Potassium(K)is the most abundant cation in the vast majority of *** is required in large quantities which,in an agronomic context,typically necessitates application of K in the form of potash or other K ***,the price of K fertiliser has risen dramatically,a situation that is paralleled by increasing K deficiency of soils around the globe.A potential solution to this problem is to reduce crop K fertiliser dependency by replacing it with sodium(Na)fertiliser which carries a much smaller price *** this paper we discuss the physiological roles of K and Na and the implications of Na fertilisation for crop cultivation and soil *** using greenhouse growth assays we show distinct growth promotion after Na fertilisation in wheat,tomato,oilseed and *** results also show that up to 60%of tissue K can be substituted by Na without growth *** on these data,simple economic models suggest that(part)replacement of K fertiliser with Na fertiliser leads to considerable savings.

Salinity stress induces oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen species （ROS）： superoxide radicals, hydrogen peroxide （H2O2） and hydroxyl radicals. Activities of both enzymatic and non-enzymatic components of the antioxidant system and related growth parameters were studied in the roots of the salt tolerant rice variety FL478 and the sensitive variety IR29 in response to long term stress （12 d）induced by 50 mmol/L NaCI. The comparative study showed that FL478 maintained higher relative growth rate and lower Na＋/K＋ in the roots than IR29 due to a higher membrane stability index that effectively exclude Na＋. Lower TBARS （thiobarbituric acid reactive substance） content in FL478 roots indicated that its membrane was relatively unaffected by ROS despite high H2O2 content recorded under the salinity stress. Relatively higher superoxide dismutase activity along with a parallel increase in transcript level of superoxide dismutase （Os07g46990） in FL478 indicated that this protein might make a vital contribution to salt stress tolerance. Although the content of ascorbic acid remained unchanged in FL478, the activity of ascorbic peroxidases （APOXs） was reduced comparably in the both varieties. Transcriptomic data showed that a larger number of peroxidase genes were upregulated in FL478 compared to IR29 and several of which might provide engineering targets to improve rice salt tolerance.

The cavity enhanced absorption technique is applied to N2O detection around 2.86 μm using a continuous-wave color center laser. A high-finesse triangular ring cavity is used in this technology. Transmission through the cavity is obtained by jittering the cavity-length with a piezo on one of the cavity mirrors. A minimum detectable absorption coefficient of 2 × 10-6 cm-1 is achieved with a mirror reflectivity of 99.24%, corresponding to a N2O detection limit of 600 parts per billion.

Leucine-rich repeat （LRR） receptor-like kinases （RLKs）, evolutionarily related LRR receptor-like proteins （RLPs） and receptor-like cytoplasmic kinases （RLCKs） have important roles in plant signaling, and their gene subfamilies are large with a complicated history of gene duplication and loss. In three pairs of closely related lineages, including Arabidopsis thaliana and A. lyrata （Arabidopsis）, Lotus japonicus, and medicago truncatula （Legumes）, Oryza sativa ssp. japonica, and O. sativa ssp. indica （Rice）, we find that LRR RLKs comprise the largest group of these LRR-related subfamilies, while the related RLCKs represent the smal est group. In addition, comparison of orthologs indicates a high frequency of reciprocal gene loss of the LRR RLK/LRR RLP/RLCK subfamilies. Furthermore, pairwise comparisons show that reciprocal gene loss is often associated with lineage-specific duplication（s） in the alternative lineage. Last, analysis of genes in A. thaliana involved in development revealed that most are highly conserved orthologs without species-specific duplication in the two Arabidopsis species and originated from older Arabidopsis-specific or rosid-specific duplications. We discuss＆amp;nbsp;potential pitfal s related to functional prediction for genes that have undergone frequent turnover （duplications, losses, and domain architecture changes）, and conclude that prediction based on phylogenetic relationships wil likely outperform that based on sequence similarity alone.

The dissolution of a carbonatitic chalcopyrite(CuFeS2)was studied in H_(2)SO_(4)−Fe_(2)(SO_(4))_(3)−FeSO_(4)−H_(2)O at varying pH values(0.5−2.5)and 25℃ for 12 *** were conducted with a size fraction of 53−75μ*** Cu recoveries,below 15%,were observed in all pH *** results from the XRD,SEm−EDS,and optical microscopic(Om)analyses of the residues indicated that the dissolution proceeded through the formation of transient ***_(3.39)Fe_(0.61)S_(4) and Cu_(2)S were the intermediate phases at pH 0.5 and 1.0,respectively,whereas Cu_(5)FeS_(4) was the major mineral at pH 1.5 and *** thermodynamic modelling predicted the sequential formation of CuFeS_(2)→Cu_(5)FeS_(4)→Cu_(2)S→*** soluble intermediates were Cu_(5)FeS_(4) and Cu2S,whilst,CuS and Cu_(3.39)Fe_(0.61)S_(4) were the refractory phases,supporting their cumulating behaviour throughout the *** obtained results suggest that the formation of CuS and Cu_(3.39)Fe_(0.61)S_(4) could contribute to the passive film formed during CuFeS_(2) leaching.

As the world grapples with the profound impacts of climate change,water scarcity has become a pressing ***,there is a shortage of in-depth research on the trade-offs between water resource dependence and the economic,ecological,and social needs of arid and semi-arid regions like Lanzhou,*** cultivation in Lanzhou relies heavily on the Yellow River,often overlooking the potential of natural *** we first calibrated a water balance model through artificial precipitation experiments in a Soil and Water Conservation Demonstration Park in *** then developed a multi-objective optimization model to balance the cost-benefit considerations of various plausible measures across economic,ecological,and social dimensions in the searching for solutions that are more adaptable to climate change and local devel-opment *** simulations show that the solutions we designed can effectively manage water-shortage days,significantly reduce Yellow River water extraction,and improve cost-effectiveness,meeting 66%-80%of water needs for flower cultivation in the studied *** findings highlight the potential of rainwater collection and utilization solutions to mitigate water scarcity in arid and semi-arid cities,thereby enriching water resource management.

The deterioration of environmental conditions is the major contributory factor to poor health and quality of life that hinders sustainable development in any *** mining is one of the major industries that contribute to the economy of a country but it also impacts the *** chemical parameters of the coal,overburden,soil and sediments along with the coal mine drainage(CmD)were investigated in order to understand the overall environmental impact from high sulphur coal mining at northeastern coalfield(India).It was found that the total sulphur content of the coal is noticeably high compared to the overburden(OB)and *** volatile matter of the coal is sufficiently high against the high ash content of the soil and *** water samples have a High Electrical Conductivity(EC)and high Total Dissolve Solid(TDS).Lower values of pH,indicate the dissolution of minerals present in the coal as well as other minerals in the mine rejects/*** chemical and nano-mineralogical composition of coal,soil and overburden samples was studied using a High Resolution-Transmission Electron microscopy(HR-TEm),Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy(EDS),Selected-Area Diffraction(SAED),Field Emission-Scanning Electron microscopy(FE-SEm)/EDS,X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR),Raman and Ion-Chromatographic analysis,and mossbauer *** different geochemical analysis it has been found that the mine water sample from Ledo colliery has the lowest pH value of 3.30,Tirap colliery samples have the highest electrical conductivity value of5.40 ms cm^(-1)Both Ledo and Tirap coals have total sulphur contents within the range 3-3.50%.The coal mine water from Tirap colliery(TW-15 B)has high values of mg^(2+)(450 ppm),and Br^-(227.17 ppm).XRD analysis revealed the presence of minerals including quartz and hematite in the *** analysis of coal mine overburden(OB)indicates the presence both of pyrite and marcasite which was also

Objectives To determine whether a large-scale physical activity intervention could affect body composition in primary school students in Beijing, China. methods The study design was one-year cluster randomized controlled trial of physical activity intervention （20 rain of daily exercise in the classroom） with an additional year of follow-up among 4 700 students aged 8-11 years at baseline. Results After the one-year intervention, BmI increased by 0.56 kg/m2 （SD 1.15） in the intervention group and by 0.72 kg/m^2 （SD 1.20） in the control group, with a mean difference of-0.15 kg/m^2 （95% CI： -0.28 to -0.02）. BmI z score decreased by -0.05 （SD 0.44） in the intervention group, but increased by 0.01 （SD 0.46） in the control group, with a mean difference of-0.07 （-0.13 to -0.01）. After another year of follow up, compared to the control group, children in the intervention group had significantly lower BmI （-0.13, -0.25 to -0.01 ）, BmI z score （-0.05, -0.10 to -0.01）, fat mass （-0.27 kg, -0.53 to -0.02） and percent body fat （-0.53, -1.00 to -0.05）. The intervention had a more pronounced effect on weight, height, BmI, BmI z score, and body composition among obese children than among normal weight or overweight children. Compared to the control group, the intervention group had a significantly higher percentage of children who maintained or reduced their BmI z score at year 1 （P-0.008） and year 2 （P=-0.04）. Conclusions These findings suggest that 20 min of daily moderate to vigorous physical activity during the school year is a feasible and effective way to prevent excessive gain of body weight, BmI, and body fatness in primary school students.
