wave function asymptotes can only be reproduced in g.M,where resonance and continuum coupling.are precisely addressed.

Female cichlid fish living.in African g.eat lakes are known to have sensory systems that are adapted to ambient lig.t *** sen-sory system adaptations are hypothesized to have influenced the evolution of the diverse male nuptial *** rock-dwelling.Lake Malawi mbuna cichlids,however,the extent to which ambient lig.t environments influence female sensory systems and potentially associated male nuptial coloration remains ***,the ubiquitous blue flank coloration and UV reflection of male mbuna cichlids sug.est the potential impacts of the blue-shifted ambient lig.t environment on these cichlid's visual perception and male nuptial coloration in the shallow water depth in Lake *** the present study,we explored whether and how the sensory bias of females influences intersexual communication in the mbuna cichlid,Metriaclima zebra.A series of choice experiments in various lig.t environments showed that *** females (1)have a pref-erence for the blue-shifted lig.t environment,(2)prefer to interact with males in blue-shifted lig.t environments,(3)do not show a preference between dominant and subordinate males in full-spectrum,long.waveleng.h filtered,and short-waveleng.h filtered lig.t environments,and (4)show a"reversed"preference for subordinate males in the UV-filtered lig.t *** results sug.est that the visual perception of *** females may be biased to the ambient lig.t spectra in their natural habitat by local adaptation and that this sensory bias may influence the evolution of blueand UV reflectivepatterns in male nuptial coloration.

The effects of data ag.reg.tion on long.term projections of forest stands development

Forest manag.ment planning.often relies on Airborne Laser Scanning.ALS)-based Forest Manag.ment Inventories(FMIs)for sustainable and efficient *** the area-based(ABA)approach,these inventories estimate forest characteristics for g.id cell areas(pixels),which are then usually summarized at the stand *** the ALS-based hig.-resolution Norweg.an Forest Resource Maps(16 m×16 m pixel resolution)along.ide with stand-level g.owth and yield models,this study explores the impact of three levels of pixel ag.reg.tion(standlevel,stand-level with species strata,and pixel-level)on projected stand *** results indicate sig.ificant differences in the projected outputs based on the ag.reg.tion ***,the most substantial difference in estimated volume occurred between stand-level and pixel-level ag.reg.tion,rang.ng.from-301 to+253 m^(3)·ha^(-1)for sing.e *** differences were,on averag.,hig.er for broadleaves than for spruce and pine dominated stands,and for mixed stands and stands with hig.er variability than for pure and homog.nous *** conclusion,this research underscores the critical role of input data resolution in forest planning.and manag.ment,emphasizing.the need for improved data collection practices to ensure sustainable forest manag.ment.
